Can you please share your experience flying to nepal via china eastern? Cheap flights, little longer transit with extra leg but significantly cheaper compared to southern & others like turkish and qatar airlines. Also not quite sure how up to date their site is as I ve been unable to contact their customer service and chinese embassy about transit visa requirements for transit like say for eg less than 10 hrs? For more than 12 hrs transit?? Your most recent experience would help me to decide whether saving few hundred bucks is worth it. Thanks in advance !!

I have flew to Nepal via China Eastern twice. Yes, these are comparatively cheaper than the other flights that goes through middle east.
Pros: Most of the times the Chinese plane wont have enough people so you might get empty seat, i changed seat and had some wine and slept for 5 hours in economy;which is a 1st class experience :).
Food are not so good like in Qatar or In fly Dubai but its okay, you can get good food in Sanghai ( i had a big bowl of noodle which was superb in a snow cold day). If you have long transit, you can find some Indian/Bangladeshi people there in contact (other nepali guy knew about it and he went to have Indain food and even went for a sleep over night for 40$)
You can have a good sleep if you want in the airport, it's pretty much quite. Better bring your T-mobile/at&t --they have a coverage there. you can get a wifi but have to obtain password through a kisok machine with sliding your passport; is not that crazy? I had a 8 and 9 hours transit in 2 cities while i was coming back. But i did not feel that bored. Again i got 3 empty seat and slept 5-6 hour to my flight to LA. Cheers; i like china eastern ;)
Cons: I don't have enough idea going through the Chinese transit which made me confuse most of the time; its hard to find the exit/in and in route. If you have a short transit; then be prepared, find out the form, try to go ahead in a queue, its because chinese comes in group and they will go ahead of you and you can't do anything about you, they act like in Nepal, if they know somebody in the front , all of them will go in the front and you won't make to your flight. I had two transit in china itself, i flew from LA and then Sanghai and Pekong than kathmandu. They will take your luggage only up to Pekong then you have to check out your luggage and check in again for kathmandu which is kinda hassle in first place. And same while you come back too. If you have an america passport it would be much easier through the check port/security check unless it will take extra more time in some cases. In pekong its will be hard to find people that speak English, its always better to ask somebody official not a security guard or police. Well, its not bad at all, i probably will go through china again if i got a good deal. Now it would be easier for you to decide.
Well, if you like travel and a travel-like person you will like it, and yes, its definitely worth it and i would suggest you to do it. Cheers

About transit; you do not need visa for less than 24 hrs. As some of the Nepali guys went out for a sleep ( in 10 hrs transit) i.e. you don't need visa. And i had 18 hrs transit in two cities and i did not get any visas. you will be totally fine.
