If the media picks up the story, it might be to her advantage as it was in NH (as some would argue). This comes at a time when Obama is running close to her amongst women (esp white women)

This is getting more interesting by the minute.

Why is it a big deal anyways? She's just a human and so is Barack.

I am all for H. Clinton.  She sounds so much confidient than B. Obama.  And again I think if B. Obama is president, I see States splitting on basis of race and things getting worst.

Yeah. It would not have been a big deal if it didn't have any political impact I suppose. In New Hampshire many people have argued that shedding a tear made her more human and  helped her earn the sympathy of some voters who reacted with emotion and empathy.  In a close race, even if it sways a few people, it can make an impact. I guess we will know tomorrow.

By the same token,  a Hillary win could split the country along gender lines. However, the general elections cant be won on race and gender, and barring South Carolina, I doubt either of them will over play that card.

Whether her tears are genuine or phony, I don't see its gonna help her any further. No one wants a candidate who fakes tears in oder to garner sympathy votes as their president.....people don't want their president crying all the times....they want COURAGE and COMPETENCY not EMOTION. surely them americans aren't this stupid but wait they elected BUSH twice....so if her crying works i won't be surprised either LMFAO. well, it worked the day before NH and the SECOND time it happends, again the day before super tuesday .....somebody hand her kleenex LOL.

I knew it was only a matter of time before our Nepali daju bhai (didi bahini as well??) started shaping up the US elections hehe. I am dying to see who now starts the thread: Hilary or Obama? Or  McCain or Obama...kinda like those spams that pop up online. That thread would be interesting....hmmm.

One reason why candidates like Nader don't do well is because the two parties have, to some measure, co-opted their agenda. Not all of it but enough of it to make candidates like him inviable.  There a  a lot of  phoniness to all this, but it seems to have worked. E.g the evangelical right and the Republican party and the green left and the Democratic party

Just my thoughts.

The Land of the free ain't free anymore. POLITCIANS ARE OWNED BY LOBBYISTS, Lobbyists ARE OWNED BY CORPORATIONS. Legislations are made to served their interest. Bush has thinned out the middle class sooo much that the whole economy is about to come crashing down. Rich are getting richer at our expense. 40 Billion(how much Microsoft wants to pay for Yahoo)PROFIT for just Exxon and YET WE ARE STILL PAYING CLOSE TO $3 a gallon.

 

It ticks me off to be paying extra $2 a gallon to goto Exon's profit ? Democrat and Republican political elite act as if this country belongs to them. Not letting the likes of Nader and others to participate in the electoral process.

 

I really liked the California Governer's election when you had people from all walks of like run for ofice. We had comedians, porn stars, actors, actresses, and people from all walks of life participate in it. Now that competition.

 

 

I hate to be the cynic; however, given that Barack has caught up with "Billary" in California and in most of the 22 states that are up for grabs on Feb 5th, I'm not surprised she cried - it having worked so well for her in New Hampshire!

I respect Mrs. Clinton and the tremendous amount she has achieved; however, I resent the following about her: claiming to be "feminist" when she allows Bill to play attack dog every time she is in trouble on the campaign trail; the unabashed race baiting that Bill seems to relish these days and the constant references to "I and We" vis-a-vis Bill's administration that would lead one to legitimately wonder whether poor Al Gore was relegated to fetching coffee for the entire length of the first round of Billary as presidents!! For a candidate who screams till she's hoarse about the lack of truth from the Bush presidency, she seems to suffer from a very convenient lack of memory. She touts labour unions but sat on the board of WalMart; she touts health care and the needs to reform it, but has taken millions in funding from phramaceutical and health care lobbyists; recently, she has morphed into the John Edwards Protege and wants to take on mortage companies while the big guns at Countrywide, one of the most egregious lenders of subprime loans are one of her biggest backers - Politics is a dirty game, but it is far too hypocritical of the Clintons to point fingers at others when they have seemingly perfected the art of hypocrisy!

Barack may be young and a political novice (if one can call years of community organizing and time spent in the Illinois legislature that); granted his oratory skills may bend more towards platitudes than substance, but at least, there is the hope that he says what he means- that is more than I can hope for from Billary

Long time! I am well, thanks. How have you been?  Very interesting commentary there. Robert Deniro was at an Obama rally in NJ today (which interestingly was not well attended for whatever reason) where he quipped "If we were to elect someone based on experience, we should be voting for Dick Cheney" I am sure Clinton supporters can make up a similar line for Obama but though you'd enjoy the humor.

I hear you and can relate to some of your sentiments. In some ways I think this election produced quite an good array of candidates attractive to activists or people close to activist causes - from Mike Gravel to Ron Paul to Kucinich and dare I say Obama. You must have heard Nader is  considering a run again. A lot of times we blame the people for not electing whom we think of as deserving candidates. I remember Ganesh Man Singh used to call Nepali people  bhedas. Those same bhedas  rallied around him later and helped him carve his place in history.  Over the years I have come to believe that elections or political movements are ultimately about running a good campaign and if anyone should be blamed, we should start with the politicians, the people at the top of these campaigns. Nader and a lot of the other so-called "fringe candidates" are for responsible for the failures of their candidacy and we shouldn't look to point the finger of blame elsewhere in my opinion.

Yes, We Can! - Si, Se Puede  - the Black Eyed Peas

1. If Hillary gets more than 200 delegates advantage tonight, she will most probably win it all. She already has 61 delegates advantage (all she needs is 140 more). If this happens, Obama should look for ways to gracefully quit within a week.
2. If Obama trails by 75 to 175 delegates, this race will drag for ever (without anyone having much momentum, in my opinion). Assuming, super delegates are evenly split, this could go all the way to the convention.
3. If Obama trails by less than 75 delegates (but still trails), he has the momentum and this thing should be decided by March (in Ohio) or by April (in Pennsylvania)—most probably in his favor.
4. If Obama ends up leading with the total number of delegates tonight, the game is over. Hillary should quit gracefully. He already has the momentum. The win today will only pick up the pace of his momentum.  

We should know the numbers by tomorrow morning (ball park figure). Even though Obama has the momentum, I think #3 is the most probable scenario (though I am hoping for #4).   

 

I am not against Hillary, but at this point, being a minority male myself, I think, Obama will be a bigger change—could be for the better (since it can’t be worse). That sublimely addictive word, ‘change’, has caught up on me. So, let’s ‘change’ the topic.

I read the WP article on McCain the other day. Boy oh boy, they are already on his case. I fail to see the purpose behind reminding everyone the ire of the man who has always been know for his ire. This country loves winners, well, until they start winning it all. Case in point—NE Patriots. I never understood the hatred. For god’s sake, it’s just a game in which most of the players are classified “unskilled.”
