2 months ago I posted that I’d built a web browser in Nepal.
I expected a few likes. Instead, thousands of you shared it, downloaded it and sent me honest feedback.
So I went back and rebuilt almost all of it. 🧵
Pako Browser 4.0 is out today. 🌿
Here’s what changed:
A completely new look. It has a sidebar rail and floating tabs, and every animation is smoother.
🐻 Meet Bhotu, our AI assistant. Type ? in the address bar and ask anything. It’s built into the browser, so there’s no extension to install.
A home page made for Nepal. It shows weather, NPR exchange rates, markets, festivals, your notes and the sites you visit most, all on one screen.
Fully in Nepali. Every page and setting is available in Nepali, not just a translated menu.
Safer by default. It’s built on Chromium 156, has a one-click Safety Check, blocks ads and verifies its own updates.
Updates itself. If you’re on an older version, Pako will update you automatically.
People keep asking me: “Why build a browser when Chrome exists?”
Because the tools we use every day should understand where we’re from: our language, our currency, our festivals. Nobody else was going to build that for us.
This is built in Nepal, for Nepal and for anyone who wants a browser that feels personal again.
