For the last 2 years I have been wondering about this thing. I haven't been to Nepal for the last 8 years but now I am getting tired of the lifestlye here in the US. Same shit just different day you know. Tired of running on this 9 to 5 hamster wheel. I want to spend the rest of my life with family. But the news these days are just depressing man. Corruption, pollution, low quality food, crime. Do you think I can survive there?

Have you seen "Surviroman" in Science Channel. He goes and survive in extreme conditions.......really amazing. If he can do it, you can easily and happily Survive in Nepal.

Sometime I get the same feeling. I think we have become too materialistic after spending few years here in US. We fear that back home we may not get the same luxury and comfort living. Then, I always end up watching "into the wild".

hellcoder, you are right. it seems hard at first but once you go back home and spend a week or two, you'll get used to everything you're scared of. i went home last summer and stayed about two months. it was hard af first - dust, crasy traffic and road and obviously the drivers! when i went home from airport on a taxi, it felt like a hell ride - really scary. i reached home but nothing was anywhere close to what i expected. the house seemed short, dirty, it felt really hot (contrast between A/C and no A/C) everything looked so dull. the first thought that came was - how on earth am i going to survive here for two freaking months?! but the very next day i started meeting friends and relatives, things started to ease up. i travelled a lot during those two months, rode motorbike everyday on the same road i was scared to sit on a taxi. after a month i started thinking i wish i had a longer vacation. leaving home after two month last year was much harder than when i left it the first time for US.
and all those crime, corruption, etc - they existed before, didn't they? people carried on through those situations and are still moving on. if our family can, why can't we? it's definitely possible, we just need to be wiling to sacrifice the luxury that has spoiled us.
