Oh Thanks Detroit in routing Yankees. I could not believe when I saw the final score.

Verlander rolls behind Tigers' 16 runs
Righty wins 14th as Detroit takes three of four from New York
By Tim Kirby / MLB.com

Tigers Headlines

DETROIT -- This is how a team gets a roll.

Justin Verlander was dominant over seven innings and the Tigers pounded Mike Mussina and the rest of the Yankees' pitching staff in a 16-0 win on Monday night at Comerica Park.

The Tigers took three of four games from the Yankees, marking the first time Detroit won a series in its last 11 tries. The Tigers last won a series on July 17-19 in a three-game sweep over the Twins. It was also the first time the Tigers won back-to-back games since beating the A's twice on Aug. 11-12.

Manager Jim Leyland said that the easiest way for the Tigers to break out of their August funk was to get good outings from their starting pitchers. Verlander certainly did that on Monday. His fastball topped out at 99 mph, but he also mixed his offspeed pitches in one of his best starts of the season. He allowed three hits -- all of them singles -- over seven shutout innings in earning his 14th win of the season.

The offense backed up Verlander with nine hits and six runs against Mussina by the end of the third. Brandon Inge and Curtis Granderson each had an RBI double, and all but two players in the starting lineup had a hit off Mussina, giving the Tigers a 6-0 lead after just three innings. Mussina was done after three innings and 72 pitches.

The Tigers also roughed up the Yankees' bullpen after Mussina exited. Sean Casey hit his first triple in more than three years. Casey's triple off Sean Henn in the fifth was his first since Aug. 13, 2004, a span of 417 games.

The Tigers scored eight runs off Henn in all and tallied at least one run in each of the first five innings. Inge hit a three-run double in the Tigers' six-run seventh.

The 16 runs were the most the Tigers have scored this season. It was the highest-scoring game for the Tigers since they scored 18 agains the Twins last April.

Finally a win for the Yankees. Even if Yankees wins tonite, there is not much hope since Sabathia and Carmona would be avail for Game 5. Yankees bats look old n tired against Young Guns like Sabathia and Carmona.

Today Yankees need to use same formula like yesterday. Yankees were to able to rally after Matsui hustle to beat the throw at 1st base. They need to be patient and let the Byrd throw a pitch or two high that guys can hit left part of the field...

I don't know what would be worse for Yankees fans like me.... to loose against Indians in ALDS or getting swept by Red Sox in ALCS.

I was hoping for a history yesterday - all sweeps in the playoffs.

 My wishes were not granted.

Heard O Rod is moving to Chicago.

I wanted to see many changes in the Yankees organization. I guess I will have to wait.

>>> Yes you will see a whole lotta different team next year whether they loose to Indians tonite or not. I see golden era ending in Yankees history... It ‘s sad there was no No. 52 strolling around the center field and next year few others may not be back with the team. If it was not that HR DJ hit in Baltimore, I would not be discussing Baseball today.

I turst in Cashman. I wish he had the same authority long time ago. The Yankees Farm Systems is one of the best in the league. Almost all the Yankees minor teams made it to playoffs in 07. While I am sad to see Yankees legends fading away but at the same time I am excited about new Yankees gems like Wang, Cano, Joba, Hughes, Kennedy, Rasner and Cabrera. They will reign the Yankees Stadium years to come….

The way Red Sox and Yankees are strengthening their farm systems I see Red Sox and Yankees will playing for AL East title for long time to come.

AX

Who knows that change might be tonight.

Though early in the game, the Tribes seem to have a good comand. Wang did not even last two innings.

It seems Yankees in 1997 won the game 8-6 to Indians with the similar score of 6-1 in the bottom of 4th. O Rod just his a base hit.

Yankees now swinging early.

I started disliking Joba Chamberlain since he tried to hit Kevin Youkilis on his head twice.

Thanks those Canadian soldiers that bugged Joba and threw a wild pitch and tied the game with Indians.

Hey Capt.

Salaam Sir !

I did not want Red Sox to face Yankees. I know the ALCS game may not be that interesting without Yankees....

He he ... although I was listening to a commentary on the radio this morning where the commentator argued given the recent performance of the Indians and Yankees, the Indians might be the harder team to beat. I figured either way, it's two good team to beat. But I guess there is a fear/comfort factor involved in not having to play the Yankees at all

Thats true Capt.

The Yankees have banged up pitching staff where as the Indians have Carmona and Sabathia.

Indians and Rockies are the teams to beat this year.

Capt.

There was a survey conducted by one of the local channels if Red Sox preferred Indians or Yankees. Only 23% responded in favor of Yankees. So you can

Indians just eliminated Yankees. Posada out. Final score 6-4 Indians.

Lets see the changes now.

Capt.

Let me complete the previous sentence.

There was a survey conducted by one of the local channels if Red Sox preferred Indians or Yankees as opposing team for ALCS. Only 23% responded in favor of Yankees. So you can figure out the mental status of Red Sox fans. Indians are definitely tougher opponents.

Congrants Indians...the histories did not repeat.

See ya in Fenway, Boston.

Wow, I don't get to see the games for a couple of games, and the yanks are out .. too bad !!

Oh well, I think we did give a good fight in regular season though. Managing to get back from 14 and a 1/2 to 1 game difference proved what being a Yankee is all about !! ... But Indians just proved to be better in those 3 games ! Its again the defense that let us down, but what the F happened to our offense in game 2 ? We should have had that game !!!!!!

Good luck Bosox, Good luck Indians, Good luck Diamondbacks, and Good luck Rockies ...

As for me, This years baseball is over !!!

Will miss Joe Torre though, 13 consecutive playoffs is no joke !

~!~ Adios ~!~

After seeing Yankees and Red Sox playoffs performance, I am rooting for Salary Cap system. At lest they will be more comptetitive :=)

After Yankees collapse, I really don't care who wins the World Series. Being AL follower, I rather want AL team to win the series....

freak, what you think about AROD? Is he going to opt out? how about other long time Yankees???

AX jee ,

Although, I rather not talk in this thread, cause the topic is so damn stupid, considering the fact that detroit didnt even make it to the playoffs , anyways. .. to answer you, i dont know !

seriously, I hope he doesnt opt out, but even if he does, I think Steinbrenners got enough money to buy him back. So hopefully he stays a bronx bomber !!

about MO, Posada .. I really want them to stay more than I want A-Rod, cause truthfully, they were wearing the pin-stripes since forever, but then I  would be a fool to choose them and not A-Rod, hehe :)

I want Torre to stay more than anything, cause if he does - MO and Posada are back in, and like I said Steinbrenner can easily buy back A-God !!

I though I wasnt gonna follow the games after yankees exit as well, but then who doesnt wanna follow the rockies and their 22 out of 23 run, besides went to this bahstan fan's place the day there was 7 runs scored in the 11th, got hooked on since

That's the nature of the game. A team that would not make to play offs beat a team like Yankees, who came back to be in October after trailing for 14 and 1/2 games. The unpredictable nature and probabilities make them interesting to watch and be associated haina ra !

And all the empires are bound to fall !

So, the topic is not stupid as you think

I heard ARod is moving to Chicago with some ownership options.

sounds like freak wants same old Yankees again next season. I am tired of them losing.... I must have already lost 2 years of my life after watching Yankees falter in postseason past 7 seasons. I want them all back if these overpaid idiots’ guarantee to play for 1.5 million in salary for their last season. Bernie did it and I want these guys to do the same….. If these guys want to play other teams, more power to them……. Yankees will be more fun to watch with their young guns

If AROD opts out and Yankees sign them back I will not watch their game again. And I am sure there will be thousands of other Yankees fans who feel the same way as I do..... That jacka$$ hasn't done anything in October and when it counts to get paid over $20 mil....... Yankees world is bigger than AROD....... let him play for Boston or Angels and if he does Yankees hurlers should target his head..... sick n tired of this fella..... I am sure this dude would even play for free if Derek Jeter sleeps with him.....

Regarding about this thread title, it should be posted in Yankees Locker Room to remind how bad they were

forgot to mention about Torre.... this old wimpy dude need to take play for the minimum salary lesson from Bernie Williams..... When Yankees made him the highest paid manager in baseball he couldn't bring the title..... may be making him the lowest paid manager would make him work harder.........
