DV-2027 registration reportedly opens Nov 1 - what should first-timers in Nepal prepare?

Original Post DV Lottery Help Translate to Nepali
· 130 views

Namaste! I keep hearing that this year's DV lottery registration is expected to open around Nov 1. My younger brother is in Kathmandu and wants to enter for the first time. Since the instructions change every year, for those who entered recently: does he need a valid passport before entering, and how strict really is the photo (size, background, glasses)? He wants to prepare everything himself instead of paying an agent who promises a guaranteed selection. Also - one entry per person, and submitting twice can cancel all of them, correct? Any advice from people who did it last cycle is appreciated. Thank you!

Follow-up for everyone waiting like my brother: registration still has not opened. The appeals court paused the order that would have forced the State Department to open it by Nov 1, so that date is off the table for now and no new dates are out.He is not sitting idle though - passport is valid and photos are already done to spec. Two things I learned preparing: the entry itself now costs $1, and they ask for a scan of the main applicant's passport, both new this cycle. The page we are following to track it, since it lays out the whole process and keeps repeating that dvprogram.state.gov is the only real site (there are plenty of lookalikes eating people's money): https://uscis.love/en/dv-2027I will report here the day the entry actually goes through.
