Hi buddha4peace Per my understanding, this year NANC plans on combining the Dasain and Tihar celebrations halfway between Dasain and Tihar. Reasons being, the nepali community in the SF bay and surrounding areas have grown tremendously and each city or community is planning to celebrate amongst their own. NANC does not want to organize a gathering with a weak turnout, therefore decided they will postpone it for the near future. If you need further information please visit the NANC website or contact one of the officials listed on that page. Happy Dasain to you. Going to a monastery for prayer and medidation doesn't sound too bad of an idea either. Maybe you'll celebrate dasain with the heavenly bodies ;)

Thank you NKT2. If evryone is doing "their thing" from each city then they should make it public, post in the the NANC website to let everyone know about these functions or activities. I hope it is not by" invitation only" thing. There is nothing about this year's Dasain or Tihar in NANC website. The website has no information about upcoming events either. I wonder if everyone is taking a LOOOOONG break after wonderful kathmandu night :-) Going to a quiet place tops above all, since Dasain is a social function I would like to celebrate Dasain among fellow Nepalese. If possible and that is a big IF.

NKT2, Sorry for the above comments. I was looking at the wrong section of NANC website. For some reason I was automatically in the "archive" section rather than the home page. I just realized my mistake. I feel stupid. I will be at the Livermore temple for the pooja than go to monastery for meditation :-)
