Who knows about Canadian Immigration?

I heard that it's easy and more precisely less time consuming than U.S immigration. On top it's not that expensive and most people from Nepal with 4 years degree plus some years of work experience do easily qualify?

Can you guys elaborate on this topic and help each other.

Thankx

Prem Dai,
I don't wants to discuss about we is right and how many % right coz it looks like getting mess here. I reason i wrote like this way is Dhoti Prasad was telling you are totally wrong in this matter. I am not trying to say that I am 100% right.........but each and every case for immigration is different.

You have mentioned that "Even Murderers/terrorists are coming to Canada through this channel. Not once, again and again same person came back to Canada, although he was deported. That's Canada... BLAME CANADA as in SOUTH PARK."

One of my friends applied for Canadian permanent residence and they ask him second time FBI reports and local police department police report. FBI reoprts was good but local police department reports says he had one time DWI voilation and they denied his case. If murderers and terrorists can go Canana again and again........how come they denied his case??? That's why i already mentioned that each and every immigration case is different. May be few murders and terrorists went to Canada but not all the terrorists can enter the Canada..........terrorists entered US too (people who supported for 9/11 they are not US citizenship........somehow they entered US.

Lambu Dai tapai le mero kura bhuje jasto cha and thank for your support.

Wel-wisher,
Sagun

Dear Hashpipe jee,

I asked to point out which 15% of my info is wrong? Now you are telling me that I am only 30% right? Birodh ko lagi birodh jasto chha ni?? :-)

Did I make any ignorant comment? tell me which one? But let's see what you told to this gruop?

" The reason why canadian immigration is attractive to people who qualify is because of the effectiveness of the system, you get Permanat Residence in a year, and after three years of living in Canada (without counting the days spent outside of canada), you will be eligible to apply for a canadian citizenship and then after 8 or 9 months, ........"

Are you sure what you said above? Permanent Residence in one year???? C'mon you or someone you know must have immigrated to Canada a decade ago. Those days are GONE.

And what makes you feel you are correct when you say "after living three years in Canada (without counting the days you spent outside of canada)" That's Totally Incomplete info you are giving here. Do you think PR can apply for citizenship if he lived in Canada in 1998, 2002, and 2004??? Can he apply immediately after year 2004 since this person lived fully 3 years in Canada.?

First, find the answer for this. The you better come back here to point out which 70% info of mine is wrong.

About murderers entering Canada again and again... there was an investigative news report by CBC.CA. The Canada Government could not refute it. In number of occasions, Canada had to deport the PRs. What do you say about that?

Don't mix your arguements here giving examples what happened in USA.. that's a separate discussion.

Senior Prem,
Yes, there was a little error on the information i gave out. You being a permanant resident cannot (i believe) live outside canada for a certain number of months in 2 or 3 years. But, my information was catering to nepali friends who wanted to become a permanant resident, get their citizenship, and get on with their life somewhere else which.. i think is the main reason for most nepalese permanant residents who have sucky jobs in canada.

Secondly, my friend who recently graduated with from a masters program from a univeristy in US recieved her work permit in a few months (4-5 months), and recieving their permanant residency in another several months. Like someone pointed out, it differs in different cases.

Thirdly, i did not start the issue between Canada and America. You yourself quoted 'That's Canada... BLAME CANADA as in SOUTH PARK' , and i am very sure you know how 'blame canada' in the movie 'South Park: longer bigger uncut' arises and how it leads to the Canadian american conflict.

and lastly, i don't know about that particular documentary.however on june 2002, canadian immigration introduced 'Immigration And Refugee Policy' changing its older policy from 1978 making it harder for terrorists to enter and claim refugee, so i don't know if that documentary was pre 2002 or post 2002. and So I wouldn't be sure say ,'Even Murderers/terrorists ARE coming to Canada through this .... (so on)Almost all the countries harboured terrorists pre sept 11, sept 11 send the governments from all the first world countries to check and tighten their immigration policy....

You are talking about a very special case... You never mentioned on what circumstances she got "work permit". It's not called work permit.. it's "Employment Authorization" Getting this EA is very rare...... And may I know how many months when you say "in another several months she got Permanent residence"? It could mean 2, 10, 36!!!!

Fellows,
You guys don't need to discuss all these. Its simple. You can ask someone like me who lived there for little over 2 years.
Haspipe you can live out side the country as much as you like but it will take longer than 3 years to get your canadian citizen. for example in my case I been there since may of 2002 but I went back home 2 times which was little over 3 month so I will get my Canadian citizen in 2005 August. But now Iam here in the USA with US green card so Iam going to forget canada. If you guys need any addition information with out discussiong please let me know.

Peace out Folkk

Hmmm... so the cab drivers in Toronto have PhD's and Dunkin Donuts workers have MD's. Interesting. But let's look at it from a different perspective.

These doctors could live a very comfortable life in Nepal or India or wherever they come from. Yet, they choose to live in Canada as cab driver or Dunkin Donuts workers. As we know that every human being seeks to optimize their life and is free to pursue happiness by making decisions that are best for them and their family. So, that means, life as cab driver or dunkin donuts worker in Toronto is BETTER than life as a doctor in their native country.

No wonder so many people want to move to Canada.

Dhoti: in this case Ihave to agree that you are questioning correctly. What you said is correct. In last 5 years you should have lived minimum 2 years in Canada... otherwise you lose the PR status.

This is copy paste from their site:

To become a Canadian citizen you must:

be 18 years of age or older;
be a permanent resident of Canada;
have lived in Canada for at least three of the four years before applying;
be able to communicate in either English or French;
know about Canada;
know about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship;
Please note that time spent in Canada before becoming a permanent resident may be counted towards becoming a Canadian citizen.

Chatmandu,
People love to drive a cab in Canada coz they can apply for unemployment, which means you get some money from the govt and get paid in cash while you drive a cab. That way you can have 2 income and your health is free coz you applied for unemployment. If you have kids who are under 18 (with parents applying for unemployment) parents will also get 150-500 for kids from government. what Iam trying to say is there are whole lot of foreigners who are cheating on government and making money in different ways.
Thats why these people live in canada coz they are ripping the government off.

Peace out

Again, don't say that immigrants are ripping off the Govt. You don't know the reality of Canada. It's the Govt. policy, and that's why whoever really doesn't want to work, still can live in Canada on Employment insurance and so on. Don't blame immigrants... immigrants are needed in Canada for all petty jobs... but think why Canadians are not doing those petty jobs and rather they are living life without working.. coz it's Govt. Policy Rule by which they are leading their lives.

People in Canada marry get kids, then divorce... so now the single mother gets "single Mother" subsidy for housing, like a townhiouse. IN the nite the ex-husband will join the Ex-wife and kids and live like a family. Why? Coz it's possible due to Govt Policy, and these people and live like that. They don't aspire big bucks.... they are OK with livable life. So they don't work.

All the small business es are operated by the immigrants, who broght the money from their homecountry for investment. And now they are being ripped off by Govt. in the name of zillions of taxes.

Canada's going down.. believe me.. in about 5 years.... Then USA, probably in 10 to 15 years.... Think, what are these countries exporting to other countries apart from importing everything from China/Japan/Korea and European Unions?? Microsoft gonna go down... Korea/China/Japan are collaborating and developing a new operating systems...... Recently China mass produced DRAGON CHips which will be competing with INTEL chips. China gonna sell their cars in USA in 2008. Toyota is putting up Assembly Line in China.

Yes Immigrants are ripping govt off. well at the same time govt did ask them to come to canada as landed immigrants but they can go back like some ppl does back to their country if they don;t like it. But they don;t need to cheat on govt and rip the economy off.

peace

ha ha.... you're talking like a kid now.

The Canadian Govt. is not a Child so that immigrant can rip it off. Otherwise, they would have stopped this PR immigration process long time ago. Do you understand what I mean?

Rather you say that ignorant immigrants could not benefit fro the Govt. policies and plans as much the canadians.

I believe there are three or more associations of Nepalese. So your bro shoudl not be facing any problem, one of the association people will help him out. Actually it's a possibility that these associations compete each other to bring a newcomer into their association... so they even may send someone to receive your bro at the Airport.

Hey, if your bro loves garland and stuff.... ask him to go to Calgary. As I heard, over there the Nepali association sends a group of people at the Airport to receive newcomers with Ful ko guchha/maala (garlands)... and your bro will be surrounded by the welcoming team with nice speeches by the association people right at the carousal area. Man, that sounds amazing to me. Even I heard they give free board and food for a month or even more until the newcomer gets settled.

As per the question of who is ripping off who, I believe it is the immigrants who are often illegally or illegitimately taking advantage of the government benefits. But I also believe that happens because of the well intentioned but loose policies set forth by the parliament and the inadequate management by the government.

Canada is the most open and welcoming country. This has to do with not only the fact that Canada does need more productive citizens - by golly, country is one of the largest in land mass - but also because Canada holds firmly to the philosophy of immigrant nation, the philosophy of "Send Us Your Poor, Your Huddled Masses Yearning To Be Free", the philosophy that the US of A has now pretty much forgotten.

As for those of you who keep harping about the lesser opportunities available at the north as compared to the south of the border, what do you expect? Hello, have you been living under a stone in Mars? Canada's population is around 30 million (not much more than Nepal's 26 million) with GDP of around $1 Trillion. Compare that with the US's 285 million population and almost $10 Trillion GDP. Obviously there are bound to be more opportunities in bigger economy. One should be aware of those figures before one chooses to immigrate to either country.

I am not sure how true is the notion that there are Phd's driving cabs and MD's serving at fast food joints. I have not run into one as yet. Even if it is true, I am sure most of those folks are in those so called "lowly" but nonetheless respectable positions only temporarily, until they can get their skills certified by Canadian boards and so that they can move on and work in their respective fields. I think it is a good policy that foreign credential needs to be rigorously checked and certified by the domestic board in order to make sure that it meets the standards prevalent in the land. I would not want to be treated by a doctor who got his degree in Somalia from a university that may or may not exist, would you?

Furthermore, if you are good in your field, you will find plenty of job opportunities in Canada. Sure, competition is there, but if you have solid credentials that cater to market needs, you will find employment sooner or later. And the enterprising ones create their own jobs if they can't find one. Canada has one of world's best support system in place for entrepreneurs. People are just too keen on blaming the country for their lack of ability and industriousness

I am sick and tired of the fools who are more than willing to take advantage of what the country has to offer, while deriding it for their own shortcomings.
