To become successful, IQ is not enough, you need discipline, resources (money, time, opportunities), persistence, mental and physical soundness, and in some/most cases family or societal support, too.
In the US, the comfort say in terms of reliable climate-control, electricity, water, and the convenience regarding purchasing products and services, one can focus more on his/her/? own core competencies to be more productive for quicker success.
Given the US dollar is the reserve currency and as high-caliber Americans move to much greener pastures or a regular American does not want a particular job or business, those opportunities become available to qualified or willing immigrants. At the same time, one B-grade or C-grade student with the right curiosity and drive could come up with a solution to a pestering and common problem and become really successful, anytime.
