This firebrand YCL cadre, named Matrika, should become a minister for only Mithila then. Come on, you are not even elected to get the post of minister. Needless to say you don't even deserve the post let alone change traditions/constituion. I wonder why he hasn't joined the other Terai politicians yet.

This Matrika is a fooking ashhole, I don't know what he is trying to prove, the worst so called minister ever to see. And i wonder with the government why it is supposed to agree to give him oath in maithli language and make such arrangements for him. Such a nonesence drama. Kahi nabhako jatra Hadi gaun ma.

I wonder if these guys who we called minister, ever went to school for formal education.  I do not mean just 6-7 grade passed.  What is their education level??  Why should they become minister if thy do not  even have little bit of common sense.  How can they represent nepal???  Matrika Yadav,  go and learn some Nepali becasue it is the national language of Nepal.

In My personal view....
Yes we need good educated and NEPAL loving people in the parliament and  government!!

If you go through Nepal's History....the language Nepali was known as KHAS BHASA and NEPAL was just Kathmandu then.  "NEPAL BHASA is Newari if you don't know "....well primary I am Nepali  and secondary I am Newar....i am proud of my heritage and language.

Well why do we care what US or India does?? But still India does have many national recognized language and Nepali is one of them. Where as in Nepal, Supreme court has rejected to accept other languages to be used as official language. In Month of Baisakh they call it Black Day to protest the Supreme Court's Decision on this issue.
We are proud of 4 jat 36 varna ko phulbari....then why one language is superior than other. i believe what he did was good thing. we shouldn't be ignorant, and Nepal Government and Supreme Court should accept that there exist many language in  Nepal. I am glad that he took oath in both the language....its a progressive move!!

Geda Gudi,

1. Why do we cae what India and Us doees ? I was not trying to compare but merely giving an analogy.

2. Maithili is also one of the nationaly recognized language and so is Newari(just like Nepali in India, Navaho in US). So what's your point ?

3. Supreme Court has rejected othr Languages ? That was in the 80's, but since Democracy not true.

4. If everyone went with their 4 jaat 36 barna... he he .... there will be nothing but confusion. How the hell are people going to communicate.

its not the matter of superiority. Its a matter of practicality.

5. There is a difference between accepting other languages and Official Language. When he goes to a foreign country, does he take Nepali passport or Maithali passport ? Then what is the Problem ?

Bathroomcoffee,
thanks for the sensible reply :-)

1. Nepal’s 1990 Constitution recognizes its multi lingual character but the Supreme Court of Nepal in 1999. prohibited the use of any language other than the official language Nepali Khas . (Source: http://www.safhr.org/No-Nonsense%20Guide.pdf )
2. Yes you are so true, we used this language to be practical, to communicate. And I also agree that people should have RIGHT to speak the language they prefer.
3. ("Indigenous peoples right should not be neglected by the country") and this act of Minister shows that we Indigenous people  shouldn't be neglected. This is Ours NEPAL too...
4. We have two language in passport NEPALI and ENGLISH...that means are
you carrying BRITISH, AMERICAN or AUS, Canadian Passport( Canada has French and English)...French is also a Official language in Canada).
5. My argument is not about Passport, my argument is,  if in some place where more people speaks their own native language more than  they speak Nepali...like  Maithali, bhojpuri, Rai, Limbu, Gurung , Newari ,......then why that language can't  be accepted as a administrative language?? So in Janakupur let Nepali and Maithali, in Kathmandu/Patan/Bhaktapur Newari+ Nepali and so on be the administrative language?
6. Just read what UN Declaration(remember we have signed the treaty :-):. Persons belonging to national or ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities (hereinafter referred to as persons belonging to minorities) have the right to enjoy their own culture, to profess and practice their own religion, and to use their own language, in private and in public, freely and without interference or any form of discrimination. (Source: http://www.unesco.org/most/lnlaw7.htm).

In conclusion, what Minister did was to draw attention and to protest on behalf of all the minorities indigenous people, he want THEM (Government to listen to us). If we want to create New Nepal, we have to be Progressive, the rigid and orthodox ideas will do no good to anybody. Lets not be ignorant lets join hand in hand to make OUR NEPAL Progress.

Geda gudi. If he had any reservation about Nepali language why didn't he raised this issue when he was minister. Why did he took oath in Nepali months ago. Why did he refused to take oath today in the 11th hour.

Isn't he Nepali minister. Or he is just a maithili minister. What can a Bahun, Chetri, Newar expect from this minister. Isn't it complete disrespect to Nepali  language.

I saw in television girija was saying the oath in Nepali and he was just translating it into maithili. How would girija know if he is really taking an oath.

Lastly we should always abide current laws. You can't go outside law to enforce it.

Nepal’s 1990 Constitution recognizes its multi lingual character but the Supreme Court of Nepal in 1999. prohibited the use of any language other than the official language Nepali Khas .

IF THAT IS FOR OFFICIAL GOVERMENT BUSINESS THEN THAT WOULD BE THE RIGHT THING TO DO TO CURB CONFUSION AND MISUNDERSTANDING. OTHERWISE WE WILL ALWAYS BE FIGHTING AND BICKERING WITH EACH OTHER(not that we don't do that enough already)

"And I also agree that people should have RIGHT to speak the language they prefer."

yeah speak it at home or at your leisure... no one is stoping you. But not when addressing the govt. Otherwise we will need an interpreter everyone a minority speaks. It would lead to total dysfuntion of the govt.

"and this act of Minister shows that we Indigenous people  shouldn't be neglected. This is Ours NEPAL too..."

If you think of it everyone in Nepal is indegineous in one way or the order depending upon what part of the country you  Come from.

So why learn English ? If Bhojpri or Maitheli is what identifies you then you should speak that with everyone. No need learning any other language. YOUR LOGIC HERE IS A LIL SKEWED.

Just read what UN Declaration(remember we have signed the treaty :-):.

I am all for speaking your own Language(I am also a minority in Nepal). But there has to be one National Language which all the citizens of Nepal should be able to communicate without any confusion.

Girija is a fawking cunt..I cant believe hes still in power at age of 84? For godssake, WTF is he trying to establish there? Can he even think properly?Respecting his age, he should step down as soon as possible and have young generation take the office.

Matrilka? jun thali ma khane, tesmai hagne? That lil chimpanzee wants to take oath in Maithili at National level?

Has that lil piece of shit even been to school to understand about a nation and its constitution? He needs to be shot dead by some fellow from Terai who knows better about a country.Give the rights for madheshis, they have equal rights just like every other person and clear this mess.

500 dhotis cross the bridge into Nepal and demonstrate while local administration is too busy sipping chali haleko chiya and cunts like SPA too busy sharing power, trying to compete whos going to build a home first? What can we expect from these  losers?Just shoot two dhotis and see how fast they going to cross back the river. But no.....

make maithili a regional language or make it a symbolic.Every language has its own rights but not at national level. If  they want dhoti kurtha at oath taking ceremony, have the secutity personal shoot him dead first and let the person walk free without any charges.

now for people, who want limbuwan, churewan, bhedawan,bakhrawan.......who has no clue how to run their own house and want a state size of Tinkune, make a gas chamber in Tinkune and torture them alive. Its okay to kill 50000 people is a nation can be built.History shows that just depends how one looks at it.

look at history of America. They almost entirely wiped out native population to established themselves. Our nation is already established, we just have to wipe out cunts who are worse than rats, have already sold themselves and willing to sell anything for their selfishness.

Tight the damn border. Its twenty first century, no nation can take other nation. Is taht what we are afraid off?Afraid of India taking Nepal?Lets not talk about our bahaduri how we are going to fight in that case.We never have to fight. We got whole world watching on us.We got support.

Export from China, its dirt cheaper than india.Balance the goddamn relationship between both country. We need them both

make sure the torture chamber at Tinkune becomes a museum just like Auschwitz , so everyone remembers what happens when people have mental disorder and start playing with a sovereignty of a country.Dont forget to charge photo happy tourist museum fee which goes to national revenue, and yes in Euro please since dollar is going down.

No quiero,
thanks for the reply, I totally agree with your point of view! but lets look into this matter in different view point.

1. We all are Nepali first.....he's Nepali minister who speaks Maithali, don't get confused with NATIONALITY AND LANGUAGE WE SPEAK.....i might speak different language than you  or my mother tongue is different but in nationality i am no less than anybody WE ALL ARE NEPALI First!!
2. He has just pointed out the discrimination that is present in Nepal, this is very progressive move. Well i find it is very calculate move to protest, now everybody knows what we indigenous people are deprived off.
3. It is not disrespect to Nepali language....how can it be disrespectful?? tell me?? Girija can have a translator if he wish :-)...but its a protest, its a wake up call for the Nepal Government.
4. Which LAW says we cannot speak or take Oath in Maithali?? I doubt there is any LAW that Prohibits freedom of speech or  expression. If you can just go to my previous response, goto UN's declaration which talks about freedom of speech.

OUR MIND IS LIKE A PARACHUTE, IT WORKS ONLY WHEN OPEN......lets have a open mind and lets make our NEPAL BETTER....NAYA NEPAL!!

Geda gudi,

ghar banauda jag baliyo chaina bhane ghar bhatkidai na ta?We are not a country like Canada bud where one guy from Quebec dreams of having seperate state next day there is a poll. Our country is not secured enough. Our base must be strong. We cant have 4 jat and 36 barna and keep on singing same song everyday, its not practical just like Bathroomcoffee said.

Its an insult to reject taking oath in Nepali language. He just doesnt say "NO".He walks out from there? And you think its protest?in taht case, we all gotta open our minds buddy so we dont fall from the plane just like you have advised.Thank you for that.

People from Hispanic origin have already passed blacks as minority in America. The whole shape of this country is changing but have you ever heard of someone talking Oath in Spanish?Or protested English language?English is not even official language in America so why not just walk out?

i think Bobby Zindal(governer of Lousina.)antonio Villaraigosa( mayor of Los Angeles whos spanish) should produce legislation where it says since i am of indian origin somehow hindi should be permitted and spanish should be official language of LA respectively....

Geda Gudi,

I dont get your point. I thought language among others is a source of national identity. How can we do away with that?

Now, if we allow Yadav to take oath in maithili, somebody else would want to do the same in Newari, bhojpuri, and so on and so forth.... The fabric of our unity is tenous at best right now, and introducing these trivial majors will invite more chaos.

Once we allow oaths to be taken in different languages, how about the use of ethnic language for written communcaiton? do you support that also? Because I can see the maoists demanding that pretty soon. If thats the case, well, you and I  will need a translator next time we visit the government offices in our own country.

Individual/ethnic freedom, identity etc.are all very important and nepali society has been relatively tolerant regarding the use of ethnic language. I dont think anyone had issues with folks from janakpur speaking in maithili, or newars in ktm speaking in newari..of course, until these lunatics (i mean maoists) started the mayhem. But if we push the idea of lingustic freedom too far, i dont know what remains of our nationality/identity...

Yeah...and the constitution of my country says nepali is the officaial language. Without any amendment, I am not willing to let that SOB Yadav do whatever he wants......

Yes guys i agree to your points and its valid in many ways.
1. What Minister did was just a protest about the discrimination. At least we are talking about it right now, and I feel its a good move, we are talking, general publics are talking. But we should understand the real motive behind his move. Insult why you think so ? he's a very radical, spontaneous and  kisses nobody's ass and he was there proving the point, action speaks louder than the words!!

2. For example, in Janakpur if you use Maithali and Nepali as a Administrative language how can it cause confusion?? Most people speaks Maithali there, if not Nepali is always there, we are not boycotting the Nepali, just keeping 2 administrative language for  different region? Same way Nepal Bhasa(Newari) + Nepali in Kathmandu Valley and so on.

3. May in 100 years time(or less)looking at the influx of non-documentated immigrants, in US they might pass that legislator!! Rules are Regulation are changed according to peoples need.

4.Studies show that we learn better in our mother tongue....we can learn English as a language not a medium to study.
"Many studies have shown children do better if they get a basic education in their own language. This is important because about 476 million of the world’s illiterate people speak minority languages and live in countries where children are mostly not taught in their mother tongue.

In New Zealand, a recent study showed that Maori children who received basic education in their own language performed better than those educated in English only, notes Don Long, who produces books and teaching materials in the country’s minority languages.

In the United States, a research unit at George Mason University in Virginia has monitored results at twenty-three primary schools in fifteen States since 1985. Four out of six different curricula involved were partly conducted in the mother tongue. The survey shows that, after eleven years of schooling, there is a direct link between academic results and the time spent learning in the mother tongue. Those who do best in secondary school have had a bilingual education.
