Vox Pop With the deadline for the US 2008 DV Lottery approaching, Nepalnews asked people their opinion on it: “I am not really interested in so called DV lottery system, because no one knows where the US government will settle us. As far as I know, they will send us to a small town and will not treat us like their citizens too.†From Nepalnews.com hahaha really stupid answer, its not us gov that gonna sent u to any place, u can choose any state u want

sapper ji, like bokeshwore said if you have done bachelors, finish your masters here and then look for a decent job. I am sure you can find GA or some assistantship while doing masters. Its just two years too. I have talked to a lot of people and every time I ask them I get one of these answers, 1. I do not know english 2. I don't have money 3. Sidhai paisa kamauna chodera kahaan padhne... well, my answers are: 1. If People from Japan, China can come here learn English and finish off their degrees, why can't us, At least we have some decent english education back home, yeah I am including the public schools here too.. 2. Yes its going to be tough, and everyone here in US while in college is broke. Since you have Green Card, you can easily get job and finance your studies here. Sure you won't have extra money to do stuffs or send back home, but think about the future. 3. If you are willing to work for a minimum wage hourly work rest of your life, then mero bhannu kehi chhaina... Hopefully this helps.. Lastly, Ethics, its true that dhotis provide job and help helpless Nepalis, but their agenda is not to help but to exploit this helpless workforce everywhich way they want. Do you know if you are really helpless, the constantly harass you with threats like "Main tumhe immigration main dunga" if you are illegal, "Kaisa paisa, tumhe khilata hoon, rehneko jagah di hai, kya yeh kaafi nahin kya?",... and so on.... there is no need to be thankful for these dhotis. If they are providing job, then Nepalis are working their arse off too. They are not doing any charity, its just business. Peace...

I don't understand what kind of discussion going here? here is my two cents: 1) If you have a good job back home and sees good future for you and your family, don't apply for DV 2) If you are thinking to apply DV,make sure that you are ready to start your life from Zero, there will be lots of struggle but you will find lots of opportunities if you want to do something at your own.. 3) If you guys are really frustrated with American life,go back to Nepal and serve the country 4) Do not hate people who are coming here winning DV lottery just because they are not literate and weak in English(I do not mean that everybody winning DV lotterry are not well educated,,there are people who can really use their skills here)...help those people who are not well educated but DV winners...ask them to get trained in some skills and assist them to find good job 5) In whatever VISAS, you guys are here, you are part of one good Nepalese community...Enjoy your life as better community..do not pull their legs... 6) Last but not the least...do not show up your frustrattion here to frustate others...try to do something good... Good Luck everybody....be positive

DV winners...you guys are the lucky ones and your first door is open for you. Now its upto you. how to take it from there. if you have your bachelors in nepal please apply for masters. There are thousands and thousands of university in US and some require good grade and some don't. So my suggestion is take GRE and pursue your masters degree. Please do not go to Gas station or Dhoti's place. This is because once you start to work you will start to see some dollars in your pocket and you will forget about the study. But I know none of us are rich enough to have our parents to pay our tution, so we all have to work But if you can get a GA (graduate assistant) or TA (Teaching Assistant)( when i say TA you don't have to have teaching exp to apply for this position but will be helpfull) Some department will not have enough funding (apply in falls this is what they call their fiscal year and most will have enough fund for GA and TA) but look around in different departments and you wil be able to find you one or some department head can stronglyly recommend you to other department which will be easier for you to get into other department's TA position. wish you all the Best

Suparithula, You must be preety frustrated with your life right? I know Immigration laws in US is getting worst and worst and I see you are suffering, you started calling all DV winners a Pakhe from remote place. Do you consider Kathmansu a remote place. if you go back and study geography once again aight. Also reading your name you sound a real PAKHE

Quit blaming the Indians and Pakis gastations. They are the sole providers of employment to the Nepali students who can not work legally and to the DV winners who lack basic english skills to communicate in any other job. They are actually doing us favor. Where else would our people work if they were not there. forget about harsh treatment and long hours. That is what comes in when you live in american with F1 visa or do not have enough skills to get a better job.... Some of the DV winning folks are lucky that they have good education and DV on thier hand , both. Most DV winners are bachelor completed but like 2o years ago. Most case they do not even have it. I have seen very few going to colleges or learning some vocational trannings. well, they are the first generation immigrants. They will have hard time but their children will have golden future. if their children don't become one of those wannabes and drop out of high school and smoke mary jane , playing playsation with the confused souls.... well, in that case , i think you can say welcome to the usa.... And don't forget, no place like Nepal for Nepalis....

" Last but not the least...do not show up your frustrattion here to frustate others...try to do something good... " Nanu, let the reality come up front. I say, let people bring out their frustration if they're frustrated. Let the folks living in Nepal know about the true image of the life in the USA. Don't put anything on shadow or try to hide the frustrated people. If people are frustrated , let's hear. Listen nanu, coming to USA is not like going to Banaras, okay. It takes a lot of money , okay little girl. It takes years and years of planning for a avg Nepali. Seperation from friends and family. Most cases, for avg Nepali , life long savings are invested. It's not like a vaccation place for most Nepalis where they can go if they don't like it. It's one way or the other for most Nepalis. It is a big investment and hope and if it doesn't work dreams dies, hope scattres. It' s not like you can give up living here, go back to Nepal and continue living your while from where you left off. It will destroy your self confidence, your hope, your dreams. Most importantly it will suck up your golden age of your life while trying to accomplish - nothing. So i advise every Nepali to be careful. America can be a bless or a curse. depends how smart you make your move. And nanu, please be sensitive. If you don't know things about Nepali society, if you do not know about a avg Nepali's hopes, dreams, and expectations, Please do not represent them . don't try to write in behalf of them, or give advises.

Supari thula, you do realize that more than 80% of Nepal is remote village. Its cause of ignorant people like you, Nepal is still so much backwards. you seem like a "Pakhey" to me with words like that. Just cause people do not have access to your modern lifestyle , I do not think they are pakhey, they just have their own existence. To the best of my knowledge, this word pakhey originated in Kathmandu by its natives, self proclaimed sahariya.... anyway I have a lot to say but with your constricted vision and small mindset, I do not think you are equipped to listen and understand what I have to say.... Peace....

Dyamn,I apologize if I have written something wrong...As I wrote there,it was my two cents...and it was entirely my view...I am not representing others..I was just trying to defend hatred against DV winners...As a avarage Nepali,I have gone through all the phases of a cycle... Still,I say: be positive...And I still believe that if somebody is really frustrated, better go back to Nepal..it is a beautiful country and you don't have to start from Zero there...
