It's been a while I am wondering how's the brain of Republicans wired? 200 years ago they needed self protection and they have gun rights. Now we have various agencies to protect us and we do not need assault rifles.

You are ok with the US govt bombing countries resulting in deaths of millions of innocent people world wide. Why don't you raise your voice against that too if you want to protest against mass shootings that kill few dozen. Millions versus hundreds.
The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun. Sad, but absolutely true. More responsible citizens need to carry. Period.

Why general people need semi-automatic rifles?
One in five adults and one in 9 teens has some kind of mental illness, why republicans do not think mental ill people should not get any short of gun specially semi-automatic rifles?
A bad guy can shoot from anywhere and by the time good guy finds bad guy, many lives would be lost. So no, a good guy cannot stop a bad guy with a gun.

I still support open gun laws, but there are many situations where mass shooting have not been stopped by a lone person carrying a pistol. The pistol carrier seems to be the first one to run off. Also, the mass shooter already come with few ARs with ammunition, safety vest and other protection so no one in right mind wanna fight off.
I have few suggestions seeing so many mass shootings
- screen the individual mental health
- gun license should be regulated and there should be age restrictions; not 18 should be 21
- stop the bullying culture and encourage schools administrators to take swift actions
- signs of depression, addiction, drugs, mental issues, loner, weird, postings and images online should be reported to authorities . Family should intervene with counseling other mediums if there are signs of mental distress

Rockb, Tell me one thing. why other countries have such a low gun violence and US has such a high gun violence? You don't think other countries have mental health issue? Other countries have bullying issue?
It's the abundance of gun problem. No other time in history or no countries in the world a general population have so much gun. Mental ill people were there thousands of years ago and will be here thousands of years after also. Don't blame mental health for a problem which is so obvious.

@sajhamitra would you research the gun shootings in the US and see what causing it? All of them directs to bullying and harassment in schools so they are targeting the schools. Also mental health could be other reason as well. US is very diverse geographically. In the remote part of US, there ain’t no police station. So the individuals have to protect themselve. Also in bigger cities such as Chicago and NY city, there are so many illegals guns, you could never get off from criminals. Ni would still want bipartisan bills to enforce stronger background check, registration, mental health status to renew guns and such. You know mental health can snap in a blink of eye so the families have responsibility to make sure everything is OK. Further, the purchase of AR 15 staple rifle and heavy ammunition should be recorded like a pain pill . For example you can buy so much in a month or so.

There are many many countries in the world who has far far worse countries in the world who has far more problem and severe problem than US. Dude, you are talking about one of the most developed countries in the world. You are still pointing to side problem not the actual problem. It's the abundance of Guns where it's extremely easy to get a gun. Also, regarding your idea of AR-15. Give me a reason why anyone needs a AR-15 beside fighting in battle field? How can you expect 8 billions people in this world living with right mind. Few of them will have mental health issues always. Ofcourse , we can't eliminate mass shooting 100% with any it greatly helps to reduce it.
Here is an example. If we don't have law of seatbelt, imagine how many people would die everyday. Your argument would say its people responsibility to drive the car carefully but they don't. Some people are careful, some are careful, some are evil etc.
I am not saying mental health is not an culprit but that's not the main culprit. Illegal guns will go away ultimately not in a day or two but years or decades but not unless people like Gary Abbott who advocates supply of gun. You have to start somewhere.
Those who are saying "Guns don't kill people, people kills people". Yes true but it makes 100x easier for people to people with guns.
It's okay to own guns if you want but do not let psycho and people with mental health easy access.
