Discussion in FACEBOOK: BUDDHA WAS BORN IN NEPAL /http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=112791451329&topic=12195

FACEBOOK GROUP: FAREED, BUDDHA  WAS  BORN IN NEPAL

i hate to be so negative guys but it matters where he was born. today india is claiming buddha was born in India, tomorrow they will claim "madesh" is ours n next day they will claim Nepal belongs to india. come back to me that day and say u dont really care.
i am still to read the book n read what he actually said but no matter what buddha was born in nepal n it is a fact even if he wrote considering ethnicity. if u consider ethnicity half nepal is india n other half would be tibet.

.CyberLegend-
You must be brave to even ask such citizenship question of Buddha. By the way, since you ask of Buddha's, would you mind to share your citizenship please?
I disagree that it is irreverent. In simple words, same way as it does to you when your citizenship is quoted wrong.
More than pride on where Buddha was born, this is about misrepresenting "history", a fact and misjudgment on truth about Buddhism as well.
Besides, how would you think others would react if we say, Mohammad was born in USA or Jesus was born in Saudi Arabia? Exactly! You care to learn Buddha's teaching? You are not even willing to know your Master or his identity - forget learning his teaching with that attitude.

Shiva-linga - If you defend Zakaria on the ground that he might have quoted Buddha as Indian-ethnicity, would Mr. Zakaria like us quoting him as cousin on Osama? Right!

All we wanted was FACTS! If Buddha was in-fact born in India - So-Be-It! However, learn UNESCO's facts, Historical Facts, to your dismay - He was indeed born in Nepal. Thank you.

thought we were talking about where BUDDHA was born and not the cause and effect of what it MIGHT lead to. I do not see how India over taking Nepal correlates to Buddha's birthplace.
as far as I have understood, the claim Indians have put forward is that Buddha’s birthplace is located somewhere in the current INDIAN border and not Lumbini, I have never heard any Indians claiming Lumbini is a part of India. The political implication is not what I am talking about when I was saying I don’t care where Buddha was born. I just want to walk on Buddha's path without ever having to deal with political stench trying to over shadow it.

Neither Nepal nor India existed when Buddha was born. He was a citizen of a state that was neither although i do agree with the official word that he was born in Lumbini, which is a part of nepal. How significant is that? i don't really see any when you compare it to his teaching.
I therefore do not see any relevence for people to blow up this issue because there is a huge anti-indian sentiment and political agenda on both sides that is completely over shadowing Buddha's glory.

Agreed - There was neither India nor Nepal. Infact was called "Bharat-Varsha". However, his actual Birthplace is located at Present Nepal. So, why are you defending, while Buddha's birthplace was not India - neither THEN as you pointed, nor NOW. Come on! Agree?

How significant to his teaching? Isn't the very essence of Buddhism to believe in "Truth"? How can you term that irrelevant or not significant because you cannot stand for Buddha's teaching or cherry pick some but hate to live with the FACT - Not my story or India's or that of Mr. Zakaria, but "THE" FACT- Historical Fact, Proved, Supported by the United Nation's Agency, by the credible govts around the world including Japan. (Not India-Sorry in case I hurt your sentiments)

Who is talking about Anti-India crap here? I talked of FACT. Is FACT
another name of India? India FYI claims anything they can. Even Mother
Teresa was born in India, or Jesus's tomb is in Kashmir, So you
clinging to India's or Zakaria's claim that Buddha was born in India is
nothing new.

Besides, I cannot insist anymore to stick to the truth as you feel, there is no need to blow up this issue, to me- it seems, it is time for you to quit this thread and for me to try any hard to educate TRUTH, not being politically correct, misrepresent facts, it Does matter to many others. We just cannot say it doesn't matter or it is irrelevant because you do not get it or doesn't matter to you.

First of, in no way am I defending Zakaria’s claim that Buddha was born in India, that sir is flat out wrong (My sentiments remain unchanged, you on the other hand seem to be fuming trying to defend something that does not need to be defended)
Second, I was speaking on behalf on myself and not MOST of the PEOPLE so you should just relax.
As I have said it is my opinion that I do not care and it does not matter to me where he was born. I am sticking by the official word that he was born in the PRESENT NEPAL, why should I have to go out there and defend that notion? I still feel that Buddha’s birthplace totally has no bearing on my how I view and follow his teachings; regardless of where he was born I would have still followed it.
His birthplace therefore IN MY OPINION has no significant impact on how Buddhism has flourished.

You asked Buddha's citizenship,
You also tried to clarify Historical evidence on Buddha's birthplace on your earlier comments,
I was merely trying to share my opinion to correct it as I just could not agree to falsified facts and basis on labeling Buddha's as Indian.
I respect your personal opinion, however, we all should respect that of other's too. We should expect response when one says, it doesn't matter or is irrelevant. Thanks.

Agreed, I am in no way trying to cross anyone’s belief, I was just trying to show how Nepal and India are still fighting over it when in fact none of these nation ever existed at the time of Buddha’s birth. My other point is that I feel Buddha does not and should not belong to any particular state, for his teachings are what he was known for throughout the world and he should be respected accordingly and not by which nation he was born into.

Cyberlegend...
U need bit of a logic in your head.
Jesus was born under the Roman empire, controlled by Romans, infact he was killed by the Romans by Roman authority (the cross...you get it). Yet when you ask people "Where was Jesus born?", the answer is "Jerusalem" and not "Rome Italy" which is nowhere close to modern day Jerusalem. If they claim Buddha was born in India, then with the same logic, Jesus should have be born in Rome. Try to say that to the world and see what reactions you'll get. They'll call you idiot.
What makes you think Buddha's case is different? At least the Romans had a distinct presence in the history about their rule kingdom and their land during those days. India simply didn't exist at all during the time of Buddha.
This is simply India flexing muscles with wrong historical facts. Let me remind you, this is not a fight about religion, it is about history. So don't bring the "Buddha's message" type of BS.

Why in the world we care so much about ‘Where Buddha was born’?? Huh??? We Nepalese are so proud of Buddha being a Nepali?

We won't get tired screaming that Buddha was a Neaplese, Mt. Everest in Nepal, Tenjing Sherpa was Nepalese…. Bla. .bla….bla….

Damn……. We act inhuman burning tiers, taking away people’s right to walk, drive, work, shop, we make pieces of our beautiful country in the name of Caste. We hurt/kill journalists who dare to write, we kill millions of innocent animal to make Goddess happy, we take 3 months days off out a year in the name of festivals; ………you name it……….we have so much disgusting things to be ashamed of.

I don’t think Buddha would have taken  Nepalese Citizenship if he was alive today. He would rather have filled out DV.
