Laws are there to protect commoners. Just because kids are physically ready doesn’t mean they are to be taken advantage by the men with status, wealth, power and position. This is exactly what predators do. They use wealth , nice dinner , hotels , clothes, promises of better career or marriage to convince kids for sexual encounters. This is very definition of a abuse of wealth/status and predatory behavior. And is this very reason laws exist to protect kids from.

At one point practice like,  forcing women to die when their husband died , marrying kids when they are berely 8/9 years old was being done for thousands of years and was legal, doesn’t mean it was right. With changes in society changes in laws and practices are needed. And this kind of law is needed in current society to protect commoners kids.

Now what that we consider when kids can make reasonably informed decisions on their own is debatable. Different country and society does this differently. In Canada I think it’s 16 , US generally 18, in nepal it’s 18 right now. But there has to be some line. And I personally think 18 is about right age. I do believe there has to be some variation in law depending on age of defendant and age difference between victim and defendant.

This is kind of law are created to protect those who are vulnerable due to rapid chance in their life and their mental maturity . Also tool given for patents to make sure they have ability to punish predators who try to take advantage of their kids immaturity by using wealth, power and status. The burden of being responsible and thoughtful is not on kids but are on those who are adults and considered symbols of society.

It’s understandable that’s kids don’t become immature to mature in one month between their 17y 11 month age and 18 yrs . But line has to be drawn and it his burden to stay away until that age is reached.
