Guys I wish we could have a genuine positive and progressive discussion.

We all see us complaining about dire situation in Nepal. We complain about Nepal Bandhs, corrupt leaders and ever stagnant development of our country. We see people saying so easily..IF U R SO PISSED THEN WHY DON'T U URSELF GO TO NEPAL?.

This time it's just one issue..CORRUPTION.

Corruption is in our society, a well respected vice. In Nepal people gain respect by their bank balance and power, by the number of storeys they have added to their building, no one cares how the money has been earned. One who is honest is doomed. One way to justify stealing is if someone else steals then why not me?? As the only thing u could ever learn from others is just that. In most of the cases ur relatives complain..TAPAIN THE KASTO KAAM NALAAGNE..FALANO LE YETI KAMAYO? do u even know how?

The politicians don't come from Mars. They are born and raised in our society. If our society is like this then how the hell can we expect them to be honest? how can we expect them to fight for issues and not their bank balance? Coz WE R LIKE THAT. AGREE OR NOT, that's the bitter truth. We encourage people to earn more by any means. Then for that we have to give concessions to bad  guys. A job in BHANSAAR is high profile job..coz lot of # 2 money u know? and then we expect the politicians TO BE HONEST? GIVE ME A BREAK. Even here in Saajha, I see threads like chornu ramro ki naramro? well it's easily debatable topic whether stealing is good just bcoz our boss steals. What a shame.

Why our country can't produce one honest leader? We  don't need to go too far. In India u have Bajpayee or Manmohan Singh or Abdul Kalaam Azaad. Now don't say I am Indian agent.GET A LIFE IF ANYONE THINKS SO.  I am talking about corruption here. None of those people can be called corrupt by even their strongest critics. Doesn't mean India doesn't have corrupt people but at least their culture has produced heroes like Gandhi.

Pakistam has Imran Khan. A world cup winning extremely charismatic captain who chose to stay in the country to fight for democracy. Noone can say he is corrupt.

Why can't we produce one leader , JUST ONE who is not corrupt. Reason is our society..it promotes and glorifies corruption.

CAN'T WE HAVE A SOCIETY WHERE WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN IT'S WRONG TO STEAL. IT'S WRONG TO EARN MONEY BY COMPROMISING ON YOUR ETHICS. IT'S WRONG TO BE DISHONEST. AND ITS UNPATRIOTIC AND UNHUMAN TO BE CORRUPT.

Let's have an honest discussion here. I pose this issue as a challenge to all u genuine patriotic Nepalese. RISE OVER THE PETTY ISSUES LIKE ...CAN U EVEN NAME IT ?..AND TALK ABOUT PRODUCING A BETTER SOCIETY SO THAT THEN WE CAN HAVE GOOD LEADERS WHO COULD FIGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY'S BETTER FUTURE AND OUR AND OUR CHILDREN'S.

prabhat,

if u click on my thread 'Intellectual Revolution for New Nepal', i have indicated similar issues.

u gave Imran as an example = so in ur view to be a leader u have to be celebrity??

nepalese have a made a tradition to vote thugs. so if u are a thug or a goon and nhave participated in riots instead of sitting in class, u have a fair chance of being elected? i think it is time to change that. don't u think?

enjoy.

unicornis,

just one post !! Thought it would be a genuine topic to discuss on. We Nepalese are SPEEDING ON WAY TO MORAL BANKRUPTCY. while we take pride in defending issues like hami student le chornu parcha, and chornu ramro ki naramro, is this what we r worth?

We r living, learning corruption and passing that on to generations to come, while this is happening and while we defend things like stealing and such we r definitely becoming morally bankrupt and mind you, that will doom us and we will doom Nepal.

We r so good at blaming others for almost everything. While we ignore to look within us, it's we who r real culprits. We promote corruption..knowingly or unknowingly. We bribe to get things done, praise people with money and nothing else matters..doesn't matter where it came from, we do the same and pass that on to our kids. I m ashamed to see threads in sajha like chornu parcha? Congratulation u guys. Carry on.

I don't care whether it's a celebrity or not. MY ISSUE WAS AND IS WHY CAN'T WE PRODUCE HONEST PEOPLE IN OUR SOCIETY WHO COULD BE GOOD LEADERS? The answer is as long we carry on being what we r our leaders will be the  same. Coz they r what we r.

Unicornis brother, Imran Khan was one of the superstars in cricket history. He lived a casanova life but later he realized others pain when his mom died of cancer. Supposedly and seemingly impossible, he built a Cancer hospital where poor people are still treated free of cost. He could have lived a luxurious life but he chose to stay in his country and fought for democracy. He chose to go to jail for the deposed supreme court judge. U know the youth in Pakistan look up to him as a hero just as youth in USA lookn up to Obama as a leader. He was not corrupt in a country like pakistan where corruption is a big  problem.

MY POINT IS NEITHER IMRAN, OBAMA NOR MANMOHAN SINGH, BAJPAYEE, ABDUL KALAAM AZAAD, NOR MANDELA..NO ONE WAS CORRUPT? WHY CAN'T WE PRODUCE SINGLE DAMN HERO WE COULD FOLLOW?

Coz we r the reason. We, morally doomed, coz we who defend stealing, coz we defend # 2 incomes when we take post, coz we scold our family members for being lata coz they rarely though happen to be honest, coz our entire system from MANTRI TO SANTRI depends upon corruption money for Dashain..

Yes it's we. And as long as we r what we r, as long as we don't change..we will be where we r even after 25 generations.

Jai Nepal

We can bellyache all we want and its not going to change anything in Nepal. Its best if we act rather than just keep complaining.

helpless brother,

I am glad u said that. And let me tell u honestly I am trying..trying to do something..first thing I can do is to change myself and my view and I have been successful so far in developing ethics, compassion, and rising above racial, communal division and bitterness that we have in Nepal. I request u to trust me.

Gandhi is my hero.Imraan is my hero too. I look up to them for inspiration. Non- violence and compassion is my principle. WELL I WAS NOT THIS BEFORE..BUT THINGS CHANGED.

Now..talking about bringing about positive change in Nepal, I am saying lets promote honesty and hardwork..lets not defend corruption..lets gather people..fewer they may be..may be 3,4, 5 or whatever and try to change the society around us. It's important that we the youth fight for genuine issues and change ourselves. Only then we can produce better society and better leaders and eventually better country.

We can have million dollars and a PhD, but if we r morally and ethically NIL..that life is as good as a scumbag.

I AM NOT TRYING TO LECTURE. I AM A MERE HUMAN WHO WANTS TO SEE THINGS IN A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE. I MAKE MISTAKES AND I AM IMPERFECT..BUT WORKING TO RISE ABOVE PETTY ISSUES, PAHADE MADHESHI RUBBISH, ..AND SO ON.

Please don't think I am giving " Bhashan". These r my true feelings.

The reason I logged in Sajha was to find compassionate friends for Nepal's better future with positive vision and broad undferstanding and respectful for other as well. It makes me hopeful when I see people like unicornis and helpless thinking the way they are.

Lets not give up.

i agree with helpless.

however prabhat bro, if u think sajha goers would read ur thread the most then u are wrong. but if u title ur thread as 'LOVE STORY = SHE/HE LEFT ME HANGING' or 'MUSIC FOR LIFE' or 'SEXY PHOTOS OF ...' they will innundate ur thread with feedbacks, comments etc. this shows how much we have developed even after coming to US. hey we should talk about sex, love and music as they are essential ingredients of life but HELLOOOO for a country like Nepal we need something else besides sex, love and music talk.

as for corruption, it started when developed countires began pouring grants, donations to build infrastructure, save wild animals and nature. people then in big posts saw this as easy money making source and nobody would go against them. gradually it got deeply rooted in our system and it evolved into such state that if u don't take a bribe or cheat then u are different.

solution = independent people without any party affliations should run Nepal.

enjoy

Anyone who thinks this is a lecture must call himself a dumm ass. This is a very valid issue and I agree with Prabhat bro. But action is needed. We know we all love our country by all means, but just not enough. We have the habit of saying oh someone will do it why worry, this is whats been happening for the past 20 years of what i have seen in Nepal. We are just not putting that extra effort for our future. How can we solve it when the lawmakers and the leaders are currupted? My answer to it is Kill few and all will come in a straight line.

We are running out of time!!

In my opinion, each and every person act as per the environment around. It's natural. Otherwise, you cannot survive in that environment. That's what everybody will do and only few people are exception to this. If the number of those few people grow, then we can see what we call transformation. Your action and your thoughts mostly get derived from how you are raised and what society are you raised in. And, it happens everywhere around the world.

Let's think what most of us here in sajha have done in the past. We got raised in Nepalese society until we hit at least 18-19. What we learnt while we got raised ? Earn money. If you earned in good way, let everybody know that what you did and how you are earning money. If you earned in bad way, keep it secret what you do and just try to hide it or make stories to reflect that money came in a good way. This is the culture we were born in. Only few people, later in their life can realize that what they were taught is not necessarily true. We did learn Naitkik sikschhya but never implemented them in life. We were taught that whatever elder does is right and one should respect that/them. YOu were not suuposed to raise questions about their actions and if you did, you were regarded as mannerless. How many of us managed to ask our parents how they earned money to send us to United States/ UK ?

nepali bro,

in 21st century voilence is not a solution. as someone said, there should be a change in oneself and nepalese needs the most.

Unicornis,

Seems like you are an exception. I am talking about "MOST" not exceptions since exceptions are very few in number. It's good you had taken loan and paid that promptly. If you want to discuss your case, we can take that as an example as well on proving how you were also acting as per the environment you were raised in. I don't think you had accumulated a lot of wealth by your age in Nepal enough to put as a collateral for the banks to provide loan to you.

jagate,

my environment was/is similar to most nepalese and my parents were honest and hardworking people. tell me who has $25000 hard cash in bank to show to US schools?

there is a saying back in Nepal and Hongkong that nepalese can produce all kinds of paper. it is true. if u ask all the nepalese in US and if someone says, he/she did not then they are lying through their teeth.

but ur statement about asking parents about how they made money = u are saying two things here 1) parents are corrupted cause they send u here 2) all wealthy nepalese are corrupted.

That's what exactly I was expressing before. We were taught to lie. I am not trying to say parents are corrupted cause they send you here. But, I was just trying to say you didn't dare to ask your parents how they managed money to send you here.

Also, I am not implying ALLwealthy nepalese as corrupt but I am saying "MOST" overnight wealthy Nepalese, at some point of time were corrupt and still might be corrupt.

Jagate, unicornis, and I am Nepali bros,

I am extremely glad this issue finally deserved some argument.

Let me put it this way, lets be positive. One thing in all of us is common, we want a better Nepal. We might have different views though but our goal is common.

I am Nepali bro, I understand ur frustration but killing wont solve this problem. This problem can be solved only by a generation of hardworking Nepalese people who will be different from their peers. We cant solve this problem overnight. At least we can start. Lets start with small goals.

First goal..Lets start by thinking and implying that no matter how diverse we r we r all the same, we r all equal. There must be no room for racial or communal or geographical discrimination.A person from Jhapa must be equally treated when he goes to some rural town in Janakpur or vice versa. This is easier said than done. But lets start from ourselves. Lets teach this to kids around us who will grow with this value. Coz today we have a generation who r grown on communal feeling and what is racial harmony they don't even know. We have people like..I don't wanna mention name..from Terai who encourage extremist views and from other parts of Nepal as well.

Second small goal..Lets have a GENUINE NEPALESE ORGANIZATION in USA which comprises of Nepalese of all colour, caste and community who r passionate to do something for Nepal in their lifetime . Why USA? coz we r fortunate to be here than our fellow Nepalese who r suffering from power outage and Nepal Bandhs. We r more capable of helping even if we raise $5 per person. They all have onething in common..GIVE A DAMN TO JATPAT AND MADHESH PAHAD AND BS..but fight for the cause.Fight for small causes. TELL U WHAT THIS WILL BE CONTAGIOUS..if we teach this to next generation we will end up producing a whole new generation who can live in peace. At least lets be optimistic. At least lets have this vision and work on this. Let's not look around , lets do it by ourselves.

COZ I BELIEVE IF U HAVE THREE THINGS..WILL, VISION, AND ABILITY..anything is possible. U don't have to be in Nepal to make it better. As long as u have will and dedication, u can contribute EVEN IF U R IN JUPITER OR PLUTO. ALL  U NEED IS LOVE FOR UR MOTHERLAND.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Glad u guys participated. Makes me more optimistic.

bigger goals

1. filter the honest and ethical people and let them run the most important aspects of Nepal...independent judiciary is a must. Press freedom is must. Any leader who is a open suspect must be held accountable and tried for war crimes or corruption in a fair way so as to teach a lesson for other politicians.

more to follow...

but FIRST OF ALL LET'S  CHANGE OURSELVES..that's what I call small goal.

Hi , I agree that we are not producing any fair leader but my concern is not only have few corrupt leaders but the whole corrupt society. Let me tell u a story, By a huge effort and trial i got a Government job and posted to a place and it was not that interesting to me but anyone who asked never asked that how u serve ppl but everyone asked how much corruption u can do or how much earning can u make fro it. So I donot blame only ledr but the whole society that has a corrupt vision and support only such moralities.the absolute bullshit.

Absolutely correct Hari dai. Welcome to the discussion forum.

That's why I think let's do something to produce a new generation who will be  totally different to a MOSTLY  corrupt society by teaching them honesty, hardwork, and moral values. We might not bring about the change but at least we will be the pioneers who started this process from grassroot.  Again not everyone is corrupt, but those who r honest and hardworking are suppressed in Nepal or they have left the country out of frustration.

ONLY WE CAN DO SOMETHING HARI DAI. LET'S START FROM US, LET'S START FROM YOU .LET'S START FROM ME.

tHOU SHALL NEVER GIVE UP. THOU SHALL NEVER GIVE UP.
