Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala has been re-elected to the post of party president.

Koirala bagged 1215 votes against his rival Narahari Acharya's 165 votes.

Some two dozen votes were declared Invalid.

I am not conggressi but if i was i would have voted narhari....At least they chose their leader via vote but we have head of state we even dun know if he gets one vote....So why we are worried about that person who was elected by votes but letting unelected head of state roam around freely

I think most of those Congress Rep. are just full of buddhu people. What on earth made them to think that GPK will be a good leader after all drama happend recently. I feel sorry for the nepal.

Also they should at least have some age bar I mean maybe after 80 years of age they should be consider vetrans or something like that. When some one is too old they deserve to enjoy thier old age by relaxing at home not running for the political Kursi.

Vote count of the NC general convention elections, which was finished Thursday afternoon, has begun at 5 p.m. Thursday.

2005 New Nepali Congress (NC) leadership for the next three-year term.

Two-time party president and 83-year-old leader of the major opposition Girija Prasad Koirala elected for the next term, participants told Nepalnews.

NC leader Narahari Acharya had challenged Koirala for the party presidency.
For the party?s 18 Central Working Committee (CWC) member posts, 78 convention members had filed their candidacy.

New faces like Dr Shashanka Koirala, Sujata Koirala, Sunil Bhandary and Binaydhoj Chand, among others, are likely to be elected to the CWC, NC sources said. Bhandary and Chand were the invitee members in the NC CWC earlier while Dr Koirala and Sujata Koirala are new faces.

Dr Shashanka is the youngest son of NC founder late BP Koirala while Sujata is the daughter of leader GP Koirala.

Leaders Ram Chandra Poudel, Shailaja Acharya, Sushil Koirala, Bal Bahadur Rai, Arjun Narsingh KC, Baldev Sharma Majgaiya, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Mahanta Thakur, Khum Bahadur Khadka, Govinda Raj Joshi, Mahesh Acharya, Ramsharan Mahat, Chakra Bastola, Bhim Bahadur Tamang, Laxman Ghimire, Gopal Pahadi, Ram Krishan Tamrakar, Binay Dhok Chand, Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Sunil Bhandari, Farmullah Mansoor, Lila Koirala, among others, were among those who filed candidacy for CWC membership.

On Wednesday, the 11th general convention of the NC unanimously endorsed CWC?s proposal to remove constitutional monarchy from its statute.
