through these years the history we are forced upon are fake not representing Nepal or Nepalese, all the date era described in the books are either of Kathmandu valley or Gorkha. before prithvi Narayan captured Kathmandu it was based on Kathmandu only after his so called unification the next place is Gorkha and than it comes back to Kathmandu valley. so does this mean other places beside these two doesn't have history? we know little bit about other places like Palpa Butwal or Nuwakot only because of the presence of shah king. isn't it high time other places got their names in the history books?
just a thought

OK many!!i am changing my view on you little bit but don't start dumb thing again. This doesn't look so dumb so i am answering you thread.
There is very simple logic when it comes down to history:History = his+ story.I am telling you this because i happen to have great interest in the history and i know how it works.
Who ever wins the story ,writes the history.

Does the fact gets distored yes! definately ..does the story gets lost yes and no.Yes because most of the people (more than 90%)will read what is wriiten in course book hardly anybody goes to find the truth.

Now if there is communism maoist for 200 years :this will be in the history books:
how great leader parchanda sacrificed his life , 5000 great maoist freedom fighters fought and died for the freedom of nepal. How SPA and king was cruel although maoist killed so many innocents life no body would know 100-200 years down the road

So, when you say , is there any history besides SHAHs and RANAs ?
they might well be ..no body gives so much damn about that.Come to think of it .what is the use .you tell me why you are so interested finding about small raja rajota ?what did their major contribution besides they were raja rajota.now talk about mallas and lichibaies ..they have major contribution to architecture and culture of Nepal.you tell me any body we missed besides major contributor to nepal's history then we will go from there.

well! ImI buddy i ain't taking about history of the king i am talking about history of the places. like when you read a course book of Nepal what the hell do you read? history of Kathmandu valley and Gorkha or history of nepal. I agree with most of your points of who wins blah blah blah till who cares about sano raja rajauta. but the thing i want to know is history of culture that has its place in east Nepal or western Nepal through plains up in the mountains. aren't we supposed to study history of Nepal and Nepalese not only bahun chhetri and newar's history or Kathmandu valley or gorkha's history.
OK tell me beside Kathmandu Nepal's developed cities are pokhara, birgunj, chitwan, dharan, biratnagar butwal etc. the only thing i know about is how birgunj was formed that's it. any idea about pokhara or others?
leave these aside too. let's say about the kings or even states. we read about baisse and chaubissey rajya can you name all the places that was included in these rajyas? the thing is nepal is not kathmandu or gorkha, when we study about ancient or medieval nepal or even modern nepal it has to include more than just kathmandu or gorkha that's what i am saying. and about being dumb, that's the way you see me i only act seeing how my opponent is acting.

good thread guys, it's high time that we start seeking the truth, Just two days earlier, one of my most intellectual friends from Banglore, Karnataka told me that there are a lot of words in Nepali who had origin in Kannda Language. Kannda Language is a language that is spoken in Karnataka State of India. He gave his reason that in 15th to 16th Centuary, One king was exiled from Karnatak state, at that time some small Kingdom and he went to Nepal. Then, I told hIm there were baise(22) and Chaubise(24) rajyas(states)in Nepal b4 shahs started their Conquer and among them, might be one king was that exiled fellow and there might be some similarities in language that is spoken in kannada and Nepali. I found his arguments very fascinating. We have to start the exploring truth and find out the history of Languages, places and people and not only of people who wins. Not only of shahs and ranas. for that, scholarship in history be initiatede from the government otherwise, even our birth place of buddha may wipe out from books as u all know that India is claiming it in Orrissa from so many years.

It is not necessary to include everything in a book. we can have different sectors' history and can be carried out independent research as a specialisation of history. There is nothing wrong if we start history of Dhankuta or Rais or Magars and Gurungs and different languages' history. Here we are emphasising the need of making more people educated about the specific history of different parts through different sources and not only by way of any 50 pages history Book.

how do plan to teach ??if you have to include into history for general public.that it ..only main places or events will be included. Not that i am saying may be magar history had its own significance but if some body wants to read about magar history then they will find out.I am not saying this because i don't know and you don't know because we didn't learn this in history of nepal. But ask some anthropologist in nepal ,they know..
so point is what point are you making i don't get it??
do you want everyperson who is not interested to know each and every specific detail or those who are in depth interested in knowing should know?
if your point is later then its already there you have to find the right people right books.

There are not plenty of books to study magar history in nepal even if i am interested. That is my point. If you or I not interested, no one can feed u, is not it true? In social Research aspect, Nepal lacks materials coz there is no incentives and plans &programmes to make ppl feel like studying.

When you invest something on something , you have to see what is the value of doing things.
There are books on magar history i am pretty sure about that have tried talking to some one who are into these kinds of stuff(historian, anrthopologists)..how much is enough i don't get it.. what is the value for normal people of knowing this also i don't get it.
you may say it is the history.i am not saying it is not the history..Like wise there is millions of groups in world .do everyone need to know about everything.Only those are become popular history if it holds some significance in present context.i do not think you are getting my point.I am not denying they are history but value for normal people dictates the importance it is going to receive.

Unless u know wat is there in magar history(just for example), how can u say that that is not important for majority? that is my point. For example, kiratis might have some traditional healing system but if u do not know how it originated, how it works, u can never make use of it.............n u always think there is nothing significance.........is my another point.

I am not saying there is nothing significance. There are anthropologists who have worked on these fields if it was so significant then there would have been published. You cannot keep on publishing each and everything is my point. And for general public if it doesn't contain any value then its not worth it.
you may be right there might be some other groups in nepal .who has siginficant contribution .. well there should be fundings. but think this way is basic necessacity important for now or funding in such thing which may or may not hold such significance.Scholars are there they are doing their jobs.what is the priority?

what i think is since we have 12 years of school i think history should be divided according to it. history of cultural and place should be introduce somewhere around 5-6 th grade and carry on. it's not like you have to read about kathmandu valley, gorkha, shah, rana, thapa mana dev gunkama dev jayprakash malla all your way till 12th grade. i think history should be fair for all region.
and about american history i think what ever has happened in us are shown once or twice printed or spoken in medias, whether by native american italian-american mexician american or european american. what ever happens in us are always shown whether it's good or bad. and in 300 years of american history every one has his say in the book including white black brown or yellow

History of any country is a matter of pride, or atleast should be a matter of pride for its citizens.

It important for one to atleast be curious of ones nations history and learn, so atleast the legacy could be passed down the generation.

Ok, IMI u have read america's history......we assume that, so what? Just because america has not included everything in text books can justify whatever you say. America is culturally degraded country if u try to look it from our concepts of good and bad. Just america does something and may be good economically does not mean, wat it does is right. Here we are trying to canvass a system where our history is taught and not that of ranas and shahs alone who looted our country for more than 300 years. If u are not interested to read, that is ur view but as earlier suggest by "many", we can divide the hostory course book on class basis, cultural history, economical history, history of literature..........I think u are trying to understand more than what we are discusiing here. We have not said that people should be kept starved and taught history...........I think u are not so fool to understand this point which should get priority.........U claim that there are enough books in markets........I challenge u go and search how many books u get regarding labour revolutions and history of trade union and contributions by chamar, mushhar(i hope that u have heard this caste.) just beacuse they are not significant to study shows that dumb mentality and interests in superficial knowledge. If u have to understand the market forces and labour relations(just one example) u have to see contributions of all..........which we lack.
