I got a great opportunity to participate
NPPA (Nepal Pasa Puch Amerikaye)
(Nepal Friendship Association of America).
Website: http://www.nppa-us.org/

It also has links with several other societies.
Unfotunately, I found dissatisfactions over its
regular members, in my search to answers why
do we have so many societies? e.g. NPPA has
a breakaway faction.

The answer that was given to me by some
loyal members and sympathizers of both societies
is that the origial association has group of members
who will not let new members outside their own circle
to occupy any responsible position and perform good job.
Its like Nepali Congress Party (Girija Group) where the
Koirala family occupies a prime role and they will never
let anyone outside Koirala family to hold an important
position. Thus, the young turks have no other option than
to create a rival new association which the sympathizers
of both group say that the new association is relatively
democratic. Bbut, it lacks history and burden to all well
wishers because they have to pay membership fees to both
and if you don't have interest in occupying any crucial
positions, then, its waste of money and nothing more and
loss of quality in various programs organized by them.

Well, this trend does not limit on NPPA, but, also extends on
ANA and other ANLS blah blah ........... They usually have
meetings held in such a tricky way that they can have their
next executive members from amongh their own closely
watched friends and supporters. They play tricks to avoid
any one outside of their group be able to contest and win
the election. They avoid giving any right to vote to Nepalis
outside their own predefined confident and trustable members.

Well, I tried to find the ANA's website and its ana-home.org
or anaonline.org Their website has link to only the page
for donations to these unfortunate Nepalis. I ofcourse greatly
appreciate their effort to support the families of these
unfortunate Nepalis when went to Iraq in the search of job.
But, ANA-home page should not limit its all other information
and activities to this one particular activtity. This page does
not tell the official information on any other officials or
executives other than Treasurer / GS of the ANA. You
can not trace out who is in their executive board? Once I tried
to get online membership and their website rejected my
submission. Is this their incompetency or their foul game
on members? I am forced to ask this question based on the
rumors that ANA is occupied by peoples who are closed
friends within their circle for long time and they won't let
others to enter, and the membership is one of the several
way how these officials can avoid any challenge from members
outside their own circle of trusted friends? If not, why in this
world where .com boom era, our ANA, the orgnization lacks
infomation dissemination through website?

Why? so many Nepali societies? Why don't they have unified
and efficient association? Why fragmented? Why do young turks
are forced to create new rival societies? A friend of mine who
went to Canada says that the societies in Canada (Nepali societies
and association) offcers are usually the guys who have lived
long in Canada and they usually have their own gatherings in
the name of Nepali Associations and they don't try to mix with
Nepalis who are not in well recognized professions and are comparatively
inferior profession (blue collar job vs white collar jobs). I am hearing
these days that ANA is also occupied by officers who are releuctant
to accept blue collar job Nepalis or simply try to keep away from
Blue collar job doers?

I am posting these issues to discuss and know experience
from others ? Lets discuss and try to resolve what is truth
and what is the reason that makes these associations
lack in quality (e.g. ANA does not have a real working website yet)
and how can we make them service oriented compared to chair
oriented?

If it gives you any idea, we have NAOO (- http://www.naoo.org), Nepal organization in Ohio. NAOO is the Ohio Chapter of ANMA. NAOO is an independent organization as long as management is concerned, except that it sends financial and activities report to ANMA once a year.

Well, it looks to me that ANA, ANMA and NAC are competing to take
credit for initiation of NRNA and NRN conference. Why should they compete?
If you can convince public that you were prime player in this issue, you
might be considered / recognized as an important umbrella orgnization
of Nepali Nuclear organizations. This can be seen in the report prepared
by Naresh Koirala and comments by others as follows: Let me cite first
the part of Naresh's report that draws conclusion based on Naresh's personal
judgement:

ANA and What it Needs To Do!

ANA is committed to ICC's mission. ICC operates on the basis of country representatives and not association representatives. This makes sense, but will require a legitimate representative country association to work. As a leading organization of Nepalis in North America, ANA must take leadership to bring together Nepali organizations in the country so that they can collectively fulfill ICC's mission. The participation of Kunjarji and Raja Upadhya (the only two North American representatives, both of ANA in the ICC meeting in London) has added to ANA's leadership responsibilities.

NRN's in North America need a representative country organization to fulfill ICC's mission. A fractious group of country representatives do not make a cohesive country group, which can take major decisions. The unfortunate reality is that despite the claims of various Nepali organizations to be the sole representative of all Nepalis in North America, a Nepali Organization, which truly represents the whole of Nepali community, does not exist. The modalities of such united organization must be agreed upon before the next ANA conference in Phoenix, so the united organization can be formally ratified by the ANA conference. This organization should have a separate cell to coordinate all ICC related NRN activities.

The Government and the People of Nepal expect us to actively promote Nepali culture and also market Nepal in our country of domicile. ANA needs to develop a concrete plan to do this and follow it up with action.

Now that NRN issues have come to the public domain in Nepal and we received a tremendous support from the media, we need to work with the media in Nepal and publicize our activities in Nepali media. This is the only way we can hope to continue getting media trust.

We should immediately start working towards production of a skill dossier of Nepali people who are willing to provide their services in Nepal both in the short and the long term.

A strategic planning meeting to collect funds for targeted united Nepali association-approved charity must also be formulated and put into action ASAP.

(with due acknowledgement to ANMA. http://www.anmausa.org/ )

Mr. Sharada Thapa's comments on Mr. Naresh Koirala?s report on the NRN conference

Mr. Sharada Thapa's comments on Mr. Naresh Koiralas report on the NRN conference~

2nd paragraph says:
"I, however, have some serious problems with the way in which the events leading to the Conference, the participation of the organizations in North America and the contributions and efforts of the various players has been described. I have a major disagreement with his interpretation of how best to fulfill the mission of ICC. Practically all of the problems are contained in the section titled "ANA and What It Needs To Do" and I, as the elected country representative for the US in the ICC, would be remiss in letting the report pass uncommented.

It looks to me:

By name alone: ANA looks superior.
By kaam: ANA applied for membership of NAC. ANA did not renew it,
and possibly smelled good to remain away from NAC and pose
a rival orgnization of NAC itself. ANA made a mistake by getting
that one year membership, if it really wants to be rival, but,
the history can not be rewritten. So, only way to ANA to do what
its name represent, is to correct its executive committee's internal
squabbles and make it transparent: those who participate ANA's
national convention: especially FairFax carcaus(?) say that the
key prizes were given to only the relatives and close friends of ANA's
executives members or organizers. This is just one example. The transparency
on exe.com election in ANA is also questionable as it surfaced in previous
election drama. ........ In that perspective NAC and ANMA are far ahead.

I have to keep on reading the news on these Nepali players in NA.

If I were in ANA's executive committe, instead of buying the
odd website name domain names for ANA (past name
http://www.ana-home.org/ and current http://www.anaonline.org/ )
I would have recommended to have http://www.a-n-a.org/ . Well,
three charactered domain name like ana.org was gone long time ago
then we could think of the power of domain names. But, domain like
A-N-A.org is still available and its easier to remember and enter than
the long name ANAONLINE.org . Like abbreviation: ANA, the domain
name a-n-a.org would still be powerful to first time visitors. Its my
personal idea, may be some other peoples have different ideas.
Name matters. Specially, in PR.

Top Ten reasons why TND is boring day by day!

10. Khojkhaber, matrimonial and women issues have been replaced by personal JHAGADA.

09. Our Dan Rather (News anchorman), Rajendra P. Shrestha, is leaving.

08. Durga Dahal has been busy harassasing women than writing his THOUGHTFUL comments.

07. Pramod Misra just CAN'T write short articles.

06. Arun Dev Dhital's romantic poems disappeared from TND.

05. P. Onta just reviews OLD articles.

04. Amulya's views about ethnic and religious conditions in Nepal sounds more complicated than in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

03. Ashu's articles cover his GBNC with HIGH IQs 90% of the time.

02. TND is getting more like "SANJHA KO NAYASADAK KO PIPAL KO BOT" than "BIHANI KO PASHUPATI MANDIR"

01. ANA members are going to sell bumper stickers in Denver....
that says.... TND SUCKS!!!
:) :) :)

ADIOS!!!

************************************************************* Date: Fri, 23 Jun 1995 11:13:07 +0700 To: Nepal Digest From: Suman Kumar Manandhar Subject: Mind Your Language

There was a recent posting to TND which I found revolting. People can voice their sentiments - political or otherwise - but they should keep in mind that Nepali families across the globe are reading TND on a regular basis and bad language is not acceptable on this platform. TND should not be used as an "electronic spreadshit". One can be critical of political personalities but abusive language is uncalled for.

I have only one thing to say...............
the person who is the president of ANA should be kicked out of ANA........... how in the hell can he preserve our nepalipan in america.... when his only daughther was living with a gora for years before she got married................ this should be the only reason for him to step down............ I thought ANA was here to promot nepali culture and socity... if his daughter is married to a white man what kind of message is he trying to send to our nepali society....
I THINK WE SHOULD RAISE THIS QUESTION IN DALLAS.......

if he can't preserve culture in his own family how in the hell can he preserve culture in our society....... he is unfit...............
