Cant believe Indians perfomring superbly in cricket these days. Historic Test win over World champion Aus 2-0 and now insulting England in ODIs (already 2-0)......

So what do u think? Are Indians finally replacing Aussies in world Cricket? I would love to see this happening...

Scorecard looks funny. England Scored 12 runs more than India and Still lost the game by 19 runs.

I think England were really unlucky in this match.   India played about 16-17 overs of Power Play that is only 2 to 3 fielders outside the 30 yard circle. which they took advantage of.

England I guess only had about 8 overs of power play because Duckworth and Lewis system doesnot take account of power plays. So most of the match England had to bat with all the field outside the circle.

NO, ur arguement is true but u still have consider some other factors. had the game been reduced before the start obviously india would have started differently then they did. they would try to score runs quickly. thats why this D/L system is in effect so that there will fair balance in team. they played 17 overs before the rain stoped and they were playing on their game plan. but after the rain stopped the game they had just 5 overs to play with. and remember and they still had 9 wickets to fall. so think with 9 wickets in hand for next 33 odd overs india would have been well pass 350+ scores. so its unfair to say england was unlucky.

aingnam. I am not talking about why Indian Score was raised to 198 by D/L . Its fair.

I am just takling about that England didn't get same amount of power play as India did. India had chance to bat about 16-17 overs with fielding restriction. Weird thing about Duckworth Lewis system is it doesnot take account of power plays. Thats why England only batted about 8 overs with fielding restriction compared to 16-17 overs by India.  Only thing fair would have been Even england would given same number of overs with fielding restrictions.

England got 2 overs of batting powerplay which India did not got. England were given 6 overs of usual powrplay too. India got 8 overs befor ethe rain interrupted. England started the  knowing that it will be 22 overs match  but India started the game having 50 overs match.

So, looking the balance, I think  India  did not get any sort of advantage over their opponent. They win the game only beacuse of their 60 runs which they socred in 5 overs after the rain interrupted. That turned the game. The best part of the game was the power hitting India did in that 5 overs, thanks to their IPL experience.

This is just a statistical review as I do not understand the D/L method.

gyanguru. Its not only about powerplay. There is also mandatory fielding restrictions in one day matches. Don't forget that. And when first rain interupted the match was set for 44 overs i think and India still played few more overs with fielding restrictions. We had similar discussion in the BBC cricket thread.

As written in the rule book which I just saw yesterday  D/L rule doesnot take account of powerplay because it adds too much of mathematical complexity. But yesterday's match should be an eye opener.

NQ! what are you talking dude?if you had watched the whole yesterday's match, you would have never said so.England managed only 21 runs in their 1st and 2nd powerplays(21 runs in initial 6 overs)RR =3.5, a real pathetic start for the series decider.the game was almost T20.how do you say about the starting runrate 3.5 in their powerplay overs? infact England had no clue for the indian opening pace attack.

Unisom. Its not that how many england scored in powerplay. Ian Bell is no hitter by any stretch of imagination using most of the powerplay. I am only talking about fair distribution of fielding restrictions. Many people had a lot of discussion in BBC sport site. It is generally been the thought of most of the people.

I am taking nothing away from Indian victory but I was merely insinuating to the fact that a more complex D/L is needed to account for change.

so u mean to england should have given whole 19 or 20 powerplay over. its does not make sense NQ. if the game is reduced then obviously the powerplay should be reduced. whatever i really dont get this D/L method but india is a great team. was, is and always be a great supporter of indians. and the end of the win is all that matters. india up 4-0, if they dont change their team it might be a clean sweep.

NQ, Powerplay was introduced long after D/L. But I kow there isnt room for any adjustment in D/L method regarding powerplay. But they do get powerplays based upon the number of overs allocated to play. Plus there is flelding restriction too in reduced over matches too, in proportional to the number of overs allocated too.

Do you think this england team is capable of winning anything in India ta the moment of the same set of Indian players keep playing? I doubt, and doubt even if Indian team gets some bench players. But, england are still afantastic team without a genuine opening batsman.

Indian players at this moment is playing at whole different level. They are almost the same team that has been playing since last 12 months but they seem to play as ateam and everyone is performing. I think its IPL and Dhoni effect, thats getting best out of the players.

I am not a big fan of Indian Cricket team but I have to agree that India are totally outplaying England this series. I feel they will clinch the series with a whitewash. I hate to say this but I have to admire the great game they are playing at the moment.

But it is something predicted. If you go back before the series quite  a few predicted as a whitewash.England has never been good at one day matches outside England.

India Vs England series must be cancelled.    The terrorist were singling out people from Britain and USA. It is best for the safety of traveling Britons.

England call off India tour

Cricinfo staff

November 27, 2008

England have called off their tour of India following a series of terrorist strikes in Mumbai since Wednesday evening, according to reports. While PTI quoted a BCCI official as saying that the entire tour has been called off, board sources who have been briefed about the ongoing discussions told Cricinfo that they were hopeful that the two-Test series will take place as scheduled from December 11.

"At this point of time, it is difficult to go ahead with the one-day tour, but we expect the ECB to take a call on the Test tour only later after it re-evaluates the security situation," the sources said.

PTI quoted a BCCI official as saying that England had "strong reservations" about continuing the tour of seven ODIs ending on December 2 followed by a two-Test series from December 11 to 24. "Since the England team has strong reservations of continuing with the tour, we have asked them to give it to us in writing," the official was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, AFP reported that the England team, which is currently in Bubhaneshwar, having lost the fifth ODI of the series, have already started packing their bags. An official announcement is expected shortly.

England's High Performance squad, which is currently training in Bangalore, is waiting for guidance from the British government on the future of its tour. The squad, which includes Michael Vaughan, Monty Panesar and Andrew Strauss, is scheduled to reach Mumbai on December 3 to play a practice game and train with the England Test squad. When asked about the squad's tour status, an ECB spokesperson said, "We are and continue to be guided by the British foreign office and await further guidance."

More to follow ...
