I work for stockbrokers in City just opposite to Deutsche bank where this guy used to work. The amount some of the stockbrokers earn in one month in my firm is sometimes more than what I earn in five years (excluding the expenses paid by the firm for their outrageous night outs, flights, accommodation claimed to be spent with the clients). I remember the ghastly faces of my colleagues last year in October when almost 10 people were made redundant in one day because of financial meltdown.
Obviously when all of it is gone in a second apart from not having saved for the future, the fear of not being able to maintain the lifestyle does make these people take such decisions.
The lesson is not to live life of excess and always think about future.
