Can someone tell me the whole story? Anyways, its her personal right and she is free to make her own opinion and disclose it to public if she likes.
If you don't feel like watching her movie, just don't but don't look for reasons.

Manisha Koirala heckled in Nepal
Friday January 27 2006 15:01 IST

IANS

KATHMANDU: While her screen performances may have won her bouquets, Bollywood star Manisha Koirala got a taste of brickbats while campaigning for the controversial local polls in Nepal.

The actress, who is the granddaughter of the late BP Koirala, Nepal's first elected prime minister and one of the kingdom's most charismatic leaders, ran into bad publicity after she went to Biratnagar in eastern Nepal to campaign for the Feb 8 municipal elections.

While her grandfather's party, the Nepali Congress, is boycotting the elections, Manisha has thrown her weight behind her father Prakash Koirala who is supporting the poll and was made a minister in return for supporting King Gyanendra's power grab last year.

On Thursday, when Nepal was paralysed by the nationwide shutdown called by the seven opposition parties to protest against the king's rule and the elections, Manisha went to Biratnagar to propose the name of a mayoral candidate.

She filed nominations on behalf of Binod Arryal, a former member of the Nepali Congress who is now fighting as an independent candidate.

While star-struck youngsters lined up the road to catch a glimpse of Manisha, political activists shouted slogans, denouncing her participation in the poll campaign, a local daily reported on Friday.

The slogans, however, left the star unfazed.

"I am not scared just because a handful of people are raising slogans against me," she said. "I feel good when there is a challenge. I have come here all the way from Mumbai to get Arryal elected."

The poll drama has divided the Koirala family.

While Manisha and her father are supporting the exercise, it is being opposed by her granduncle Girija Prasad Koirala, B.P.'s younger brother and former three-time prime minister of Nepal.

Manisha's aunt Sujata and two uncles, Shashank and Shekhar, are also opposing the polls.

she's gone against her familiy views. that sets her apart from the rest.
if you don't agree with her, fine. but remember that in democracy you have to hear all sides.

12 years of democracy and what do we have to show for it?

well...I had known manisha all these years....should rather say all those years...I can recall we were bantering while she was doing Megha wool.... and that was the end of it.

She was always so pretty...she is a far cousin and therefore i have no hesitation to disclose I had a crush on her, mind you guys...attraction between far cousins do not lead to incest.

I met her in between intermittently....where I was surprised to hear her speaking hindi with all....I was more surprised to see her speak in nepali while she was campaigning for her dad....gracefully bilingual I must say.

I met her in New York again....she refused to talk to me and did not even recognize me....tch..tch...poor girlperhaps needs a lens to make her cousin visible again.....she has aged I must say....

She is emotional...dangerously emotional...and pours her woes out when she drinks a whole bottle of chivas regal...thanks to her dad...drinking had come in tradition. You and I do not need liquor to speak our heart out. She is depressed I must say.

She believes in "change"...so she changes boyfriends, keeping globalization in mind. From hindu to muslim to christian and from india to australia to Africa. A philanthrope (who gives her heart away to all)......I must say.

She is a good actress....incredibly good...well, can't you see her performing in all those movies made by subhas ghai, vidhu vinod chopra, mani ratnam et al?...(uh..kindly omit all those movies from the directors we never knew). A versatile actress I must say...she knows when to perform well and when not to.

She has a short term memory...sometimes she forgets she is a nepalese...I do not blame her at all...actresses are always busy.... and ironically her memory returns back during elections.......sudden love for her country suddenly brings back her memory...a devout politician l must say.

Manisha...My heart bleeds for you dearest...pardon all these sinners who do not understand you.

Kudos Manisha,
You did it. Offended your loyal(?) fans for your dad's legitimacy. There was one named Shrawan kumar; and here you are second. I wish I had a daughter like you.

Sona,

I do not agree with you. Neither I favor GP nor I oppose him however leading the nation and controlling the family members are two completely different things. I do not see both relevant in any way. In politics, a son and a father may have different views. Someone who has control over the family members does not make him/her a lesser or more capable leader.

Simon,

I agree. I wouldn't accept Girija to lead me but his inability to control is not the reason. I respect GP for that. He is not barring his family to follow different idealogy.

"Control" in this sense is little inclined toward dictatorship.

Everybody entitled to have there opinion. But the question is the opinion you have is genuine or not? Manisha has right to say whatever she want but to support the poll in Nepal this time is a bad judgment for any one who is knowledgeable enough to understand the political scenario.

You can't have both ways - both you Gyane supporters & Girija/Makune supporters....

To Girija/Makune supporters first. Manisha as an individual has the right to speak her mind (not sure how big that mind is), so no need to berate her for doing so. Aren't you fighting for that right? Sure her opinions are biased because of her mantri-father (I would like to hear the Koirala family politics from insiders like John Galt) but it's a view nonetheless. Although self-centered celebrities like Manisha might think that they can sway public opinion one way or the other because of the publicity they generate, the ultimate impact is probably nil (might even be negative because it offends so many people). Manisha is not the first nor she is going to be the last celebrity to inject himself/herself into the public policy debates. Better to ignore her than take notice.

Now to Gyane supporters. You guys claim to be anti-Indian nationalists. Manisha is not the best spokesperson for your cause i.e. making local election successful (sorry guys, it ain’t happening). In my view, Manisha is more an Indian/Dhoti than a Nepali. She has become what she is in India. Because of that she probably has more affinity to India than even the most pro-Indian Sadhbhawana cadre - otherwise her buddies in Bollywood will ostracize her by calling "Namak Harem"). Just because she was born in a blue-blooded Nepali family does not mean that she knows/understands Nepal. She has probably spent most of her adulthood in Bombay and elsewhere but not in Nepal. She could have made up for her geographical distance by dating an "authentic" Nepali guy like John Galt :-) but as far I as I know, she has not - she had flings with Indians, Muslims, Whites and Blacks but alas not Nepalese. She may even disdain Nepal. I have read that when ANA had convention in Atlanta in 1998 (?), a south Indian group (the Bangalore-techies) also had a convention there. At the Indian venue, Manisha along with couple of Bollywood celebrities entertained the crowd. ANA officials knowing that she was in town invited her but she declined because, guess what, ANA could not afford her fees (someone please verify this story)… Now’s that’s the standard-bearer of the anti-Indian Nepali nationalists… what f***ing hypocrites.

Manisha is against Koirala in Nepal polls
Sudeshna Sarkar / IANS
Wednesday, January 25, 2006 23:04 IST

KATHMANDU: Bollywood star Manisha Koirala is in Nepal to campaign for the municipal polls on February 8 even though her granduncle and former prime minister GP Koirala is at the forefront of opposition protests against the elections.

The Nepali beauty, who has carved a niche for herself in India’s film industry, plans to stay till the February 8 elections and take part in the campaign.

Manisha is the granddaughter of the late BP Koirala, Nepal’s first elected prime minister, who in the 1960s bore the brunt of the then king Mahendra’s attacks on parliamentary parties.

Mahendra’s son King Gyanendra followed in his father’s footsteps last year, seizing absolute power and jailing most opposition leaders. The king’s direct rule is being opposed by B P Koirala’s Nepali Congress party under the leadership of his younger brother G P Koirala.

Manisha, however, has chosen to support the king. So does her father, Prakash Koirala, who last year was made a minister by the king in his handpicked cabinet.

While Nepali Congress is boycotting the polls, Prakash Koirala has formed a new party, Nepali Congress (Nationalist), which is taking part in the controversial exercise. “It is my duty to come to Nepal during elections,” Manisha told the state-run Rising Nepal in an interview. “I will help create an atmosphere for polls.”

Manisha came down heavily on the opposition parties as well as the international community for not supporting the polls. “They did not say a word when Bhutan’s king evicted 100,000 of his citizens of Nepali origin who have been suffering,” she said.

She added King Gyanendra had seized power last year to restore democracy. “His Majesty has asked for three years, which is not a very long period.” “The king is democratic.”

The actress said political parties should join the king to help resolve the Maoist insurgency. “They should first pay attention to the current national crisis and only then raise their political agenda.” Her statements came even as her granduncle and three-time former prime minister G P Koirala appealed to the UN and international community not to recognise controversial local elections February 8.

The octogenarian leader, who was released from house arrest on Sunday, said the civic elections called by King Gyanendra have no “social, political, legal or moral base”.

“I therefore appeal to the international community, including the UN, to de-recognise it,” Koirala said in a statement. Koirala’s Nepali Congress party is leading a seven-party opposition alliance opposing Gyanendra’s power seizure by force last year and is now actively campaigning for a boycott of the polls.

Another former prime minister and senior leader of the same party, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, has also broken his virtual political retirement and urged the king to put off the polls and begin reconciliation with the opposition parties.

Bhattarai, perceived as being close to the palace, said the king should end direct rule, release all political detainees and ask the parties to dialogue to form an all-party government.
