I did not know Bijaya Kumar is running a program in Kantipur TV. If you haven't heard about it then here is the link.

This is an email I received recently from Kantipur Group.

*******************************************

Greetings from Kantipur Group!

Fist of all we would like to express our sincere gratitude to you for showing your kind interest to subscribe Kantipur TV. We are definitely encouraged by your response. Including you we have received more than 20,000-subscription interests from around the world. In spite of this huge demand and interest for a home country based media in the Diaspora community we have unfortunately not been able to serve this demand.

As you must be aware that the present Nepalese government has introduced new and unfair regulatory mechanisms because of which our entire international distribution plans have been severely affected. Hence our original plans to broadcast KTV world-wide has been indefinitely delayed.

But there is good news! Very Soon our popular portal is going to launch daily Kantipur Television News show and current affair programs in its site. There will be a one-hour daily prime time Nepali news called Kantipur Samachar which, presently has more than 90% viewership rating within Kathmandu Valley. The current affair shows (Talk Shows) namely Kantipur Bahas presented by Indra Lohani, Fireside by Bhusan Dahal and Frontline by Bijay Kumar Pandey are becoming the main platform for political debates and discussions. Extremely popular, these shows will help you understand the underpinnings of the Nepali political landscape. All of these are very soon going to be the part of our website www.kantipuronline.com.

We hope till the time we are able to bring a full time complete broadcast in your region this mechanism will help you to take benefit of our services in some ways.

We would appreciate to have your feedback.

Thanking you

Yes it was a total disaster. FIrst of all, Bijay Kumar used Hindi as a medium of communication where as Amitab used English.

Amitab was there to give a interview regarding upcoming film where as this dude kept on asking about corruption and poltics and Amitab just killed him in that interview.

He is just good to ask dumb questions to dumb people like the one ambassador who stole a book.

peace out

I was a kid when Vijay Kumar first hit the fame. Little did I know about the content of interviews he conducted most of which were political. But I remember my family members praising the guy for asking tough questions or asking questions toughly to political leaders. And later on growing up I watched several of this other interviews and his program “Deesha Nirdesh”.
My observation about him is, he showed some arrogance and toughness in his tone, not necessarily in the content of questions asked in interviews he conducted. This could have very well been a contribution of his personal attribute. And this was appealing to the then Nepalese audience. Nepalese audience overnight became fan of him just like a seventh grader becomes obsessed with a tough or popular guy in his class. Besides, television was fairly new in Nepal when he started his career and there were not that many journalists or journalists with contacts in Nepalese media. As a result he never had to develop professionalism, diplomacy, respect towards people he interviewed.

Mamta what nonsense are you saying? Do you think that 21 years girl cannot be a girlfriend of man of 45? Look at Padmalaxmi and Salman Rusdi. The age does not make any difference for man. I am also above 40 but still unmarried.

as far as vijay kumar is concerned, he is one of a kind. when i was in nepal, i've watched his programs. i felt he did a fair job at least on topics related to politics (and whatever i could understand on that front). but his pompous self was exposed when he conducted interviews with people who could not "dominate" him. a few months ago, i watched his disha-nirdesh (online) with some stars from nepal, namely karishma & rajesh hamal. what a difference! i felt he was "dominating" the poor gal with ridiculous questions like "bikini lagayera beach janu bhayena?" c'mon give me a break! on the other hand, he could not say much to rajesh. i think if he gets a chance to dominate, it shows in his programs. that's when he becomes hated.

in that interview with amitabh, his questions i think were in english but amitabh answered in shudhha hindi. (or was it the other way round?) anyway, i think his questions were longer than amitabh's answers. amitabh did not even smile throughout the interview. i think it was a very odd interview where there was no vibe between the two. besides i liked the way AB brushed aside the topic on rekha when vijay proceeded to ask about it.

have you guys observed martin bashir? he was voted as one of the worst britons. the more successful, the more comments. but i am not trying to imply here that i am a fan of vijay. i am not. i think he'd different.

Once I watched Bijay Kumar interviewing Amitab Bacchaan on Nepal Television while he was in KTM. Amitab thrashed him so bad with his answers
that later a comedian
played a caricature of Bijay kumar and
asks Amitab, "Aaap ko Nepal Television kaiseee lagaa ?"
Amitab answers, " Baahut aaachee hai kuii ki saab staff loag aap jaisee bachaee haii"

Have any of you watched the Brian O'reiley Factor on Foxnews? It's also available on internet. I used to watch his program regularly, and he'd ask questions quite straight, and even cut off the phone if he didn't like another person's answer. He still exists in foxnews. It's fun watching his program but won't be that fun being interviewed by him.

gwayjo,
its not BRIAN O"REILY its bill o'reily and he is one arrogant person. (O: i.e. o'reily of the factor ..
he is a very opionionated person who is not willing to listen to views from other side. He would be calling names and defaming people if they do not agree with him. Just like bush and cheney polities. i.e. the politics of karl rove.
Did you see about the way he covers for Dick cheney and scott libbey about the CIA agent name leak? I clearly remember him calling, that UN inspector[an american], a traitor for saying that IRAQ did not have nuclear weapons and the uranium tubes bought from south africa does not match the requirements for the tubes used in the production of nuclear weapons. anyway if he had been nonpartisan i am sure he would have been great.
if you want to know how micheal moore thrashed him on reinterview pls go through the transcript.
http://www.drudgereport.com/dnc4.htm

Now getting back to Bijaya Pandey,
i disliked the way he organized 1991 debate of late MK Bhandari and Krishna Bhattarai. i could figure out that he was a true congresee favoring Mr KP Bhattarai and trying to trounce MK Bhandari. As always Madan bhandari thrashed him and i believe this interview was a deciding factor for his win in Kathmandu.

=====================================================
as always,
what do i know ? (O:

Though I have not watched his show on television and do not have in depth knowledge about Nepali politics ,but while watching some episodes of Disahnirdesh on the net I felt this guy asks frivolous questions and tries to hog the interview scene. Two conclusions:
-Attitude problem.
-Intimidating.

My mistake in writiing the name. However, it's fun to see his program sometime. It gives us entertainment and the mean time, tells us not to believe all the crap that we see or hear in news.
P.S. you spelled my name incorrectly too. :p

Hmmm...

In western world, after being well-known personality, they hide their appearances by wearing black sunglassses, but in a country like Asia, they rather remove their pre worn black sunglasses to get recognition.

Aba bhannu hosh what impression I have gotten from Bijay Kumar, then!!!

" My observation about him is, he showed some arrogance and toughness in his tone, not necessarily in the content of questions asked in interviews he conducted."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, he did the same with Amitabh Bachchan too.

विजय कुमार: अमिताभ जी, आपने फिल्मि करियर कवसे शुरु की ? (consider his unnecessary arrogance and toughness in his tone here... that irritates Amitabh)
अमिताभ (cool): विजय बेटे, ..........सालसे ।बहुत साल हो गये, शायद उस वक्त तो तुम पैदा ही नहीँ हुएथे (smile)!!
These are not the exact lines of conversation, but Bachchan answered all his questions this way. For me (not necessarily for all), it was funny !

I watched one of his programmes to find that I used to like him to some extent when I was back home. I don't know how good or bad he treats to other persons in real life, but he has his own style of taking interview that is appreciated by many people. Making your own mark is important in a professional career, not many people are able to do that, he did and hence the buzz- positive and negative. He might not be a gifted interviewer like Larry King or Tim Sebastian or David Frost, but than he is one of the best in the business in Nepal. You got to accept that. About arrogance thing, when you have something special up in your sleeve, you tend to be arrogant. He might have been arrogant with some of his guests, but the Amitabh kanda has shown that his charisma shades when he has to face with people who are more famous than him.

The problem may occur with any great interviewer sometimes, depending upon the charisma and shrewdness of the interviewee. Most of the times, interviewers are dominant, sometimes they are dominated. In political interviews, the interviewer take chances to pressure the guests to reveal his flaws. Sometimes, this will lead to apparent arrogance. As far as I recall, he interrupts the guest more than needed, he talks about himself when not needed-like maile esto gareko thiye, usto gareko thiye, becomes cheesy; not in all interview though. Apart from that he sounds fine and confident. Don't know more about his journalistic credentials anyways. People are famous for good and bad reasons. One hates or loves you -either for your appreciation or for jealousy- love or hate - both could be either way.
