REASONS TO SUPPORT MONARCHY IN NEPAL

Some people may not like to see a monarchial institution as head of state in Nepal. From my interaction with many such people what I have learnt is it is because of they think Monarchial system to be old and obsolete and has no place in present educated world. But, ironically he or she turns out to be a communist supporter, a proponent of dead ideology. I cannot deny them on their argument like what did monarchy do in development of Nepal? I might not be able to satisfy them with my answer. But, they have always tried to strengthen our nationalism which is indespensable for growth of a nation. But our nation was never stable because of these simian politicians.

However, Nepal's shah dynasty preserved her national independence and soverginity even in the days of imperialism. I want to pin point the reasons why we should stand behind monarchy:

1. Kings, unlike netas,  never agreed in the matter dis-honorable to nation.

2. They never sell/sold our resources at dirt cheap to india

3. They did not pray indian lord to stay in the power, rather they gave in power to people

4. They love (d) nepal more than anything else (no matter it is associated with their interest to stay as king)

5. Never committed a homicide, unlike so called people's leader

6. they got humiliated but never left the motherland..................................

.......................................

And the most importantly, most netaj are good for nothing, have contributed nothing to the nation, and are mendicant of nationalism and self pride.

Jay Desh Jay Naresh !!!

Nalapani............GORKHALI SPIRIT NEVER DIES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ nalapani:
It is the absolute power that was given to the monarchy that has problem. Even if we called it a constitutional monarchy , the rights of the monarch were never challenged. It is this absolute power under the influence of which paras didnt fear to kill anyone. For the development of a nation and society, it is necessary to abolish all the power structures based on birth rights. Abolishment of monarchy has hit Nepal hard and bad. But it is the ultimate way to a prosperous nation. I would like to bring into your notice that its the distribution of power that creates competition. Before 2062 there was no institution to challenge monarchy so we didnt see any power struggle. in the present context, however, this gift of equal right has been misused.

Problem with so called ganatantra is that they ousted king seeing his political face but his cultural importance was completely neglected.  We need king at least in cultural form.

1. Ok Nalapani, I may agree on some of your points, but absolutely not on point no 5. Take out this point before you make many people laugh on this.

2. I honor contribution of Shah Dynasty but  this comes down to Bahadur Shah only. After him none of the Shah rulers did anything for country or people. Whatever they did they did for their own benefit. You can't sell your ancestors name and work all the time. If you want name then you have to earn it. I will not bow to anyone simply because he was born in royal family. He has to prove himself.

3. Ok we need to support monarchy but how they are going to address real issues of Nepal like poverty, illiteracy, malnutrition, unemployment and anarchy? What is their roadmap besides blowing the word nationalsim? Just gathering bunch of poor people, using their hope for own's benefit and just saying 'thik cha thik cha' or firing gun on anyone if he/she doesn't agree with them.

4. Neither I support communist nor I support so called socialist Nepali Congress and I also know Sujata Koirala is one of the most corrupt, unqualified person taking control of nepalese politics right now, but Paras or monarchy is not the alternative for multiparty system.

"Visionary hero of Nepal"?

Is it just because he wears dark sunglasses?

Even our perennial leading man Rajesh Hamal wears shades like those of Paras but is never hailed as "Visionary Hero of Nepal"?
To be honest, I am kinda disappointed here.

Geology Tiger, thanks for your comment. I am not a proponent of absolute monarchy in Nepal but I believe this institution was the best to patronize Nepal. You are right. Not every Shah king was able leader and good for nation. I think there were few notable kings/leaders in Shah dynasty who contributed to the nation. Firstly, King Prithvi N. Shah, the great (every true Nepali knows his contribution), his young son Bahadur Shah who extended Nepal to Setluj in the west and Sikkim to the east, Ran Bahadur Shah, continued annexation of other territorries to Nepal. But, most importantly, in modern history of Nepal, King Mahendra was one who brought Nepal into international forum (helped to get UNO membership to Nepal as an independet nation). Helped eradicate Rana rule from Nepal (his approach into Nepal army helped nepali congress' november revolution), worked in the proliferation of Nepali language and education (before him official language of instruction in education was hindi), initiated industrialization (all of which congress sold dirt cheap at the name of privatization), construcation of east west highway. He was a visionary leader and even today political parties area adopting his policy in differnet name (eg. UML's afno gau afai banau was a copy of Mahendra's model). But many people in Nepal do not evaluate his contribution and brand him as an autocrat. His 2017 BS action was not democratic but it was a demand of time. You can project democratic practice of then comparing to that of now. He well knew, to give a nepal stability, we should need political system differnet from that of china and India.[ FYI, 58 out of 74 NC member of parliament supported king Mahendra's 2017 action and entered Rastriya Panchayat.]

So, what is my point is, Nepal should have political system that incorporates both Monarchy as a state head (as a symbol of national unity and patron of nationality and our cultural heritages) and  democracy (elected PM, but new leaders should born). Nepal cannot hold Republic it's proved.

Nalapani.......GORKHALI SPIRIT NEVER DIES !!!!!!!

Geology ji

It is very easy to hold the whole Shah vansha responsible for Nepal's present condition. The country could have made significant progress if we had a better visionary leaders than what we saw in last few hundred years. However, blank statement like "none of the Shah rulers did anything for country or people" is utterly wrong.

I don't support absolute monarchy as it gives too much power to one single person without proper checks and balances. However, Shah rulers have faired out much better than the alternatives we have seen recently. To understand what they have done you have to familiarize yourself with the history of pressure from India and reaction by our kings. I am not a fan of Mahendra, but Birendra always cared for his people. Are you familiar with the making of the convention hall? Many lures that India and at times CHina had thrown to the kings were rejected as Nepal's gain was advantageous to the kings.

I am not saying lets bring back monarchy, but let's also not disrespect our history. We can move forward without an assault on our past.

Let me ask one question. The following are three different "clans" that have taken the leadership of Nepal. Who do you think did the least damage to Nepal:

1. Rana

2. Shahs

3. Present leaders (all are same).

5. never committed homicide?? ....you need to go back and read Nepali history....up to the point during  panchyat kaal when mandaley gang were running around and finishing off people who were working against the regime.

i do not agree to the current nepali political leaders and the standards they are governing however that doesn't mean i blindly agree to any monarchy and the history of monarchy being the most flourishing time in Nepali history.

107 years of ruling from rana dynasty
240 years for ruling from the shah dynasty

I don't think our country was doing any better with these people in power. We couldn't even raise our voice against them.

18 years of ruling of the f**ked up corrupted netas, which is, by the way, the worst outcome of democracy and here we are, in the US driving shiny cars.

All those years only those who were polishing the rana's and shah's boot could only come here. Now even people from the villages come to the US and prove themselves.

dissident, the famous 240 years comprises of the era between 1825 BS (victory of Kathmandu by P N Saha) and 2065 BS. The rana rules of 104 yrs also falls within this from 1903 to 2007. So if you exclude 104 years from 240 what is left? 136 years. From 1825 to 1873 (Sugauli treaty) almost all time during this epoch of 48 years spent on some interanal and some exteranal war or in other words in unification of country. After the sugauli treaty nation fell into Rana's grip.  And after Ranas left, from 2007 to 2017 nation was busy in trying to set up some kind of system and you can call this period of time a democratic time where PM was eexecutive. The only period between 2017 and 2046, the monarchy in nepals used absolute power. But, in fact, 30 years of panchayat systme, only king Mahendra could use with less intervention from the political parties. It is the very era Nepal introduced herself into new era. King Mahendra built up the foundation of the nation. Afte his death, from 2028 King Birnedra reinged as as absolute ruler untill 2046 but during this period he had to face with many interventions by congress in the name of Satyagraha, Okhaldhunga revolt etc. Anyway, you can count this period too. After 2046, kings did not rule Nepal, they were just the head of the state, PM from political parties were the executuives. Meantime, about one and half years Gyanendra tried ot rule as his father. After him we know everything very well. But, in the history of Nepal the period after 2062 (era of so called republic) is the most miserabale for Nepalis people from every aspect. In all, Shah Kings ruled almost 32 years in Nepal and duing this period they created foundation for us.

So, man dont just recite the words of political leaders who blame 240 years for Nepal's servile condition. They are fraud. But the reality about them is they couldnot  have done this amount of work even in 960 years.

"They are fraud?" you must be kidding me! who sent the frauds to their positions, dude? We couldn't choose the king (We would still be happy with Paras as
a King, sorry if he is your ideal ruler.)

But the beauty about democracy is.. you can choose your own LEADERS!

But unfortunately we can't coz we are illiterate, backstabbing, ignorant people.

Bringing the monarchy back will be the most stupid thing we can do. We should change ourselves, change the
people, there is no other system that works well than democracy.

By the way, who let the Rana's rule the country? Did the people chose Ranas or the Shahs had to make them powerful to hide their weaknesses?

I like to be JANATA of my country rather than being PRAJA of some RAJA.

I did not choose them, I have never voted them. It's been customary to cast all blame to kings. More you blame, more you become revolutionary, educated and modern. So you think kings are the reason people are not electing good leaders..............LOL gimme a break. whom did you vote in Nepal ? UML or NC? I can bet you never analyzed the candidae before you casted your vote, you just voted candidate of your party no matter he is Sujata or Shanker Pokhrel (guy who used flower pot to hide his bribed money) or Hisila Yami (one of queen of corruption) or even Babban Singh. Look your face in the mirror befor blaming others. Keep yourself out of ambivalence man !!!!!
