You can transfer via Thamel remit even though they are closed. Give your name and number in their site and they will walk you through the procedure. I did mine and it went smoothly.

Even your own bank could do money transfer. I have sent upto $15000 at one time for a fee of $40 but that was like 5-6 years back.

i tried to send through bofa. the conversion rate is so low that the difference would have been 200 dollars. so i cancelled the transfer.
