Been watching this thread, want to throw my 2 cents as well.
Fauci will benefit from vaccines, if you deny this then you are biased. To be fair, thats his expertise and its natural to have investments on the field which you have detailed knowledge. I do understand it seems like conflict of interest at surface but I think there is enough oversight on his financials that he will not get rich by any wrongdoings. So I personally do not think there is personal finacial motivation for him to make this pandemic worse or he is an evil person. He is just doing his job and is in a tough spot.

But....
Fauci is a bureaucrat after all and if you are expecting any efficiency or practical judgement from him then good luck. He is used to too many rules & regulation and will slow any process that he is involved with. It was Trump who overran Fauci and sped up vaccine, opened up businessess, pushed schools to open and tried to make everything back to normal sooner. Looking back Trump was right on almost everything and he was right person at the right time to throw bureaucracy out when necessary. People specially on left right now are making him like a super hero because he recommended against Trump's policies. Michigan governor puts his name in the background pillow and people here follow him blindly. And people on right are angry that he is saying negative stuff about Trump. Its natural and I don't think bad of him but would I prefer him if there is another pandemic or crisis? Hell no. That guy is scared of everythin and is useless without a leader like Trump.
I think last week or couple weeks back, he lectured Rand paul that he was still wearing double mask to protect against different variation. But the very next day CDC or some other federal agency said that vaccine is protecting against other variants too. Fauci is doing a lot of things for optics and to save his position not coz they are scientific or practical. He understands that he is mixed in politics now and is playing the game accordingly. He knows that by the time next party he will be retired and has nothing to lose if he sides with dems right now. Infact will benefit by deflecting blane to Trump. So in my opinion, he is book smart, not evil, but very ineefective, sneaky and weak person holding a top government position.
