Danny Denzongpa

Tshering Phintso Denzongpa,[1] widely known by his acting name "Danny" Denzongpa (born 25 February 1948) is an Indian actor of Sikkimese ancestry working in Bollywood films.

Denzongpa was born in the state of Sikkim, once a part of Nepal, at that time an independent Bhutia monarchy. He is an ethnic Bhutia and speaks Bhutia as his mother tongue.

He started his career by singing Indian and Nepali songs and acting in Indian and Nepali movies. His nepali song "Kaanchi lai ghumaune Kathmandu Sahara" is still famous among Nepali people after 2 decades. He has acted in numerous Hindi films such as Asoka and 16 December. He has also starred in some international projects, the most famous being Seven Years in Tibet where he acted alongside Hollywood actor Brad Pitt. In 2003, Denzongpa was awarded the Padma Shree, India's fourth highest civilian honour. Denzongpa is noted for his villainous and character roles.

He started dabbling in the brewing industry after 1982, and in 2009, his company Yuksom Breweries, which has three breweries in Sikkim, Orissa and Assam, and sells over three million cases, acquired Rhino Breweries in Assam, to thwart industry leader United Breweries’ (UB) plans to take over the North East market.[2]

Surely sidster,
He is really a gentleman and loves Nepal and Nepalese. I personally met him in( then) Bombay in late 90s. We were a group of 5 people from Nepal visiting Bombay and one of us flowed the idea of visiting Danny Denzongpa. We were completely strangers to him. When we finally reached his residence he was about to leave for a shooting in a nearby location. Despite his busy schedule he arranged us transportation to that location, introduced with shooting officials (fight directors etc) chatted with us during short breaks and offered us snacks. He is a wonderful person.

I have to say that he sang few nepali songs and each and every one of them is such a melody. They reflect pure Nepalipan in words, rhythm, beats, and melody.

Given the status he has in bollywood, he used to take some time out for Nepali movies and songs everynow and then. I wonder why he has not done any new Nepali songs or movies lately.

chana Tarkari....Look at Danny's attitude...he has no need to come to nepal and sing a song in KHAS bhasa...He never humiliated his own language and culture by appreciating the others.

We Nepali love this Dukpa ko choro...and the beauty of language is the same for this dukpa ko chora be it dukpa langauge, nepali language or hindi language.

He never humiliated his own language and culture by appreciating the others.
-> But in Nepal, ethnic communities have gone even beyond that. Many ethnic communities have lost their language and many have stopped passing it to younger generations. Yet, they're discriminated for being from ethnic communities.

Danny is awesome and his love for nepal and nepali seem to be unconditional. But I feel sad that I am not aware of him being appreciated in any functions in Nepal.  People from many ethnic community have contributed to nepali literature.

Please understand that speaking and preserving one's culture doesn't mean humiliating other's culture.
