Joining Hands For Kutumbasanga Hatemalo
1 July 2010-Thursday
-Supriya Pradhan

It’s not just a vote, it’s a power to make a difference. Politically, you may not be fond of the term but when it comes to supporting the people representing our country in the international arena, I think we should get on to it right away. So this time around, how about joining our hands together to help Kutumba get a chance to fly to the United States of America?
For those who are unaware of Kutumba, which I’m sure would be rare, they’re a special group of instrumentalists. Not taking up the popular ones like guitar, drums, or keyboards, they chose instruments that signified our indigenous Nepali music: Arun Manandhar on Tungna & Arbajo, Kiran Nepali on Sarangi, Pavit Maharjan on Percussion, Raju Maharjan on Percussion, Rubin K Shrestha on Flute, Siddhartha Maharjan on Effects. All of them are committed to the research, preservation and celebration of the diversity that exists in indigenous Nepali music and they’ve done so by touring in different parts of the country and even outside the border, calling their journey “Kutumbasanga Hatemalo”. Well, now they might have the opportunity to tour the US as well! Through the medium of our cultural music from every part of Nepal, they want to give the message of finding "oneness" admits diversity and foster peace, acceptance and understanding towards all identities but for that, they will need our support.

US based Chase Bank is offering $250,000 to an organization that wins the most votes on Facebook by July 12, 2010 and should Sarvodaya, a non-profit organization, win the amount, it will use the fund to make Kutumbasanga Hatemalo program possible in the US. Hence, it’s not just their chance/opportunity but also ours to show others what we’ve got. So let’s get voting and make things happen!
