Nepal is not Hindu country from now on which is excellent. We can cut and eat cow in Nepal. I am thinking of opening a cow-butcher shop near Pashpati and Dachin kali.

I dont see any country with established democray having a separate laws for people of each individual religion.

Does United States or Canada or Britain or France etc have different laws for people of different religions . Absolutely not.

Only the exceptions I see are examples like people of some religion are exempt from having their pics on their driver's license (which happens only in very extraordinary cases).

It all boils down to individual rights and wants (preferences).

I would NOT care if somebody kills cow or not. If cows make great BBQ well why not ? I wont care about symbolism. I care about BBQ (at an amazing price).

In a country where the price of human life is cheaper than the price of a dead street dog why are some people so eager to protect cows from being killed. what a crappy argument !!

One thing though that bothers me: if you kill a dog in America, you go to jail. It's against the law. Nepal has its own culture, religion, etc, so saying that they kill cows in America but we don't is a bit disingenuous, granted that if you kill a dog in America to fill up your tummy, they will throw you in jail in a heartbeat. Let's think about this for a second.
Having said that, I still feel that killing cows doesn't bother me. Kill them, but not in my back yard!

I dont think ppl will start killing cows in Nepal. I agree with knt. The person who started this stupid thread can go and start killing the monkeys and parewas in Pashupati and Swayambhu!!
Even if Nepal is a secular country it does not mean that you can go around killing cows. I guess there is still a law that prohibits killing of cows....and monkeys.

Question is not the Cow ???i don't care whether people eat cow or not.

Just Think calmly.Unfortunately ,we do not have country of educated
people like U.When this decision can bring so much
discussion in Sajah among Liberal hindus. what will it
invite 2 years down the road.

Don't be supprised to hear headlines like:" 10 people died
when religious riot errupted between Hindu and muslim when a muslim man tried to butcher cow in Pashupati area".similar incidents have
happened.I think that was too hasty decision.leaders will regret it (if they have brain)
Lets think pro and cons of the decisions It was unnecessary at this time.

Was hindu tag stoping Nepali muslim from opening madarsa and Christians
from opening Church???I wonder why some buddist are against hindu so much.
We have always coexisted in harmony and i myself believe in buddha.

Have you guys ever wondered why nepalese are so liberal hindus???Because we never had to go what
jews had to go thru. we always had our land.I donot agree joining hindu party but i certainly agree
hindus would have had home after all this religion in slowly dieing beacuse of liberals like us.
I do not believe any religion is better than another however It would be nice to protect our identity.

When a small fraction of nepals population in sajha can be divided in this issue .Think of nepal in bigger picture.
Anyways well it would have be nice if they have not opened this issue than bringing one more issue. It was an unexpected
decision which will bring problem whether u agree with me or not.when 85% is hindu what is problem ???With increasing muslim population and hatred for india(isi) and hindu .It would not be nice for nepalese( not only hindu).Other minor religion will suffer.

Well what do we liberal nepalese hindu care ,right brothers???Anyways we won't be going to riots and die!!!!

Vhotee , seperation of church(temple) and state has always been there in Nepal.Just for u r info there was no law that was unfair to other religions!!!!Except eating cow and that madeceveryone so uncomfortable..hahahaah .If that u were pointing out.
all religions had right to practice their religion.
all religion got their holidays off.
No descrimination just solely in basis of religion on job .
I dare any other religion enter mecca ! if u think other religion were not permitted to enter temples.
Man u r liberal so am i . We all hindus are liberal .Espeacially nepali

Do you mean you can go down the road of some Islamic states(of which most of them are notoriously undemoctratic) and just like them declare Nepal a 'Hindu state' (again) ?

Why did the founders of countries like the United States, Canada etc did not declare their nation a 'Christian state'. They could have easily done it, after all the vast majority belonged to Christian faith and even today the large majority of the population have some Christian background even if many of them dont necessarily follow Christian beliefs in "hardcore" manner. How many percentage of the population in the US or Canada follow Judaism or Islam or Buddhism or Hinduism or other religions ?

It the matter of fairness and one of the fundamental principles of democracy is fairness.

By the this matter has to discussed right now. It should have been discussed a long time ago and the politicians of major political parties after 1990 Jana Andolan did not care to put this debate to the mass. This issue was swept under the rug as if the issue never existed.

Ironically the Maoists (who are always seen as some undemocratic forces) are the ones who vigorously made 'secular state' one of their demands when they started the 'People's War' in 1996. More fascanating fact is that the worlds democratic countries
enshrine 'secular state' in their constitution. Look at the United States or India and so forth.

How crap it is tell people that making Nepal a secular state will result in deaths of 10 or 20 people in religious riots. Nepal already has lost over 13000 fought over many socio-political issues (like secualr state) raised by the Maoists which should have been resolved a long time ago.

Finally now when there is some progress in resolving an age old socio-political issues (like secular state) you call that a product of minds of uneducated craps.

dude, you better take a crash course on 'Fundamental Principles of Democracy 101'
and by the way also take some notes on 'Fundamental Principles of Just Society 101'.

FYI Khaobadi,
I don't need to take any crash courses. I know.U didn't read my other post in this thread. when u decide something other issues tags along with it.Drastic changes brings unpredictable results. So ,when u decide what u decide .u have to take account of other variables too.And giving this would bring peace to Nepal and maosit would drop this war. i am even ready for declaring nepal islamic state if that was one of there demand.Got it! and please don't think maoist putting this demand beacause they truly believe in this. They are like lizards they will change their instances for and to break nepalese in any factor or issues that they can exploit . so u need to take crash course in "maoist true colors"

"I wonder why some buddist are against hindu so much"
We do not hate you, infact we've greatest respect and have lived in peace with you all throughtout the time. But this is not just about Hindu, Buddhist if you're so ignorant. It's about the future, so it doesn't mix religion and politics and that our society become equal and just to everybody not just instatus quo, but be represented as equal to.

Before telling me if the Maoist truely believe in what they demanded 10 years ago , tell me do you really believe in principles of democracy ?

Even if the Maoist have demanded a secular or not I've always demanded for a secular state and my wishes are fulfilled this time. People who dont belive in equality, fairness and just society which are fundamental pillars of democracy, will certainly ask for prefencial treatment.

By the way at least they resolved the issue this time (finally). Now even the Maoist would not be able to raise the argument again.

excellent thread.
the laws of nepal can be amended regarding butchering of cows. the 'Chaupaya ko mahal' or 'Of animals' chapter in the Civil Code 1963 has the provision of life sentencing against cow-slaughter along with other femal animals. I am sure some lawyer in nepal is goiung to file a writ petition in the supreme court demanding immediate nullification of the aforesaid legal prohibition, on grounds of 'secular state' theory and the spirit of the new proclamation.

If I were in nepal and if any muslim or any client were to ever approach me with this subject matter, i would surely have filed this case and I guarantee you all, I would have won this case too.

There is anothert way to file the case, i.e. public interest litigation. When a rationale number of people are affected by any law, and if a lawyer or any citizen finds such law and legal provision discriminatory, he/she can file this writ petition in the supreme court under article 88(1) and 88(2) of the constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal.

WAIT !!!!!

Constitution of the KINGDOM of Nepal ?????????

Lets erase 'KINGDOM' from the constitution as well.

Khaobadi and Vottee
Since i do have democratic principles i have to admit the things u are saying are right. But i am pointing out beyond principles when there will be blood in the steets of nepal.i guess there is already blood so what better can u expect .And u guys have not analyzed that part. We will all be here and we will see .Though no matter how democratic principle u teach people from south asia there is very long violent and hard path ahead.i wish everybody in the world would have same democratic beliefs like us But world doesn't work that way!
