Due to increasing number of politics related postings, we have created a new section called Nepali Politics Forum.

Currently only few of the recent politics related threads have been moved to the Politics Forum, but moving forward, please select the correct catagory of 'Nepali Politics Forum' when posting politics related posting.

This new section has been created to cater to the needs of politically inclined visitors while keeping the general sajha kurakani open for more general discussion and sharing helpful information to the general Nepali public living abroad or in Nepal.

Comments suggestions always welcome. Happy Friday!

Best wishes,
San

San.

I don't understand this. So you are saying that male chauvinist pigs get to discuss anything in kurakani, and get their thread featured at the top of the homepage, and that any newly posted joke in the humor section appears there as well... but discussions of Nepal's current problems and future get moved to some obscure location that can only be found by following a difficult-to-read link at the very bottom of a long homepage...

If that is how sajha is to be, then so be it... that makes samudaya.org and INSN more attractive...

Note that I don't mind the grouping of politics related threads. But then at the very least the top 10 threads should still appear on the homepage, and there should be a clear link to the politics forum along the left edge.

Arnico.

SAN Bro:
I got a suggestion for you...

Why not leave the posts the way it was where the latest post are at the top regardless of it's category.

I think it will add value for some user to be able to filter the posts by the category (eg. Politics, General, Humour, etc.) but for that you will have to ask the poster the category of the post.

Just a thought.

Arnico and Newlynew,

I have received feedback from quite a few people about how sajha is getting monopolized by politics and that thesedays sajha is all about political propaganda. As we have tried out in the past to see how different things work and don't work, I am giving this a shot. Please use the Vote tool as well to express your opinion about this.

Thanks for your comments.

San writes: "... thesedays sajha is all about political propaganda".

this statement shows that San is not happy with Sajha becoming a first place to
discuss current problem that Nepal is facing. Arnico is write if San asks everyone
to follow that silly link, he seems to be under pressure from Royalists who dislike the
open political discussions and want to try to push political disucssions into corner.
I feel sorry for San.

Jai Nepal

Kaski,

Guess you love to politicize things. Nice try.

Read "see how different things work and don't work, I am giving this a shot. Please use the Vote tool "

If the voting suggests that this is not desirable then we are going to revert back to the way things were.

If San is so dedicated to include everyone, then he can divide the front page's Kurakani links into two parts let Kurakani's have 50% share on top and next bottom half have links on those topics related to Politics. But, if he wants us to click twice to get to Politics related topics, then why should waste time by getting first page unnecessarily. The charm of Sajha is to see everything on first page, but if you move things in secondary pages, then a very few will have interest in clicking on that link and going to that page. So it will be win situation of the current autocratic political benefeciaries residing close to him, who seems to personally influence him to stop puting the political discussion in Sajha front page. San has failed to remain neutral, its unfortunate. I wish he or his family back in Nepal are not under any lifethreat if he switches Political forum back to front page. I guess that he is trying to corner political talk probably because he is under life threat, directly or indirectly. And, he will certainly come here and deny it, its what happens when people are hijacked. I am preety sure that San might have been directly or indirectly hijacked, lets excuse for such switching, and we should expect such hijack to happen when the whole country is burning and chauvanists are trying to rule the country just based on the bullet, without any faith on open political system.

Jai Nepal.

Kaski,

As an admin of this site I have to consider constructive criticisms. If half of the kurakani on the front page was all about sports, then it suggests a need for a separate section for sports, since obviously not everyone shares the same interest in sports.

The same way, it is not necessary that everyone share the same interest in politics.

In order to find out the general point of view about this issue, I have created a SURVEY, which you can feel free to fill so that we know what the mass wants.

Kaski, I urge you to stop making assumptions about my personal inclinations or cook up conspiracy theories.

This is nothing but an excercise in finding out what the visitors want.

Thank you.

San bro,

This is not realted to topic but if you could catagorize the classifieds, it would be great. Like apartment rentals, buy and sale etc. If it works fine, you can even start charging some amount that will be helpful for maiantaing the website. This is the most popular site in the diaspora and I think it will be great. Just a thaught.

Peace

Dear San and Everyone,
This morning when I posted on "Save Nepal" thread answering some of the issues that arose to my surprise I wasn't able to view them on the page.Instead, I noticed that sajha would rather encourage posts related to girls, fun, entertainment and what not.It is clear to me now that sajha too is an engine that is run by some monarchists/oppurtunists.
Politics isn't what I was trying to act.It was simply my conscious that forced me to answer few words back to some blind worship of authority. When you stand against any authority you are not politicking as most of the Neplalese understand. You are standing for the dignity of your human mind that performs best when it is not controlled by any one.Sajha should let anyone who speak their mind do so.Like I have said power of any sort do not attract to me what so ever so I am clear headed enoughj to stand up whenever I feel the urge to.
Politics is a part of human life.not everyone who like politics are amere oppurtunists who are patiently waiting for their turn to play it and play it dirty.Unfortunately we are taught the other side of the argument. And hence,we come up with some thing like this new idea of marginalizing the original thoughts.
Hence we disagree.

San,

lets negotiate. (Open negotiation with Politics in Kurakani section vs Politics in different page or different section). You can give a small window in your front page to Politics, and that window can be scrollable, so that the interested person can scroll see the ongoing topics and click on it. But, if you try to put this in second page, then it can turn out to be a useless site for those who want to see public opinion on whats going on in nepal.

since you are the owner, its your choice. We are just poor users, why should you care us? You are enjoying on your money and we are getting free lunch in a country where free lunch has no space. Please go ahead, we might find some other place who might be offering free lunch that might not be so good as you provided in the past. Well, i am not saying you are not providing free lunch by moving the politics to different corner, but you are in my opinion trying to portray us as untouchables and you untouchables deserve little inaccessible corner, go to basement floor and have your free lunch there.

Jai Nepal.

Well I don't care where you put the page......People who care about it going to visit site....
I have already voted but.....I still don't think this is political issue. I believe it is rather social and human right issue....... supporting democracy and dictatorship is no long political thing it plain right and wrong at least in 21st century. And people who live in the USA and enjoy the democracy should not be promoting directorship over democracy if you were living in china or cuba or saudi arebia then it was different issue.

It is quite fine to EXPERIMENT, but I say leave it as it was. Visitors do have a choice of NOT clicking on "political" threads if they are not interested. But putting certain category of discussions in a secondary page is discriminatory. The greatest fun of Sajha has been that it has been INCLUSIVE of all aspects of Nepali lives, on an equal level. Let's keep on enjoying the diversity.

My two cents:
I grew up in a family where my mother had a different political leaning, my father another, my two kakas another. I, on the other hand had no interest in politics-( as were some other members of my family.)
when we used to get together- and we were a very tight knit family so we got together quite often- we made it a point to steer clear of topics that involved politics, simply because it was more of a 'forum' for all to enjoy and not impose someones beliefs on how a system should be run and argue all night.
I am proud to say we are still that way, and we have a very healthy relationship with each other.
Moral of the story: it has nothing to do with who is leaning towards what, it is more about respecting some one else's inclinations. Politics may be very important to some, but there are also many others who could care less about it. Please be aware of that.
Peace.

One question in my mind is what constitutes a political thread?

Is it exclusively reserved for debates regarding republic vs monarchy vs constituitional monarchy? Or are the names of few leaders here and there adequate to qualify a thread as political? Further, if someone talks about assassinating some political individual - like the thread about Tulsi Giri - is that going to be political as well? Chor neta falana, ghusyaha neta falana bhanera gali galauj garna matra banayeko thread pani political ho ki hoina? Ra mayaluketi = nepaltrue = youstandup = smilinghurt aadi itaydi le banayeka jasta threa (read "who can tell king action is positive "etc) pani political ho ki hoinan?

My aim here is not to be pessimistic and critical but to make aware, if that was needed, of some of the issues that may be needed to be dealth with very soon.

I understand this is going to be an experment. Lets see what happens.

San,
Since you have already decided to move the political discussion to the new section, everything else should be categorized as well. In the reply section, there should be a scroll down for section reflecting different categories, which should be REQUIRED for the user to select BEFORE posting the message. Then you do not have to monitor each and every thread and decide where it belongs ;-).

But I like the way it is (or it was). Once I am in Sajha I can see the most talked about thread right in the front page rather than going on different location.

I rarely visit different sections in sajha other than the main kurakani section. I am not a politician nor have political ambition however I do write more on political side than on any thing else due to the current situation in Nepal which is affecting us all. Personally I am less inclined to visit "politics" section. My 2 cents.

On the side note: I think you should consider the main target market that you want to serve. Who is the intended target population? For example, college kids who just came to US from Nepal, people who have already completed their education and are employed in professional areas, people who are doing odd jobs etc. The point I am trying to make is if you want to make Sajha popular you should consider the market that you are trying to capture or want to retain what you already have. Since Nepali Diaspora will only continue to grow there will be a time for you to decide which type of population that you will serve or who is your intended "target population". I am sure you want to accommodate everyone and anyone who has little bit of interest in Nepal however I am sure you know that it is not possible. Please make a decision based on the needs of the current market population rather than comments from some users who are more inclined towards humor section or want to see sajha more like a flirting place and like to keep away from intellectual discussions.
Hence, my 2 more cents.

hmmm....I kinda like this idea. I guess it is more organized. If someone is really interested about politics, he or she can find it effortlessly in one place; people don?t have to short things out from the other themes. I think it is convenient for everyone.
