For the past couple of days, the reaction of people in Nepal and here in Sajha following the incident of 12 Nepalese murdered in Iraq, have made me ask this one question, ýWhat is the difference between a nepali murdered outside of Nepal by an outsider, and the one murdered in our own Nepal by our own people (Maoists/Army)?ý If the answer is ýThe Outside and the Outsiderý then how much of a pride do we carry of being who we are in order to see this difference, as it is the pride that led to the answer?
More than 10,000 people have died in so called ýPeopleýs war.ý How often have we seen a reaction of this magnitude (the reaction to the death of 12 nepalese in Iraq) in Nepalese here in Sajha and in Nepal? Maoists have killed many mercilessly, more mercilessly than the one killed by the Islamic Militant, but why have we failed to react to those? When an ex-army turned civil worker was chopped off in pieces, where were those people who are right now out on the streets destroying countryýs property? When a grand-father was beaten to death in front of his grand-son, when an IGP and his wife were shot in day light, when a teacher in far way village was beheaded in this farm, and list goes on, where were we? Are these deaths not serious, not gruesome, and merciless to make us react? Or is it that as long as one nepali kills another nepali, it is fine, but if an outsider kills a nepali then our pride is hurt, injustice has been done?
Why is it that government is willing to compensate the families of the 12 who died in Iraq and not those ones who died in ýPeopleýs war?ý Is it because they feel responsible for their deaths? Donýt they feel responsible for the killings of thousands under the hands of Maoists? After all because of the corrupt politicians and the king and idiots like BRB and Prachanda, we are having this Maoists War. Similarly, why we here in Sajha extend our help to the families of those 12 nepalese only, and not to the poor victims of ýPeopleýs war?ý Why are we so sad, so touched by the death of the Nepalese in Iraq and not so much by the death of the poor innocent ones in villages due to maoists?

Is it because we are cowards, scared of Maoists, that if we react they might come and kill us next? Is it because the deaths of these 12 men got international attention, so this must be very important? Is it because the deaths occurred in Nepal are meaningless? Or is it simply we are confused?

So Confused correct me if I am wrong. From you post, I conclude that this incident holds much more attention and importance than the murders of thousand of people in Nepal due to ýPeopleýs warý simply because it was committed ýOutsideý of Nepal and by ýOutsiders.ý Oh, I completely agree with you, when you say the act was hideous, inhuman, blow to our country/countrymen and to the humanity since these guys were innocent just trying to serve themselves and their families. But isnýt it the same with so many people, some innocent, some young, some old, who have been killed mercilessly in our own Nepal in the past 10 years? Isnýt it also the crime against humanity? Or is it not, since the killers are no other but Nepalese in this case? Or is it not because you happen to share the same belief, no matter how slim, with the killers? A sonýs or daughterýs death is as important to his/her parents as the death of another one to his/her parents.

Confused.. you are too confused.... I know you subscribe to notions of Nepalese Maoists philosophy... and waiting for that day when Maoists will rule Nepal, and you will grab a golden post.

I am going to make some general statements:

Nepalese are idiots:
They go burn down countryýs property, get beaten up in riots and even get killed for senseless purposes.

Nepalese are aggressive, violent:
Nepalese have anger problem. Everything has to resort in violence. We cannot talk, discuss and solve problems. Be it a strike, a disagreement, a small social gathering, or just a group of friends, there are egos clashing, and many times, leading to violence.

Nepalese are cowards:
Like Sitara said, we just need a scapegoat. And then we go after it. We are too scared to deal with the main source of problem. We cannot do anything about the King, the corrupt political leaders, and the criminal Maoists, but go after helpless Nepalese muslim community. Why? Because it is easier to pick up a scapegoat.

Nepalese are self-righteous:
Before we sit down and start to think about why we have all these problems, and sort out problems among us, we start to seek problems in others, and then play blaming games. We donýt understand, we made a mistake electing the politicians who drove the country to this mess, and that we donýt need to commit it again.

We donýt think. Only if we did that, we wouldnýt be this Nepali.

Things are bad enough in Nepal and now we've got a religious war too. How sad. Why can't our people look past the rage, revenge and mob mentality? The people back in Nepal have to realize that violence will never bring back the dead Nepalis. Whether at the hands of Iraqis, muslims, Maoists or Americans; without a clear, coherent voice the violence just makes Nepal look like a backward country that does not have the ability to reason and look deeper than just the immediate. As I've said before, peaceful protests and pleading to the government of the Phillipines brought back their ONE person back to them...and, he was alive! As we all know, the Nepali government is ineffective and has shown the inability to deal with crises such as this...it is up to the people to lead by example...maybe then we can begin to evolve into a strong nation. The devolution of the people of Nepal is sad. I have always been proud of Nepal, it's beauty and our ancestors, but today...I am embarrassed to say I was born there..

First of all before being angry to those muslims who killed our people..take a break and think about an innocent nepali guy who gets killed by this maoist problem..c'mon people in average in nepal 14 people are being killed and hey this is not done by muslims it is done by nepali!!!!!!!!!!!!! so what do we do now kill ourselves????????????? think hard why did these nepalese go to work outside...it all becoz of the problem the country is facing..unemployment, corruption and what not......!!!!!!!!!!!!! This killing happened because of what nepal is going through!!! NO one heard nepalese plead today..why becoz we are poor!!!!!!!!!! lets stop begging out and lets do something for our country....bring out our rage to those people who created this Nepal...lets not make it a religious issue....make it a humane one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pragjee, killing of nepalese by maoists is understandable because its a war of maoists against the government but here its a issue of religion and our nepal pride. Also now its very clear that why maoists choose to become what they are now. I too have lost all my faith in Nepal government. The system should be abolished.

zapatista.. what are you trying to say???? THE MUSLIMS KILLED THE NEPALIS..we did nothing.. AND WE ARE STUPID ??AND ANGRY. of course we are angry.. if the people had killed your family would you sit and be rational and think that being angry is stupid??. I think that what the nepalis are doing is their reaction towards the shock.. and we all are human!!!

Cool_keta, you wrote "killing of nepalese by maoists is understandable because its a war of maoists against the government." How is it understandable and to whom is it understandable? To the fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, wives, husbands of those who died? Murder of anyone is not understandable. Then for those muslims militants, killing of 12 nepalses might have been understandable, as they were fighting againts US (the invaders) and anyone directly or indirectly connected to them.
So condemning only the killing of 12 nepalese in Iraq and not of the thousands by Maoists is setting up double standards. Like I said before just because the killers this time happened to be non-nepalese and do not share the same belief than you doesn't mean that it is more condemning than the ones killed by those you happened to share the belief with.
