We all support democracy. Who in their rightful mind does not support democracy? But, the current wave of democratic movements might be an unfortunate case of displaced loyalty.

How?

To begin with, when we Nepalese join hands in this fight for democracy, do we know what we're getting into or if this democracy is going to be the 'real' meaning of democracy that we are craving for?

Basically what we are doing right now with all the demonstrations and strikes is forcing the current royal government to bow down and instill the politicians into power.

What we are fighting for right now is not democracy. We are only fighting to put certain politicians into power of the government.

Democracy begins with the government. It's the governments perogative to impart democracy. It is these politicians that we are fighting for who are supposed to give us democracy.

I would not stand back one instance if our fight was for democracy, and if the immediate result of our fight was democracy. But in reality it is not. The immediate result of our fight - is getting a select group of politicians in power. That's all.

What they do after they get into power is something that we have to think about. Are they really going to work towards making Nepal a democratic country? Do you actually believe that these politicians are going to make Nepal a democracy?

I think a lot of people here need to ask that question. You need to be aware that these politicians are riding on the wave of your support for democracy. But when the time comes, ie. when they are in power, would they give a damn about the people who brought them to power, or will they abscond into oblivion after gobbling up all the money they can?

Some hard core politicians inclined friends among us will start their name calling propaganda and brand me as a royalist. But the fact of the matter is they do not have a open mind to see reality as it is and they are happy to place their whole trust on these corrupt politicians to impart democracy someday. Talk about blind faith.

I agree on the statements by saroj. However, in a pessimist's language, the decision is to chose for BAD (at the scenario u've given for democracy; but it has the probability of doing good somewhere in future) or to chose for WORSE FOREVER.

Gwajyo,
If you look at all the politicians that we are currently fighting to put in power, do you see any ONE among them who will truely care about Nepal and Nepali? Do you have hope on any ONE of them that they might do something good in the future?

Name me some current politicians that you have faith on.

If not, let us just be aware of what we are fighting for.

Well said saroj. I would not also be a bystander if the fight was for democracy. I would fight for democracy. But when the corrupt leaders want power anyhow, even if by allowing themselves to collaborate with terrorists, how can I fight for their so-called democracy at the moment.

That is why I am giving the benifit of doubt to the king. In fact I would support the king now just to vanquish the parties like NC, UML and Maoists.

Well Saroj, thats your point of view but I see it too pessimistic. I see your point, the politicians who are most likely to benefit from this movement are all thugs and so are the politicians who are in power now. I believe we can do better than this.

Again I'm saying it if you want to argue just for the sake of arguing and going on believing blindly, then it's ok.

We all agree that current political leaders are corrupted, and we know about their bad deeds. The beauty of democracy is that we can know about their misdeeds, and we have the power to replace them. But with the other system, you won't know any of their bad deeds, that doesn't mean that nothing bad is going around. And if you want to believe in so called "murda shanti", then it's fine. Afterall, royals can never be questioned and they're above the law.

Think rationally saroj jee.

Well you think my view is pessimistic. It is not pessimistic, but it's a dose of reality. Let's stop fighting to put these corrupt leaders into power.

"The beauty of democracy is that we can know about their misdeeds, and we have the power to replace them. But with the other system, you won't know any of their bad deeds, that doesn't mean that nothing bad is going around."

Not to be rude, but you are talking as if we are going to have democracy as soon as the king gets kicked out. Also, if we get these politicians into power it does not mean that we will know about the bad deeds.

Bandhu, you say " I believe we can do better than this.", but can these politicians do any better? Ask yourself that.

hello all,

okay, lets make things clear.... do we want democracy... or do we want MAKUNE/GIRIJAcracy...

sounded kinda lame.. but thats how saroj sounds too..... here.. lemme quote him... he said..

"You need to be aware that these politicians are riding on the wave of your support for democracy. But when the time comes, ie. when they are in power, would they give a damn about the people who brought them to power, or will they abscond into oblivion after gobbling up all the money they can?"

okay... so we supported them to come to power.... he realises that.... but doesnt realise that... WE.... were not there ... "NOT" tp support them.. when they misused the power??????? .... so that means.... WE can get them on power..... but cant get them offf it.... when they.... misuse it????

ISN'T THAT OUR FAULT??? NEPALI janta ko fault... afterall it was "PRAJA" tantra...

and u want the SHAH history to repeat itself ???... when gyanendra tries to take advantage of US NOT taking action against those corroupt politicians... ????

kinda makes me amused........ so u send girija to power..... and u want him to be good?? without any junta monitoring him??? and makune kinda monitors him.... giving hint to the juntas that girija was bad... i might be too.... and junta lets makune take over girija... and they leave him alone too.... and makune is like... oh shit.... lotsa money here... lets deposit all the money in my bank account before girija takes over,......... and us juntas?? juss critisizing... instead of taking any actions??? and we stilll blame them?? WELL IT WAS OUR FAULT PEOPLE..... DONT BLAME THEM SERVENTS.... JUSS KICK EM OUT... GET NEW PPL... AND MONITOR THEM........ LEARN THAT LESSON NOW......

and yeah about saroj's article...... SAROJ its not a personal fight... ... if u want "prajatantra" or "loktantra" to be succesful... stop critisizing... and take part in it... its "PRAJA"tantra for god sake... not "GIRIJA"tantra....... and if us "PRAJAs" let them alone.. they're gonna do wutever they like... so... well ..... get it bro???

ppl are funny!! its time we realise our mistake... 250 years SHAHs.... 9 years... a huge mess made... and we're reponsible for that .... PRAJAs..... remember?? it was PRAJAtantra.... and if u dont agree... well phew... id ont know how to explain u guys...

You can get them to power yes. But can you get them out of power? Maybe we have to spend another 50 to 100 years to get them out of power but what do you do, you have to follow the crowd like bhedas.

oh yeah saroj, i meant to say... its not a fight between the juntas and Girija.. or the juntas and gyanendra... its a fight between the Juntas... and the system that they want.... so lets fight for the SYSTEM... and if we win..... in favor of "prajatantra" again.. or the "lok tantra"...... thats when we choose the right "neta" for us... and if u still cant monitor the new neta at that time... thats when u stop shouting at them on Sajha.. and goto Nepal and shout at them in person..... now that u've learnt ur lesson... and that all the "netas" that u chose 9 years ago ditched u.... yup... thats it...

why do you guys not give democracy a chance. How can you compare 700 years of monarchial rule over 15 years of infant democracy???

When democracy was granted in 1995, the leaders were strong to lead, but not prepared to build, haste for reform, but not equipped for progressive change.

Granted the choices are not the best, but what would you choose, because in times like these staying neutral are becoming more and more difficult.

We now have a chance to bring an evolved democracy with the voice of the progressive generation, as OPPOSED to one of the richest monarchs of the second poorest nation to continue their rampage (who by the way is parading around the regions of Nepal like a trussed up thanksgiving turkey trying to win the peoples affection, and oh how so conveniently at a time like this, i say please do not desecrate that military camoflouge any further, what's more the hat he's wearing has nothing to do with the RNA but instead the Gurkha Rifles which is just flat ironic and ridiculous. But i do like his military regulation shades, nothing says "i love my people" than staring into black gucci designers.)

I will take the former option anyday.

Give democracy a chance, it is young, but moving forward fast.

Nepalese do not like democracy. Nepalese like chairman Mahila Sahu, chairman Prachande Pandit. Nepalese do not like their fathers, brothers, and brother-in-laws. Nepalese like only masters. Sometimes it makes you ashamed to call yourself a Nepalese. Thuikka yo zindagi pani ke zindagi.

it's really a shame n' KG, makune n' girijas are disgrace to nepalese society. Now I also feel shame to read sarojjee coz' he's try' 2 justify the telephone disruption; labeling of any murders inside Nepal as suicide, crack down on media n' political activities by trying to show only the corrupted leaders. Now, I'm fed up of arguing with people like u (sarojjee).

Read this: "Earlier, Minister Thapa had said the government had credible information of the Maoists “infiltrating” into the mass meeting being organized by the opposition alliance. Maoist chairman, Prachanda, however, made it clear in a statement that his party had no plans to “infiltrate” into the seven parties’ rally or meeting slated on Friday.

Minister Thapa, however, did not say anything if and how peace activist, Krishna Pahadi, ideologue Nilamber Acharya, civil society leader Devendra Raj Panday or other political leaders could incite violence in Kathmandu."

Source: http://www.nepalnews.com/archive/2006/jan/jan19/news24.php

Can you tell sarojjee that the activists like Mr. D.R. Panday is also corrupted? Did you watch his interview by Vijay kumar Panday at kantipur.com? I'm glad that the people like also exist there. N' you're trying to justify KG's action? You're gonna regret Sarojee. However, I do agree that corrupted leaders may be in power but atleast we can have the hope that they'll be replaced some day by good people. But if you try to support KG, our future remains dark forever without a single ray of hope.

Please think carefully.

I think it's very stupid to root for the politicians who have joined hands with the Maoists who are terrorists.

Although I am not a fan of the king, I don't want to support these opportunistic leaders who support the Maoist with the hope of getting a taste of power.

Who knows if the Maoists are gonna chop up all the leaders and stay in power once they are able to get rid of the king.

I agree with Gwajyo when he/she states that with democracy and corrupt leaders at lead, we could at least hope for them to be replaced unlike with Monarch, but only if Maoists had been out of the equation. When we get into the “prajatantra”, “ganatantra” or “rajtantra” talks, we always somehow forget about the third and major force in political turmoil which is Maoists. We are caught up between figuring out who is better, the King or the democratically elected leaders. Let’s not forget that Maoists are still in the equation.
We waited for 15 years to see if the corrupt leaders who were democratically elected would be replaced by good ones. It never happened. We could have waited for longer, but the threat and terror of Maoists grew stronger and stronger. The inept leaders nearly plunged the country to give it to the Maoists forever to turn it in to a communist state run by terrorists. The king then stepped in. Now I am not sure, if Maoists were tactfully created by the king to come back to power but we could leave that doubt aside as a mere speculation. Hence, the power hungry, money thirsty, corrupt, illiterate, undiplomatic, visionless leaders gave birth to Maoists during their rule of 15 years. Now tell me, had these leaders worked for the people, and for the progress of the country, would we have seen the uprising of Maoists or the takeover of the King? I doubt.

Welll its not abt the support... its was all about solving the problem.... getting them on the table... talking to them... trying to solve things out without violence..... well and please dont ask me why they couldn't do it when they were in power.... well they might have tried... i dont know... this isnt the time to think abt the past and get mad at them... this is the time to think about the future.... and MOVE our LIVES on...

Yes this is a time to move on. These leaders must have been busted a way before for the things that they have put us through. Not only that I do not even mind if something happens to Makune or Girija. All the corrupt will start running for their life.

Then true leaders will rise to pose a threat to monarchy and maoists. There aint gonna be rats like girija to play us all.

Till then have fun burning in Hell !!!

I would like to offer a correction:
All the corrupt with the control over the army will chase all opponents and label them "corrupt" (whether or not that is true). All "corrupt" without control over army will start running for their life. All corrupt with control over the army will be labeled divine descendants.
