Gurkhas have been fighting as part of the British Army for almost 200 years, but who are these fearsome Nepalese fighters?

my granddad was a Gurkha soldier in the British Army. he was in the 10th GR. Then he was posted in Singapore where i saw my granddad together with my dad serving in the same regiment. Everybody was betting on me that i would continue to serve the Royal Crown but i became a prodigal gurkha. All my cousins are in the British Army serving the crowns and so are most of my friends.
its a GREAT prestige to become a GURKHA.

Well, you can think of making of a movie by using these armies to correct the country.

supposedly they can. Anyway Gurkhas has already been helping Nepal. Did you know that income source from the Gurkhas is very important to Nepal. It is only second after tourism to bring in foreign revenue to Nepal.
But i guess not for very long. As long as nepal detoriate and does not improve, Gurkhas and their families are now relocting to other parts of the world.
Gurkhas now can get UK citizenship and so they won't be returning to Nepal once they retired as did previous Gurkhas.

Jai Gurkhas

To all Gurkhas fans,

I think Gurkhas are loyal fighters. They would fight the same way for Osama bin laden, Maoists, British Empire, or kings of nepal. I think its in Neplease nature to be loyal with vandata that makes them fierce warriors. 200,000 gurkhas died in world war II and for what?....gurkhas gurkhas what did u die for?....and gurkha said nothing at all. It was nothing but a foriegn employment. Gurkhas who were raising corns in the hills of nepal were recruted for minimum wage to be cannon feeders by Brits, at home Rana sold them for 10.00 pounds each as royalty and kept the money in their personal account.

Nothing so as to disrespect those fierce and loyal fighters. But i wish those 200,000 productive young men have stayed back home in nepal and raised some corn or kodo..so that nepal would not have pushed 50 years backwards. No one knows how much the death of 200,000 gurkhas effected nepal economically. I think that being a gurkha is just a foriegn employement and i am in favour of foriegn employment. I encourage more ppl to go out and seek employment. But there is no pride in haviing those 200,000 anchestors being kills for no apparent reason .They killed themselves for the war that they had no idea of. Gurkhas didnt even no who they were fighting for and what the world war was all about. Lets reach out the world and find ways to get employed in each way we all can. So that the little jobs we have left in Nepal can be spared for neplese back home. But lets also stop being proud of gurkhas who died for brits for 10.00 pounds its. It was our misfotune that our anchestors were used by people at home and the emperilists for their own benefits.

sidster you do not even know the history. at least my ancestors fought in both world wars for the GOOD guys.
without gurkhas having to fight the evil countries that was invading, killing everyone, i bet you would be here to day writing all this.

also by staying in nepal, what could they do instead of raising corns and cattles.
become a farmers all his life

LIFE IS A BATTLE ITSEFL. WE START OUR FIGHT FROM THE TIME WE TRY TO GET UP, TO THE TIME WE TURN OFF OUR FAVORITE THINGS ON TV OR INTERNET AND GO TO SLEEP, CAUSE WE HAVE TO BE READY THE NEXT DAY.

I THINK A PERSON WHO IS LOYAL TO THE CORE AND HAS THE COURAGE TO SHOW IT IS THE GREATEST SOLDIER OF ALL TIMES.

THE GURKAS HAD BOTH LOYALTY AND COURAGE , BUT ABOVE ALL THEY WERE HUMBLE. AND WTH THIS HUMBLENESS THEY SWEPT THIS WORLD. THIS IS WHAT I THINK.

I love Khukuri...Im a huge collector too...........I love the story where The gurkhas beat the Japs in world war two in hand to hand combat, after ammunition of their guns ran out. They strated throwing stones at each other and than it came down to Khukuri VS the samurai katana swords.......they didnt stand a chance against our Sirupate Dhar Khukuri and the feirce Gurkha temper( if you know what I mean). From that day the Japs feared to face the Gurkhas......AWESOME MAN!!!!

Gurkhas are people of nepali origin the MAGURALI ethnicity who have been traditionally serving british and indian army. interestingly nepal army is not considered Gurkha. another interesting fact Gurkha is a name of a place ie Gorkha (britons skewed the spelling for their convinience) whose king was a chettri but chettris are not considered as Gurkhas by the british. since bahuns and chettris are not elligible for joining the British (mainly because bahuns are very politically aware; had they been allowed in the british army you might have seen bahuns in british parliament and not just army, why do you think it took so many years for gurkhas to get their rights because no bahuns to help them) the MAGURALIs first try for british then indian army if they fail then they join RNA. no wonder RNA is so crappy. all the good ones are gone foreign only the frustrated SOBs are left who show no mercy in killing people.

personally i don't think Gurkhas are anymore brave than americans, indians, iraqis or britons or whatever. when you enter war zone you have to do or die.
