is it that hard for nepali people to give up indian ways.........? I feel sorry for all you people who come here .. who can't even voice their own opinion about being a nepali, but favor indian ways...... if you feel so attached to india and her ways... don't you think it's time you people switched sites and go to some indian sites and kiss their ass..... most nepalis are just DARSHAK's..... all you can do is watch.. but have no guts to speak a single word.... most of you are good at criticizing others and what they do but can't stand up and start someting... YOU CAN SEE A LICE ON SOMEONE's BODY BUT CAN"T SEE A BUFFALO UP UR ASS.. People like Confused sicken me.... all you have to say is bad about others.... you can't even stand up and say Yes I am a Nepali,..... I won;t listen to hindi songs... I won't see hindi movies... I will try to minimize my use of hindi culture everyday..... I will try to act and walk and talk as a nepali in every possible way ....... Maybe if you can't feel me... it's time to give up ur nepali citizenship and hit the border to the south... I asked a simple a question... how about we dont' dance to hindi songs? nobody even uttered a word..... people this is s nepali site.. not indian... no one is going to say anythign to you if you say ... yes today I won't dance to indian music... how hard is it? I guess most of you forgot those years before multiparty democrazy came to nepal.. when we all had to stand on line to get sugar and oil... but we were proud to be a nepali... nobody wanted to bow down to india..... but just after 15 yrs.......... looks like the whole generation of nepalis have turned up indian..... what a change? shame on you people.... jai nepal

Dayummm.. Eka bihano bihaani kina yestari nissassiyeko? Here you go, cold orange Juice, might help ya. :) . . . hmmm!! How do you feel now? Okay, aba thanda dimag le listen to what I have to say. So you want everyone to walk your way? Think exactly the way you think? Dance on the tune you play? Bro, that ain't gonna happen... coz that sounds more like "dictatorship" to me. I am a free man, I'd prefer doing whatever I please to do. hoina ra? If somebody comes out of the blue and tells you not to do this, not to do that, you might not like it either. As far as I am concerned, I've got just one life. I don't really believe in reincarnation and all those craps. And in this life I'd try to do whatever I could, whatever gives me a simple pleasure. If Zakir Hussain's tabala gives me a little pleasure, I'd go for it, buy it, listen to it, admire it, criticize it. What's wrong with that unless I am forcing others to listen to it? If I see a juicy meatloaf, I don't hold back thinking about my religion. I'd go for it, try it... enjoy it. And when I return back to Nepal, I'll do "gau-daan". Isn't that the best part of being Hindu? And I give a huge rat ass if somebody tells me I am wrong. As far as I know the limitations (like going around killin' people, hurt someone, rip someone off) I'd go ahead and do whatever gives me small pleasure.... like listenin' to AR Rahman's songs, watching Amitabh Bachchan's movies, and of course dance in Bhangara... Nepali jhyaure in bhangara. (Rakshi paryo pachi Nepali ko choro dances on anything, and on the top of that, rakshi khaana ta jaat le paako, why'd I hesitate??). About people not replyin' on your thread, I guess all the sajhaities have freedom to reply on the postings they want to reply. Nobody can force them. This is the place where they practice freedom, not the dictatorship... hoina ra??? aru yestai ho hera, I am eating tato tato microwave heated samosha with imleee ko achar.... Yeah it's little early to eat it, but ke garne? When your heart says "yes", your mouth really can't say "no"... eh La, enjoy the weekend...

" what bad thing did i say about other nepalese? do not blame me for something i havent done, and again dont write anythign stupid that u dont know. and i like Robin n Looza as much as i like A.R raheman. Incase if u r wondering who r R N L bhanera, then they are the best nepali band in my opinion. bro, calm down, there is no harm in admiring something. If hindi songs are good, then i will listen to it, and hence at last, ur problem is u dont see us as all being human beings but u clasify ppl as being nepali and indian. I am not saying follow me.......... do as I do and say as I say....... what if india decides to come and take nepal like it did Sikkim in the 70's ,.... do you people still want to dance to bhangra ...... they have already hijacked our music, culture and everything and replaced it with theirs........... now congress is the ruling party of india.. they might just come with their army and demand our country tooo, because it is indira gandhi's party .. she was the one who stole sikkim................... I guess nepal can't count on you to protect her from being occoupied by india....... since most of you feel like indians already ..... you guys will have no problem converting to indian's... I bet you will welcome the indian army with flowers when they march on your capital city and take down nepali flag and put up indian flag..... ya'll will be the first ones to clap in joy..... hoina ra????? as for you PADE QUEEN...... maybe you were too little to remember the days before multiparty democrazy... nepal did survive without the help of india....... nepalis had learnt to spare things that they used everyday... there were alternatives for everything.. yes we can still survive, even if we close our borders with dhotiland...

Gorkhali-X, Yeah! I remember the 'Dhoti' Economic Embargo days. Cooking oil, Petrol, diesel's price had skyrocketed. People had to stand on lines to get SUGAR, GAS etc., etc. Our people had a very tough year. OK! if you close down all the borders with India, do you have any alternate suggestions? Where will all the neccessary commodities come from? CHINA I suppose. We'll bring all stuffs from SHANGHAI via TIBET.Is such option feasible? Also remember we have millions of nepalis staying and working in India, and they are doing good there. If India decides to send more than 1 crore people of Neaplie origin back home then what you will do? Will you provide them employment? KHANA, LATTA-KAPADA & SHELTER? Also most of us except people of Tibetan origins and few others are of DHOTI origin. Newars, Bahun, Chetri can trace their roots to some part of the Indian Subcontinent. Likewise, Gurung and other ethnic people must have migrated from some Northeast part of India (my own hypothesis, please correct me if i'm wrong). the language which most of us speak, Nepali, whatever you might say is PAHADI HINDI. It is an offshoot of hindi. We go to CHARDHAM -Kedarnath, Badri,Prayag, in India to seek our gods. I have seen in Panauti, the newar kings had made the CHARDHAM right on the banks of a small river flowing in Panuati, so their subjects didnot have to travel all the way to India. There is political boudary between Nepal and Indial, otherwise, I see none. Lastly, pleawse enlighten me SIR, how we can survive without INDIA?

Well, Nepali culture and Indian culture have so much in common but that doesnt neccessarily mean that we have to absorb everything that India does.I don't mind what people listen to OR what rocks their boat. Its solely their decision..and right to choose..but it also doesnt mean that you diss something thats yours and favor something thats been imported. I also hate when people know so much abt foreign culture but fail to know anything about their own roots.and call themsevles Nepali..I hate that and if I had my way, I would seize their citizenship and stamp "NOT NEPALI" on their forehead but again who am I...its their decision..let them do what they feel like..but I wish they wold think.. anyway, lets root for nepali music/culture...rather than going high on foreign stuffs

"what if india decides to come and take nepal like it did Sikkim in the 70's ,.... do you people still want to dance to bhangra ...... they have already hijacked our music, culture and everything and replaced it with theirs...." NO, gorkhali they have not. ON what basis are you saying that? IT is us, who have faiiled to commercialze our music and movies like indians do and have lost our own costumers. At last we need to realize this is all bussiness. So do not blame them for doing bussiness. IF we cud have done the same thing with nepali movies and songs, imagine indians watching nepali movie. Wudnt that be great?

I agree to disagree with you,Casey00, Indian culture is not a foreign culture - it might annoy you but we cannot deny our Indian roots . Whoever does is on a self-denial mode and does not want to face the truth. Did Dasain originate in Nepal? Did Tihar? Did Holi? Did our national dress? Basically, the only original Nepali culture is the Newari culture - their AKHI JYAL and other stuffs are so unique. Still the Newar civilization could not negate the Indian influence. As I have written above you can trace each and every Newar dieties to India including Gorakhnath and Machindranath. Yes! we have Tama and Gundruk, our original food, however, it won't surprise me if we can find their roots in some part of Northeastern India. Also we falsely state that The Buddha had his roots in Nepal. He is called Nepalese. For god's sake The Buddha was not a Nepali. At that time where was Nepal? The KTM valley was called Nepal. And certainly The Buddha was not born in KTM valley. It's by serendipity that Buddha's birthplace is today within Nepal's political boundary.

Pade_Queen_1 It feels like you are contradicting yourself.First of all , may I ask, how do you define the term "foreign"? For me, foreign is something thats not a part of me Or stuffs that has been imported. However, like you said if we TRACE our roots then we are probably going to end up in 3 races. Mongoloid, Negroid and Caucasian. So, it is evident that in SOME ways were related to each other. Likewise Nepali culture & Indian culture have huge resembalance given the fact that geographically they are next to each other. Having said that it doesnt mean whatever we have has been imported from India. You said NEWARI is only Nepal's pure culture..Ok..I dont think it is even close to being right. You are totally negating a significant number of people/ethinicty from Nepal whose roots trace them back to Mongolia. yes, I agree that certain types of people in Nepal(esp bahuns, chettris) have huge ties to India..and I agree with that but when you make comments like we ALL belong to Northeastern Indian then it doesnt make sense. Correct me if I am wrong but I feel you are concluding on something based on waht you see in KTM...Newars are one of many ethicity in Nepal..they are one of the unique ones but also accept the fact that there are alson tons of other ethicity who are totally unique in their own rights. As far as I know..Dasai Tihar is part of HIndi culture...it dint come from India..its came from Religion About Buddha comment..Ok there was no India, no Nepal, no nothing when Buddha was born. I agree. But where Buddha was born belongs to Nepal NOW so you can say that Buddha was born in current Nepal hence he can be called a Nepali...I think its justifiable.I hate it when Indians say Buddha was born in India or wahtever... Anyway, dont get offended by what I said. thats what I think..I for one dont want to sell my dignity to bigger and stronger country. As a Nepali, I would ike to be known as Nepali but nothing else. When we say wahtever we have is from India then its like inferiortity complex ..I can say that both India and Nepal have been influenicing each other..maybe more on our side...but after all said and done, Indians still stick to their roots..still listen to their "MUSIC" and still talk loudly in obnoxious hindi lang..meaning they are proud of what they are...and on our side..we still need to do some work. adios

Phew what a heated conversation I'm all sweatin'. Some people are superpatriotic... People there's absolutely nothing you can do about the influence of other cultures unless you enfore a taliban kinda regime where they chop your hands off for playing volleyball and poke your eyes for watching TV. I mean there's nothing you can do to escape the indian influence. Even Pakistan which is the enemy of India is influenced by the Indian Culture. I had a friend from Kazakastan who knew all about Amitab Bachan Salman Khan et all. Now if you think about it, the American Influence is spreading all over the world thanks to hollywood. Have you ever watched the Korean channel that comes on dish network? I mean they have boy bands, rappers who dress up like black people I mean there's nothing bad in doing that. And FIY there many clubs in US and Canada that play Bhangra music. Art and culture has no boundaries unless you enforce it yourself. Bottomline if you don't like Indian influence, then that's your problem. PS: If you're counting on China to help nepal, then forget it. India is our stronger ally than China. And you know why? Because we share more common things with India than with China. Don't blame India for the mistakes that the king, the politicians and maobadis are making in Nepal. Let Peace prevail in Nepal like Buddha envisioned.

alllllll i say is fuk the indian as well as nepali poiliticians,,,and stop bihari style,,rest of the india is fine,,rest of nepal is fine,,,most of the people on both sides are good, just that some people in between, connecting two bodies have , have screwed up everything,,so screw girija, screw all those nepali leaders who passed 10th std. (equiv to 16th std in nepal)...then both countries can live without any hard feelings for each other...none of the people decided any bad stuffs for each others ,,it is the shit leaders who brought about all those things..after all buddha spent the equal share of his life in both the countries..

....DHOTI.......ummmm !!! ......take off the smelly panty of your small and twisted brains, folks, you will see a lot more and alot interesting stuff. Besmirching 40% of your own people down in south (terai) does not make you a nepali but simply a pahadi bigot not confident of the strength of their own culture. Remember, if you like others, the others will as well.

Pade_Queen_1 you worte, "For god's sake The Buddha was not a Nepali. At that time where was Nepal?" I agree that at that time Kapilbastu didn't belong to Nepal. But if you want to argue on this point then there was no India until British fully took over and brought all the kingdoms together. So would you say that Indus Valley civilization took place in India even though that region of the sub-continent falls in Pakistan?

Humans are prone to the POPular-Culture. I don't believe in a democracy, ones interest can be suppressed. But I guess THE TOPIC of this THread Stresses more on THE IDENTITY than anything else. Whether or not the Author of this thread meant to pertain the IDEA of nEEDs to PRESERVE our Identity, I would like to Stress More on that. As long as we preserve our identity, I believe we can enjoy any culture-food-language-anything. And having said that: WHAT is OUR IDENTITY?? AND how do we preserve it?? and on the Contrary: Does our Identity has anything to do with out choices? what about the changing (globalizing) world? Or, DOES our identity has any importance at all?? Why not discuss these issues first. For an instance, if we dress like someone else, if we eat like someone else, if we play like someone else, if we celebrate the festivals like someone else...... etc.. then what are we?? are we them or are we ourselves?? how can you justify?? ...... I am just trying to develop the discussion here. what do you think? Jai NEpal
