Rewire,

those were some informative facts........ It's not tht I didn't know anything abt it but then one of my fren was insisting tht lumbini used to fall in India as the N. Advani was stating in his interview. But i never new abt it and there isn't any evidence of tht in any websites.

Anwz, thnk u for ur information. Tht was great....And as u say, all tht matters is Lumbini is present day Nepal. We can safely and proudly say tht G. buddha was born in Nepal............

watch this video to see what i have to say about the

CC2C - Buddha Nepal/India issue

Nepalese people should unite for greater issues.
such as the open border between India and Nepal which has led to encroachment of the Kalapani area and Susta

Mr. Rewire,
I am not a student of history but would like to disagree with on the statement that you have written Yes, we were part of modern day India during the Maurya dynasty.

As far as I know Nepal as a country was established by the Late King Prithvi Narayan Shah about 250 yrs ago. Even before that I can not remember a single name of Indian ruler ruling in Nepal. I have heard about baise and chaubise rajya or things like that.
Terai was not suitable for residence because of the Very dense forest and Malaria. Only people surviving there were tharu people and I can't believe that they were ruled by Indian Maurya dynasty Kings.

If I recall correctly, there was not even a single country called India before the British came there. British established The East India Company by combining countless small kingdoms within India. U can still find royal people in India who call themselves Raajput. So what India u r talking about that ruled Nepal???? Present day India were ruled by British, Goa and Southern states were governed by Portugese etc...

I don't know how long is the history of modern day India but it only started after the British left. And the places like Darjeeling, Sikkim, Kumau, Gadhawaal used to be Nepalese Territory where Nepal used to rule and Nepal lost to the then British in East India Company so after British left may be We should have got those lands back because that was not won by India it was the deal with British ruling over that part of the sub-continent.

Anyway this is how I feel. I may be wrong but upto now I stand by my this and hope I am right.
Have fun and Take care  :)

Namaskar,
Your time period of 250 years is way way way later. We're talking about 2500 years ago, at the time of Buddha.
You disagree on"Yes, we were part of modern day India during the Maurya dynasty"
Exactly....this is where we get f@@ked up.. Nepal has no written history to claim that we were a unified nation then, nor do we have any historical figure to back it up. The western history tells that the Ashoka claimed almost all land in the modern Indian continent, even drove the army of Alexander away fro the Hindu Kush. What are the chances that we not nabbed by Asoka. You give me a proof, and I'll beleive. Many changes occurred after Ashoka's period and his downfall. The fact India should have been a Buddhist county had Ashoka been there for a longer time or his newer generations were strong enough. I think Chanakye turned it into Hindu right after Asoka died. The unified Ashoka nation fell into pieces again into smaller kingdoms. So back to small kingdoms...My assumption is somewhere the line, we slipped off from them and became a distant land. Your time period of 2500-250=2250 years before Prithivi Narayan. That is one hell of long time, anything could have happened. If I'm not wrong, our Lichivi period (traces of it) starts around 1st century. If  that is the earliest history we have, we're still missing some puzzle of 500 years, from the birth of Buddha to Lichivi, did anybody that existed around that time in Nepal fought against the Mauryans? So far I remember, there is no evidence of any Lichivi king who unified or fought with any bigger opponent at that time, we simply have temples and monuments. Burden lies on us to prove that we were always independent. Independent right till our written history starts, what about before that? Simply we did NOT have history does not mean other civilization didn't exist.
Anybody with ancient Nepali history can shed some light on this?
I'm not a history major, simply learning to empower myself, still learning........

Rewire

      New Flash for you Bro,

Chanakya was before Ashoka.. Chanakya was ChandraGutpa's Teacher, not only
that, Chanakya was the person who made Chandragupta the King of
PatilPutra(Patna) which was ruled by Nanda Dynasty (their kingdom was called Nanda Empire) and yes Nepal was there
during that time and played a vital role in the process of unification started
by Chankya.

Also, for your information, it wasn't Ashoka who fought with Macedonian King
the Mighty Alexander but it was ChandraGupta who went to war under the
leadership of Chanakya...(Chandragupta was a son of a shepard not from a Royal family, Chanakya made him the King of Nanda Empire)

And who told you it was only Greeks & Roman's who were advanced and civilized
than the people of the Indian subcontinent, just cause all the history of the
subcontinent was destroyed first by the invading Muslims than later the European’s..
Dude do you know what Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa are???

You need to get your facts straight.. Nepal
was never under any Indian Ruler, and no Ashoka never conquered whole of present day India, once he
became a fan of Buddha, hence his conquest to rule all of the present day
Indian Subcontinent Stopped.

Are you trying to Tell me the Epic Mahabharata and Ramayana is not true ( I
know events were exaggerated) in that case what Homer wrote is wrong too.. If
there was battle of Troy
than there was battle of Mahabharata..

Have you try to analyze anything, look at the culture of eastern Asian’s like
Burma, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, They were all Hindu Kingdom's.. All those
kings and kingdoms took participation in that Great War.

If you look at the drawings, wall paintings, the drama's they do in Thailand
and other countries around it, you will see they are recreating Ramayana, where
they have ram, sita, laxman, hanuman etc.

So for you to say there was No Nepal is wrong my brother, Nepal was there but not present day Nepal..
The valley was called Nepal
and it was the most powerful kingdom in the Himalaya's..

I can go on and on but you got the point..(just trying to educate in history, not trying to show off or anyting)

Chor

OK, you might have better knowledge of history around that area. But answer me, when did our Nepali written history start, Lichibi, Kirates etc. I thought they start from 1st century...I think it is wrong...they start around 6-7 the century...way late.If I'm wrong, let me know. You did not fill in the blank....who were the rulers of Nepal or if there were many parts of Nepal, who were they? I've got more question than answer. If we cannot answer, then of course, the Indians are going to say it was part of India.

"Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa are"....bro, we can go on and go...everybody thinks they were better than the other...I've read a bit about them.......nothing impressive in term of achievement (for those who want to read about it http://books.google.com/books?id=ibLUu6RlvqwC&printsec=frontcover&dq=india+history+keay#PPP1,M1) It is the oldest civilization discoverd around the Indian subcontient.

Have you heard about Santorini aka Atlantis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santorini ,Stonehence, and other neolithic civilization of Western Europe. The civilization of Santorini had discoverd concepts, ideas and science that the Greek could not even dream, but they did it 1500 year before the Greek. They had toilet with running water with ventilation on the 2nd floor. No other civilization had 2nd floor concept at those period. Forget about toilet. You can still take a tour of thoes houses if you visit that Island. Check out the pictures in the mean time. I'd like to take a trip or see the relics of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa. Any recommendations?Every continent is escavating older and older civilization every year. No need to sweat over that. People do not worship Greek legends like Homer, Achilles nor Zeus like we do, they are old myth, even Bible claims they are just story. You're not going to say Ravan made the first aeroplane, are you?

I think you're misreading me, I'm on your side too...I hate the Indian claim. I am putting those historical facts on the table (right or wrong) so we can share the info with fellow Nepal and beaware of the facts, and not Bollywood films.

Bro, if you're so impressive about history...enlighten me with our history during the time of Buddha. Who, what and where were the people of Nepal doing during those periods. I'm not looking for "Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa" or any other Indian history. I'll prefer history around the pressent day Nepal but before BC. I've some blanks that needs to be filled. I'll truly appreciate that.

I am not surprised at all. Back in 1996 when i was doing my schooling in india, there were so many of my buddies who thought nepal is part of india. I dont know for some reason they thought nepal is another state like bengal, sikkim and all. I had to educated them, but funny part was they knew Bhutan was seperate country.
