He was not Chinese, he was Korean and not on F1. He had green card. Read the following. The Virginia Tech Police Department has confirmed the identification of the gunman responsible for the multiple fatalities at Norris Hall on the Virginia Tech campus Monday. The individual has been identified as Cho Seung-Hui, 23. Cho was enrolled as an undergraduate student in his senior year as an English major at Virginia Tech. Cho, a South Korean native, was in the U.S. as a resident alien with a residence established in Centerville, Va. Source: www.vt.edu

This is from MSNBC. A federal law enforcement official said Tuesday he had been told by other federal law enforcement officials that the two guns recovered in the shooting had had their serial numbers scraped off. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the information had not been announced. A law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the information had not been announced, said Cho was carrying a backpack that contained receipts for a March purchase of a Glock 9 mm pistol.

I had a hunch that it was a Korean when they mentioned Asian. I don't mean to stereotype, but from my experience, most (not all) Koreans are a bit rough kinda ppl compared to Chinese and Japanese.

C'mon Imi, Hanging a dead body is not going to prove or solve anything. What's been done is done, we cannot change anything. As sad as it is, I would like to know what caused this rampage ? Heard there were two shooters on the news this AM(according to VTECH PRES). It would be sickening to see if this were people trying to mirror the Columbine Incident. My heart goes out to all the innocent people affected by this.

The irony is The lobbist bastards of NRAs headoffice is in fairfax right off I-66. well ..come to think of it ..Movies like Grindhouse really makes believe some psychos that killing people is fun! Well. if something is not done with this gun control some one in future will repeat this kind of thing again and again. Unnecessarily 30 future engineers lost their life because of this psycho. hanging his body ..hmmm .. well not going to really prove a point i was just being sentimental:(.

I would definately point my fingers to the gun advocates there. If you look at the news recently .. the gun violence has almost doubled since the Clinton era. I mean in BOSTON alone close to 60 have died this yr due to gun violence... and its only APRiL 2007(have not even half yr mark yet). As long as people have easy access to guns ... this is not going to stop. ITs obvious all the restrictions, and background checks are not working. This brings an interesting point to my mind totally off the subject. Nepal is a very good example of what guns to a society. If you look at Nepali society prior to 1990.... we were virtually free of gun violence. YEah there were scufles on the streets but it always ended up in a fist fight(SHINGALL SHINGALL) or worse it could be was a knife fight(Chura). JUST LOOK AT THE AMOUNT OF NEPALI BEING KILLED BY NEPALI SINCE GUNS BECAME ACCESABLE TO PEOPLE. VIOLENCE HAS REACHED TO A POINT WHERE WE AS NEPALI PEOPLE HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE IN OUR HISTORY.

That's why I say film makers, book authors, essayists, short story writers etc should be responsible creaters about what they create. The Great Shakespeare when he wrote would set an opposition bad against good and in the end and good would emerge as victorious and thereby relay a moral. After all, he was the one who quoted "All's well that ends well" Movies like Natural Born Killers, violent video games likes Scarface, Mortal Combat should be kept away from young people's reach. People glorifying infidelity should be barred from publishing. Remember Gandhi said SEE NO EVIL HEAR NO EVIL SPEAK NO EVIL His words reverberates to this day yet people are turning a deaf ears to them. The current lawmakers seem to have definitely misinterpreted the Amendments of the constitution. Therefore, it is easier to buy real guns than fake ones. I believe, VT had a very poor Emergency Management in place if they had one even after 9/11 and Columbine High. Hopefully the Homeland Security will realize that source of terrorism can stem from anywhere not just from International students or their home countries. Hail to the NRA chief Charleston Heston, I guess. Here he is in his regular prized photo-op.

Mr/Ms Disco: Interesting point! "More guns = More gun death and injury" as suggested by the Article content in the following link: http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:GTi_1xmUklAJ:www.guncontrol.ca/Content/TheCaseForGunControl.html+%22gun+control%22+USA+canada+violence+statistics&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=us OR

This incident proves one person can kill dozens on his own with a couple of semiautomatic hand guns. Does this validate or negate arguments regarding the June 2001 masacre in Kathmandu? Any thoughts?

When I read 'Asian shooter' in 'Virginia'? I thought too (just like Xena did) one of the Korean bastards could be the perpetrator since I heard that there are over 100,000 people from that country in Virginia alone. The Chinese students are more self centered, simple, studious, frugal with money left alone buy so much ammunitions and guns. The Japanese are quiet and gentler from my experience. I do not support stereotyping either but there are certain inherent nature or psyche in every culture that one should be aware of. Anyways, the issue of gun control has risen again according to this article.

I suggest Sajha friends to avoid places (until this incident settles down) where they hate people with oriental faces. Remember that Sikh guy at a gas station who was shot at point blank after the 9/11 incident as evident that the shooter took the poor Sikh victim for a Muslim.

Good thoughts/viewpoints in your earlier post mR. hydE. When incidents such as VT happen at a frequent rate the time will soon come where people will be less terrified to see/hear/do such wrong-doings.

It was just a pschyo on the loose--it has NOTHING to do with Koren being "rough" kinda people. You can be "rough" but it takes more than that 'roughness' to go on a killing spree and kill that many people!

Friends I agree it's not about the cultural settings. Just remember that the guy had been here for more than a decade. He had his schooling here - his friends, families and other acquaintances were here. I believe that nationality should not be brought in such cases as this one. He was a one seriously ill individual who, must probably escaped to gather human values and other consciences during his studies. The last thing he needed was a machine capable of destroying many lives and Virginia gun rules enabled him to have not just one but two. Last thing: It's not exclusive to Vtech rather it can happen at your University to your loved ones. Its time to give up the gun rights - at least tighten the rules. May 2008 elections raise this issue.

hYDE, Your Comment withstanding, The Swiss with 7 million people have hundreds of thousands of fully-automatic rifles in their homes (see GunCite's "Swiss Gun Laws") and the Israelis, until recently, have had easy access to guns (brief summary of Israeli firearms regulations here). Both countries have low homicide rates Source: http://www.guncite.com/gun_control_gcgvinco.html Seems like there are factors at play wich is more than the black and white playfield of More guns= more death, it is more in the head, it becomes a social/cultural problem of institutinalising cho's sort of people or to have the incentive for it, something as an example, that works against ACLU (but for utilitarian purpose) for the professors to detect in the writing for potential perpetrators to avoid such Clombine and Vtech evil in the society.
