Was curious about how/what ppl think about interracial dating/relationships? Do you limit yourself somewhat to your culture or it doesnt matter. Cause I knw of ppl only dating someone of their own, if not totally rejecting their own. For me, obv better if Im with someone from my own country, since we share the same culture and beliefs but I dont limit myself... if it happens it happens. Be it white, black, red or yellow. Does anyone hear me on this???

Tehi ta bahnya...

I've never seen race in love, or people. I've always been attracted to worldly men with lots of brains, well spoken articulate, with strong opinions and philosophies. The warmth of love I feel with a man I think comes first from his eyes and secondly with the sound of his voice and what he has to say. Then the package and all the other stuff that comes along. I don't understand is oddities surrounding race, I don't think I could ever be with a man that hasn't traveled the planet a bit etc.

Cultural differences are a different story, but there are enough big common bonds to make those differences insignificant in the whole picture. It's hard finding love in this world... besides why marry someone so similar to yourself?

Hi Nirman:

I am sure someone gonna reply me from that perspective: I am glad that it is you, Nirman.

So long as Nepalese are concerned, we have ethnic diversities within our own country, but our sentiments, values, culture and tradition have some similar roots, we can handle that. But not the infinite dissimilarities as compared to Europeans or Americans, which, in fact is too overwhelming.

I am trying to analyze it as a realist rather than idealist...

Good point Nirman...

HD

Cultural differences can be challenging to work around, but not impossible obstacles.

Similarities and dissimilarities comes on all grounds regardless of race or one of its own kind. and on top of that Similarities and dissimilarities are like mix-masala of relationships; if the people are too similar, it ain't fun cause you both would be supporting each other. If you are totally not similar, it ain't fun either cause both of you will be arguing all the time. you need some love too!! Its always good to explore but its even better what or with whom you are comfortable with!!

Why do some people only care what others will think when choosing potential partners? I can imagine some narrow minded f*ckwit walking down the street, he spots a black/asian girl..."Wow she's gorgeous...shall I ask her out? Nah...people might point/stare/make a big deal" WTF??

I know what some people can be like, my friends for example, would laugh if I or one of the guys dated a black girl, even if it was Tyra f**king Banks. That sort of idiocy is one of the reasons they are ex-friends, but anyhoo, so what if other people sneer or snigger? Maybe I shouldn't be worried, because that means more women for you and me but it just bugs me. Black, white, asian, latino, blonde, brunette or red-head, I really couldn't give a rats-a** either way. If in my eyes she has a cute face and a nice personality then i'm interested. Simple.

Well HD,
It seems that we are talking about some love thing again...
In my perspective, I think, when u love someone, cultural difference become minor factor. I have seen tens if not hundreds of people who have intercast and interracial marriage and happily living. Its just barrier made by us,and breaked with strong will to survive together forever, happily ever after....
AND as Matrix said:
>>>Cultural differences are a different story, but there are enough big common bonds to make those differences insignificant in the whole picture. It's hard finding love in this world... besides why marry someone so similar to yourself? <<<
If u want to find someone similar to u, there won't be fun in the relationship...hoina ra...Life ma jiuna spice ni hunuparyo ni...and also Love is soo hard to find these days, why loose them just in sake of some boundaries we, the human, created oursleves...:)
Aani Poonte le chahin mero mann ko kura garyo..:D...hehe

Never had a Nepali chick as a GF or to be more accurate lets say never got an opportunity to have one.

It worked perfectly fine to have GF from a totally different country and totally different country with a radically different mindset so I guess it would be much easier to have a relationship if it's a GF_BF or a marital relationship from a same country because of familarity of mindset of each other(partners).

This is a great topic with some very interesting thoughts from many people. I agree with most of what has been said so far. The one thing I'd like to add is, class, in addition to caste/race, is often under looked when analyzing inter-caste relationships and I have seen lots of cases where differences in upbringing and the economic standing of people have been bigger spoilers in a relationship than just differences of caste or race. And this appears to be true for both intra and inter caste marriages/long-term relationships.

Just my thoughts.

It will happen, but it'll take time.
Two scenarios that I'd like to present here (I like Matrixrose by the way).
Scenario 1:
What comes in mind when we think of ourselves as Nepalis? "Nepal sundar shanta vishaal" and "Nepal, 4 warna 36 jaat ko SAJHA garden". (I might be deviating from the topic a bit here because I will focus my essay only on Nepal.) Whats important to me is the fact that theres there 36 different flowers that bloom in Nepal, that have their own culture, identity, dialect, scripts even. What I dislike is the fact that there's discriminatyion among castes and hence, their cultures. Bahuns, "considered" as the highest caste (I am one, by the way, for full disclosure) and so on and so forth. What it was meant to be was that when the caste system started in Nepal, it was meant for economic reasons, with each caste representing a specific area of economy, (bahuns as pundits and bookeepers, chetris as warriors, sunuwars as those involved in mining and gold etc, ). but then it deteriorated into a caste "hiearchy" whereby unfortunately the bahuns and other higher castes started taking advantage.
Thats the problem that needs to be solved and the solution is simple: dissolve the hiearchy. However, the different cultures represented by 36 different castes themselves do not dissolve do they? So are we to dissolve the entire caste system thereby creating a vaccum in Nepal's pride as a peaceful country of "4 warna 36 jaat"? or are we to maintain that, and take a MUCH longer and difficult path to peace amongst castes BUT protecting the identities of all these different castes and their cultures? Because kids who are born out of inter racial/ inter caste etc, marriage are generally confused as to what cultural path they choose. I AM NOT IN FAVOUR OF EITHER, CUZ IM STILL YOUNG AND IN A DILEMMA. YOUR OPINION ON THIS SCENARIO FOLKS?

Scenario 2:
this is short. The world's becoming smaller and we are dominated by the US. Thats my definition of today's world. So in such a scenario, are we to break the boundaries of culture, ethnicity and diversity and get on the "humanity" train, or are we to maintain one of mankind's most distinguished characteristic: DIVERSITY in culture, language etc by NOT getting involved in inter-racial/ inter-whatnot...marriages/ relationships etc.? I know ethnic diversity will always remain, its not like in the end, the whole world will look white or asian or anything for that matter. THE ISSUE AT HAND is WHAT is THE solution???????
ONCE AGAIN, ID LIKE YOUR OPINION:

looks great on paper (philosophically) but is a LOT more complicated issue in reality.

we haven't yet passed the intercaste taboo, so interracial relationships might have a long way to go.

my own experience was just fabulous once and absolutely horrible the other time. so i don't have an opinion one way or another :-)

interesting kaly4nia ! surely provokes some food for thought.

Thanks Hukka..matter of fact thank you all for yr comments. It is pretty interesting to see a lot of different opinions and thoughts about this. Like I said earlier, I myself dont limit myself cuz I have been in this type of relationship. I dont want to say everyone in our community is narrow minded, but dating someone in Nepal of a another race/country would be the biggest talk. Then come here, no peace of mind ...same thing ppl talk again. I knw its easy to say, who cares wat the ppl/society thinks? But its hard. Like Hukka said Interracial relationships have a long way to go....

I believe in human relationships, not in borders between humans for me it's working... I'm living a " interracial " relationship and is going in a very good way, and very serious, love doesn't know about borders or race,

I agree about what Nirman said "Love is soo hard to find these days, why loose them just in sake of some boundaries we, the human, created oursleves"

I have a soul just like she has too, the important as in any relationship is understanding, communication and careness.

Time.
