One of my friends is on H1B visa since January 2005. His H1B started from September 2004 however, but since he was doing Internship with another company, he started his job this year. He is going to Nepal in September for a month and he needs to get a visa. Can you tell me what documents he should take and what kinds of questions the counsel might throw at him? I have heard that people were asked why didn't they come back to Nepal after finishing their education? Any other questions that any of you come across that might be helpful? Thanks for your reply.

I had to get a visa under H1B, twice.I still remember the first time. It was the first visa to the USA. (as my visa had been backed by a US company and had been approved it was very unlikely it would have been denied). They took my company's letter, H1B confirmation notice, and every thing I had as eveidence of my education. I was asked why I chose to study in Moscow (USSR). The lady tried to be tough to me, but back then if I had impressed the lady probably it was because of my fluent English She asked me how many lanuguages I could speak, I said 6, fluently, and she almost jumped off her chair. They made me wait 5-6 hours inside the consulate, to the point, I was the only interviewee left there. By the time (2:00pm) I came out of the embassy with the notice to pick up the visa and passport in the evening (4:30pm) I had not eaten anything from 4 in the morning.

The 2nd time, I took a new company's H1B approval notice and the gentleman asked me where else I had been after returning from the USA to Nepal for a visit (probably curious if I was a spy).

I did not have to go through any hassle.

Thank you for your reply. My friend is wondering about the Questions he might be asked from the conselor when he goes to apply for the visa. Will the questions be more related to the job, the person itself, or the company? Just few general questions....

I would suggest to take W2 from last year. If it is his/her first H1B, then he/she also need to take school transcripts.

First time they asked me why I didn't study UNIX while in college. With a surprise look, I asked him what is UNIX and he didn't bother to ask more Qs :=)

And the last time the girl was wondering how far is my place from Santa Monica, CA. She was curious to know how far away I lived from her sister's place.

Expect the unexpected............

I had a letter from my boss to the counsellor on how important I was to the work force and requesting to grant visa.

I had no hassle...no interviews ...nothing.

Make sure you attach the approval of your petition.
