Does anyone of us are aware that we still have RANA REGIME and we're gonna make them more powerful. Dr. Giri is distributing National Park's land to RANAS. Govt. is following RANA's RULES my imposing more tax on books so that it makes people harder to get new books and get better insight and be aware of the situation at Nepal.

I would have to disagree with the article in one point. Ranas and Shahs are definitely not the majority in US among Nepali student population. Anyone studying in US can confirm this... That article is just wrong and tends to stereotype all the Nepali students in the US also... So fug the author.

What RANA and SHAH regimes did in Nepal?

What Shah royal did:

(1) All the time, fighting for King position and royal position.

(2) No development, No country protection.

(3) They simply did not care about country.

RANA regime did:

(1) Collabrated with British and save Nepal from East India Company.

(2) Connect issolated tiny country Nepal with Other European countires.

(3) Dominated country people politically, socially and educationally.

It's certainly true Resham. They were afraid if people got educated, they'll be aware of things around and can raise their voice. THat's exactly current regime is trying to do by raising tax on books, adding chapters on "nationalistic" and 'Sycophant Royal lovers" on text books, banning websites, controling journalism, banning movies like "BALIDAN", Banning "BBC" and other news channels for several months; and giving employement to boot-lickers in gov. position.

Only the few upper class elites were allowed schooling. Some Rana were liberal like Chandra ,Keshur and Bir Shumser. Not all were like Jung Bahadur.

Hey iZen, where did you learn about that? Do you really know the history of NEPAL? I doubt that even Dev Shumser was liberal and you are saying Chandra, Bir or Keshar Shumsher as Liberal? see, that's what nationalistic education does to us. It makes us blind with colored n' twisted history.

.

Ranas made world record of making non-stop curfew after 7pm for 70 years.
It used to be called RAMAN. If you ask the older people they tell you much more about: How police and army misused this curfew for mishandle and torture and even death of many honest people.

iZen, all the rana prime ministers were criminals. Most of the times, one went to the post by killing his predecessor or forcing him out. Junge started it with too much of bloodshed. But again, rana regime started due to foolishness of the shah dynasty. Starting from Rana bahadur shah, every king was more or less mad. Coming to Surendra Bikram Shah, he was completely mad. He created Junge.

Among Rana prime ministers, only Dev ShamSher was comparatively liberal. He tried to educate people. He sent the first batch of nepalese students to overseas for studying modern technology. That's the reason he was kicked out of the post of Shree 3 by his clan. I think he was the shortest serving rana PM.

After 2007, though they didn't have so much direct rule, but some of them are still powerful. One of the sources of their power till now is their marriage relation to shahs. They, along with shahs and other few BHARDARS still hold majority key posts inside RNA and have very much command over it. That is the reason why RNA never developed into a fully professional army.

when hitler was ruling not only the germans but half the europeans belived that he was a good leader..

same was with Nepolean

same with George Bush

but when they are out of power and their Opposition win, the story gets turned out...history changes...people mock people...

boys and girls welcome to the Power Game..

Imagine if Girija was to rule Nepal for the next decade or so..

Only Bahuns would be billionaires and the rest suckked up into oblivian

There'll always be certain gagan Thapas, trying to benefit from all or any situation be it the Ranas Shahs or Prachandas...

So boys and girls the real players are these Thapa like people - benefitting the best of any situation and then they are so smart that they do not have the ballls to say 'I am the instigator' not Prachanda or Girija..

very very funny..the real motive for freedom and development gets faded away in this power struggle..in the end everybody is a loser for who is going to own up for all the miseries of Nepal and its people??? Nobody.

The blame then goes to the Jantas..It's a vicious vicious circle...

I agree wiath Gautamji; The history that we learned in high school of Nepal were distorted. Reshamji, I don't know abt the son being killed. But there're atleast two more kings except Birendra n' dipendra, who didn't get natural death. n' Izenji, you should read the novels of Diamond shumsher Rana like Seto Bagh, Basanti n' also the archives at the library of london. I heard archives contains just the opposite of what we learned in Nepal in our school. That's why all the magazines containing these articles related to these n' even books were banned even at the time of democracy. N' we become ready to die for our lovely monarchy n' the so-called patriotism. That's why some students try to protest in the streets abt nationalistic education. N' u guys can also read the books by Einstien about his theories to get better insight.
