Breaking News: Bomb explosion in Babarmahal, Kathmandu,3 dead,6 injured

KATHMANDU, FEB 27 -

Four people were killed and seven others injured when a powerful bomb went off outside the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) central office in Babarmahal, Kathmandu on Monday.

The explosion occurred at around 1:05 pm this afternoon.

Two died on the spot and the other two breathed their last while undergoing treatment at the Bir Hospital. Home Ministry has confirned the identity of one of the deceased as Krishna Bahadur Tamang, of Baireni in Dhading district. The identity of other deceased has not been established.

The explosion was carried out three days after the NOC hiked the prices of petroleum products.

Seven persons were injured in the blast. The injured have been identified as Basu Shrestha, 20, of Mugu district, Lal Bahadur Tamang, 65, of Dhading district, Som Bahadur Tamang, 35, Raghu Nath Khadka, 45, of Bhakktapur and Bishnu Pulara of Dhangadi district. The condition of Som Bahadur Tamang is said to be in critical condition. They have been receiving medical attention at the same hospital, sources confirmed.

Meanwhile, Samyukta Jatiya Mukti Morcha-Bishwokranti (SJMM), an ethnic outfit, has claimed responsibility for the blast.

The NOC office is situated 300 meters away from Singha Durbar, the central government secretariat, where security personnel are deployed round the clock.

It has been reported that a meeting of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on fuel price hike was underway when the explosion took place.

Home Minister Bijay Kumar Gachhadar has reached the incident site and took stock of the situation.

Meanwhile, a person has been arrested in connection with the blast.
