it might be because its time for me to get married like some of my friends did. sometimes we discuss about marriage. most of my friends think like we have to go back to get married and come back again. I have also seen similar statements in sajha.com as well sometime back. i was thinking abut it and was curious about this thing: most of the time this type of discussion is started by a guy not a girl. do only nepali guy( i dont mean all here) who lives abroad go back to nepal to get married? how about nepali girls (not all)? do they also go back to nepal to get married and come with spouse or they generally dont go back to nepal for marriage purpose?

Loote and Rudre,
Why do you think the girl(s) you described will want a guy like you.

Again, Khaobadi takes the gold medal in this one as well. I like the idea of getting married twice. Mine didnt work out the first time as well. Come to think of it, I am fine the way I am.

Responding to the topic, I was told there is a gender ratio of 9 to 1 for Nepalis in the US. For every one Nepali girl, there are 9 Nepali boys. Since the girls have so vast a number to choose from, why go all the way to Nepal to find a spouse? One could just find one here. Whereas for guys, for all those who do not find girls here will have to go back to Nepal, find a girl, bring her here and then go through all the process of educating and/or job hunting. As far as I know Nepalis from both the gender give their first preference to the Nepalis living here just so they won't have to educate, job hunt, drive and stuffs for their spouse. Does this make sense? Good luck to people whever they find and/or are looking for their spouse.

I am not sure how meera come up with ratio of 9:1.  well, girls might have even higher numbers of guys to choose from if they wish to go back home, dont you think so?  while i believe ratio is not 1:1, i seriously doubt the ratio is that big.  regarding educate, drive and job hunt issue, i guess driving takes less than a week, and everyone has to go through same job hunting process.  if someone has bachelors degree from Nepal and has capacity to pursue masters here, it wont take much time to catch up with others here.  well, doing undergrad here does not guaranteed jobs.

I have no data to support my ratio of 9:1, heard it from someone that's all. I believe the gap is that way just because parents are more willing to send sons here more than daughter. Everywhere I look, if there is a choice between kids, parents are more willing to send sons abroad, spend the lakh or so money in their college educations. "Choris" or daughters are sent usually either after they are married, have a male relative or a brother in the US or have no sons in the family. Not a whole lot of family send their daughters. Look around you! At any Nepali parties/ gatherings there are more Nepali boys than Nepali girls.

Second argument, IF they go back to Nepal girls have even higher number of boys to choose from, the keyword is "IF" why would they want to go back when they can find a Ram, Shyam or Hari right here. If you bring a spouse from Nepal irrespective of the gender, they still have to go through the whole "education, job hunt and driving process" while the one here is likely to have all 3 or in the process of getting all 3. Also, who is more likely to get a job? One who has a degree from Nepal or a degree from here? You tell me.

I am dead bored and have all the time on my hands as you can see from me being on sajha all day, that's my only defense.
