Even abroad, where privacy is held sacred.... seems like Nepali ppl don't get it.Perfect strangers, would immediately start asking personal questions within five minutes of conversation. Especially they want to know if you are single, staying by yourself to how much you earn... its just annoying! No one else does that. Now I keep my ipod handy and just put headphones on to shut off the poking Nepali nose.

Yeahh I know of such a people and I have met few of them..

What I usually do with such a people is feed them with grossly unrealistic information.

Like if they ask me how much do I earn. I tell them I'mm earning half a million and a half dollars a year and getting a raise shortly.

LOL!! sad but true.

let me share a few tricks i have learned over the years to deal in such situation.

here's my motto: if they start getting personal get ever more personal with them.

if they ask if you are single....ask them if they are virgin?
if they ask about your income....tell them you are in debt and ask if they can lend you $$?
if they ask the kind of profession you are in or what you are studying.....ask them if they have ever gotten fired from a job or failed a class?

.....well you get the idea!

so next time a stranger nepali try to get all personal with ya...don't be shy instead become a spy :-)

That's true.
Manche ko khutta tanne prabriti ta ustai rahane bhaneko jaha gaya pani.
So, I'dnot mind your disagreement with that but if I were you I'd not care that.
That's nothing to panic about, is it??

To ne nosy is just a NEPALIPAN. Few years back (still in remote areas) it used to be a farmalities to ask that kind of questions. That was the way to to start conversation and to show the interests towards you and be friendly. So basically we are from there. If your father comes here and meets other stranger he will definetly ask the same way that you were asked. You are just more influenced from the western civilization(lil bit me too).
But I dont think there is something that you have to be rude or disappointed or something like that.

sabai bhanda badhi ta yeha sajhama chha tyo problem. BADARLE AAFNO GHAR PANI BANAUDAINA ARUKO GHAR PANI BANEKO DEKHNA SAKDAINA.they r just interested in other's things.some of sajhaites are sick of poking nose in other's things. they just exchange information from here to there n make others fight. but in reality they r cowards n cant face the person about whom they r complaining. eutako kura arkolai lagayo arko ko kura arkolai tyo pani sacho hoina kewal aago lagaune kaam ani uniharu dadama basera thapadi marchhan. jaba agadi aayera bhan bhanyo taba dhoti samatera bhagchhan.this is a sick mentality who has nothing to do n don let others as well do something.just keep on being busy with such third class activities like destroying someone's charachter n morality in front of others! such cowards are lossers n nothing else! who is not interested in others r certainly busy with thier own stuffs n who like to talk about others r no doubt n poke their noses r sick disaster of society n social relation with each other. BE AWARE of some chatters in sajha!!!

Well i have had worst, met a little older person maybe 5 years apart, wanted to know what i did and how much i earned, my health insurance plan, and my benifits at work. I know some nepalese can be nosey but she went on comparing my stuff with her BF and started telling me how her boyfriends health insurance was better then mine. She was going on and on.

Everything i said did not matter she put a full stop to my sentense which was not complete and then used it and added "Hamro ta..........................."

Man that was a torture...........

I called them the "Hamro Type" stay away from these types

I guess, it is nepali ways to be more friendly by asking questions that could be considered personal by westerners. Well, people always asked me how much I make or how much my husband makes and how much we pay the rent and how many cars do we have . I tell them I live in rented house and have a car that I make payments on it and stuffs. Well, it is nepali thinking and when they asked questions, I do not think they are trying to get personal with us. It is just the way they showed that they are interested to talk to you and care about you.

OF course if a westerner asked me same question I am going to tell them " IT is none of their business." becasue for them it is personal but for nepali people who are still in nepal it is a way to show how friendly they are. When you live in Rome act like romans.
