Guys I wish we could have a genuine positive and progressive discussion.

We all see us complaining about dire situation in Nepal. We complain about Nepal Bandhs, corrupt leaders and ever stagnant development of our country. We see people saying so easily..IF U R SO PISSED THEN WHY DON'T U URSELF GO TO NEPAL?.

This time it's just one issue..CORRUPTION.

Corruption is in our society, a well respected vice. In Nepal people gain respect by their bank balance and power, by the number of storeys they have added to their building, no one cares how the money has been earned. One who is honest is doomed. One way to justify stealing is if someone else steals then why not me?? As the only thing u could ever learn from others is just that. In most of the cases ur relatives complain..TAPAIN THE KASTO KAAM NALAAGNE..FALANO LE YETI KAMAYO? do u even know how?

The politicians don't come from Mars. They are born and raised in our society. If our society is like this then how the hell can we expect them to be honest? how can we expect them to fight for issues and not their bank balance? Coz WE R LIKE THAT. AGREE OR NOT, that's the bitter truth. We encourage people to earn more by any means. Then for that we have to give concessions to bad  guys. A job in BHANSAAR is high profile job..coz lot of # 2 money u know? and then we expect the politicians TO BE HONEST? GIVE ME A BREAK. Even here in Saajha, I see threads like chornu ramro ki naramro? well it's easily debatable topic whether stealing is good just bcoz our boss steals. What a shame.

Why our country can't produce one honest leader? We  don't need to go too far. In India u have Bajpayee or Manmohan Singh or Abdul Kalaam Azaad. Now don't say I am Indian agent.GET A LIFE IF ANYONE THINKS SO.  I am talking about corruption here. None of those people can be called corrupt by even their strongest critics. Doesn't mean India doesn't have corrupt people but at least their culture has produced heroes like Gandhi.

Pakistam has Imran Khan. A world cup winning extremely charismatic captain who chose to stay in the country to fight for democracy. Noone can say he is corrupt.

Why can't we produce one leader , JUST ONE who is not corrupt. Reason is our society..it promotes and glorifies corruption.

CAN'T WE HAVE A SOCIETY WHERE WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN IT'S WRONG TO STEAL. IT'S WRONG TO EARN MONEY BY COMPROMISING ON YOUR ETHICS. IT'S WRONG TO BE DISHONEST. AND ITS UNPATRIOTIC AND UNHUMAN TO BE CORRUPT.

Let's have an honest discussion here. I pose this issue as a challenge to all u genuine patriotic Nepalese. RISE OVER THE PETTY ISSUES LIKE ...CAN U EVEN NAME IT ?..AND TALK ABOUT PRODUCING A BETTER SOCIETY SO THAT THEN WE CAN HAVE GOOD LEADERS WHO COULD FIGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY'S BETTER FUTURE AND OUR AND OUR CHILDREN'S.

zigkbcnp,

what do u mean by dream on guys?? what do u mean by fool Nepalese??

Why r u so negative?? for how long will u stand, sit, and eat on other's help. When would u think of Nepal being as good as others.

If it's a dream, so be it. Your negativity will IN NO WAY deter me and in no way will decelerate me. You have tyo have a dream to fulfil it. You have to have a vision.Things look increasingly impossible everytime great things have been achieved over the world. Examples- END OF APARTHEID IN SOUTH AFRICA, END OF SLAVERY AND JIM CROW IN USA, ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ONLY CANCER HOSPITAL IN PAKISTAN, END OF BRITISH OCCUPATION IN INDIA,..ALL THOSE THINGS LOOKED IMPOSSIBLE AND LIKE A DREAM.

Then their society produced Mandela, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and Imran Khan. They rose to the occasion and inspired a whole generation. Why can't we brother?? why can't we??Think positive brother. I m not arguing with u. I respect ur thoughts..but if u can't support us plz do us a huge favour..don't discourage us.

Well, it seems probably I am at the wrong position or this forum is simply too good for me.

IN NO WAY that means that I m giving up. No way. I might have to find a different channel.

I was hopeful with sajha coz most of our freiends are abroad, and they are much more capable than others in Nepal. We could have discussed ways out, some great idea might well have come up, but it was not to be. That's totally okay and understandable.

I am not asking anyone to be JOGI or SADHUBABA. I was just hoping that all of us , specially YOUTH could channellize their energy in a positive direction so that we could have made some realistic difference in Nepal.

It was fun at sajha. Back to rock n roll guys.

good bye friends. have fun.

parbhat,

i think we started with a similar issue. i said we need strong education as a base for new Nepal and u started with a chronic problem = corruption.

see, i told u if ur thread is NOT titled as 'SEXY LADY...', 'HOT & VERY HORNY' shajhagoers will give a blind eye.

while i vouch for solid education to rebuild Nepal, what do u think is the best for Nepal?

Like u, I came to sajha to get a feel of thoughts, views and opinions of Nepalese residing in US. I found only a few Nepalese harbor similar feeling like me. Good luck to the rest.

I felt I did gain some insights of Nepalese thoughts plus I also felt like I wasted my time.

However, I had/am/will contiue to work for Nepal using the resources of US.

Enjoy.

Unicornis and desert rain, u guys are awesome. Thanks for the support and yeah, we share similar views. Thanks a lot guys.

Well, looks like if we can find some more unicornis and desert rain in sajha, it will be worth logging in here.

Before issues..I think we both agree that being in US is a major advantage. See what NRI's have done for India. Agreed, investment environment is not ideal, but let's work on it, it can be worked. We can do so much from US, in addition to living a much better life ( at least financial life).

Yes, I too think strong education is very important to rebuild Nepal. But I want to see if the mindset behind acquiring education can be changed. The most common mindset is we study to earn money. paisa kamauna po padheko ta....am i correct??? We have spent so much in our MBBS or Law or Engineering degree that we have to get it back. I believe that's only partially true. What do u and other friends think. Let me know.

The values that needs to be stilled in new generation is that in addition to giving u a possibly better financial future, education makes u responsible, that u r educated and Mr. X in Karnali is not makes u  in noway superior. It's ur previlege NOT RIGHT I REPEAT PREVILEGE BUT NOT RIGHT to have attained education and the onus is on you to help others have better future. That u have a Master's degree and Rame is SLC fail MUST MAKE U THINK WHAT PROMPTED HIM NOT TO COMPLETE HIS SCHOOL: financial/ social problem or simply lack of awareness. or else u r a deuschebag for sure even u have doctorate degree.

Yes, education IS THE MOST IMPORTANT BUILDING BLOCK BUT ONLY IF IT TEACHES THOSE EDUCATED PEOPLE TO SERVE OTHERS AND THE COUNTRY BY BEING HUMBLE, BY BEARING RESPONSIBILITY TOWARDS THE SOCIETY AND THE COUNTRY..AND NOT JUST BY EARNING MONEY.

It is extremely important to have moral education in Nepal from Class 1 to at least +2, or dare I say in even Bachelor's course.

It's extremely important to follow heroes EVEN IF THEY R NOT FROM NEPAL.

Lets look at India's emergence these days. Its because they have now a huge talented pool of educated people who can compete everywhere. They r investing a lot in education. the IITs, RECs are producing some of the finest professionals. But I am strangely surprised that almost any Indian who is highly educated wants to do something for the country. Not like us where being patriotic is synonymous with  crazy things that I don't wanna mention. We r definitely lot better than that.

Certainly..strong education coupled with good ethics and moral education is extremely important to rebuild our country.

LET'S TALK FRIENDS AS HOW CAN WE ACHIEVE THIS. I AM SERIOUSLY CHALLENGING ALL OF U, IF U THINK U LOVE UR COUNTRY, STOP BEING ENGAGED IN FRUITLESS ISSUES AND LETS DISCUSS HOW CAN WE IMPROVE EDUCATION SYSTEM IN NEPAL.

WE CAN DO SOMETHING FOR JUST ONE REASON..WE R IN AMERICA. GOT IT ????

Pravat,

You've raised some wonderful, or pressing issues. however you havent talked much about actions.

Be serious buddy.

I am doing my masters in engineering here for free of cost. I have never been in politics before, however after having followed this year's election campain and the change movement that our country underwent, I feel like i wanna go to law/political science school eg. princeton university and then go to nepal. I may start that from 2009 onwards, and I will also definitely need support from folks like you.

How does that sound?

I want to address this issue using spiritual approach. We can build new Nepal or even new world without being together or having any attachment with each other. WATCH is important.
It refers to W- words
                 A- action
                 T- thought
                C- character
                H-  heart
It sounds easy for every human being to be engrossed with these attributes but what is very important is all the components of WATCH has to be pure, then a society, country and eventually a world will rise.
Also we talk about service, devotion, love (to the country) all these services, devotions and love has to be selfless then a country will rise. And at last there should not be any dualism for example doing social service to show the god or the boss, it has to come from inside.

variyaa,

My understanding is let's put the issues one at a time on the table. Then let's discuss as what action should be taken. Nothing that is unilateral is gonna work. The action has to be in consensus that seems sensible.

What do U suggest to improve education system in Nepal ? also the moral education. Can u spread this issue to people around u? That's how we can bring about the change variyaa. Don't u agree?

Let's listen to all and then come to a conclusion .

One thing I know..no violence, no abuse, and no blame game.

prabhat,

I did my preschooling in India. India's education is far better than Nepal. They say Nepal is at least 50 yrs behind India and more than 500 yrs behind US.

Nepal's Education Level = I still see Nepali graduates strugggle in TOEFL and GRE and other standard exams. I have plenty of Indian friends from Banglore, Mumbai and Delhi and friends who went to Manipal, Darj etc. Their fluency and vocab is strong unlike most Nepalese. Plus 70% of India's young generation speaks and writes english while we have a staggering figure of 48.6%.

Nepal saw increased numbers of private/english meduim schools but education level remains the same. Boarding schools hire people educated in Darj just to lure students as parents think their kids will learn english in no time. But this is wrong again. Not every Darj educated has good english, depends on which school he/she attended.

Any thoughts!

One of my closest friends here is from mumbai, another from delhi, and another from karachi. I scored way higher than all of them in toefl and gre both. They feel ashamed while talking with me as I never talk with them in hindi.

uni, i dont agree with you on that.

Hello guies,

I am too happy to see such a good discussion in sajha. Pravat’s intiation supported by other people’s thinking and the WATCH concept are really praiseworthy. Yeah, we people residing in US and outside Nepal can contribute to our country to help fight with corruption and other issues.

I am wid you guies. LETS STAND TALL AND DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR THE BETTER NEPAL from today.

Great!! I appreciate all of u Guys.Ok let's first wash our face and look at the mirror ,If u really can stand in this line lifelong I am proud of u and discussing with u otherwise go to hell. I mean when I was too young  I loved my country morethen myself but as i saw Head of my government is not in NEpal,of course not in Nepal and I found noone who really cares of Nepal then I am hibernating in my thoughts and sometime think when I get my PhD I will go back and open volunteer's organization gather at least 20,000 youths and mobilise them to sacrifice their life together with me for my nation but I barely hope to find 2-3 ppl so I am though not passimistic not much optiomistic too.

If we cannot do good let's think good I really appreciate Prabhat you raised the issue that is moving aroung my head from a long time.Great job!!

variyya,

now, now. this is the biggest problem of nepalese. okay tell me, u are talking of few handful nepalese. tell me of 48.6% literate nepalese how much in % have strong english background? 5-10-15?

one thing, India was ruled by British for a long time and this is one reason why India's english is so much better (I hate their accent though!)

plus I do not believe in GRE scores. Look at chinese. they are the highest scorers in GRE etc but listen to their colliquel (it sucks). so it is long hours of preparation that one puts during standard exams plus it depends on one's catching power.

trust me, as with other sectors, Nepal needs a real change in education sector too.
