A brief information on the Mayor's office of Adult Education:

The Mayor’s Office of Adult Education works to improve the quality of life of New Yorkers by promoting a state-of-the-art adult education system.    We want a system that serves more people with greater results.    We are helping programs to use best practices to help learners reach their goals.    We work with adult learners, educators, and government agencies to achieve this vision.    We also work with new partners who can enhance the system

Overview of the Internship

WE ARE NEW YORK COMMUNITY PROJECT
Program for Leadership Interns
Summer 2010

The We Are New York Community Leadership Project (WANY Community) is a new program sponsored by the City University of New York and the Mayor’s Office of Adult Education. Using the nine-part television series, We Are New York, the projects links immigrants who want to learn English with community organizations that sponsor conversation groups and volunteers to lead the groups.

The Leadership Interns will help grow this new program.    We need enthusiastic people who feel comfortable working in New York’s diverse communities.    All interns will lead a conversation group, recruit partners, and handle office projects.    Interns will be working individually and on teams, depending on the assignment.    During the course of the summer program, interns will participate in a variety of projects to further develop the We Are New York Community Leadership Project.    These may include:

o leading conversation groups
o organizing community events
o developing and implementing a social media strategy
o recruiting partner organizations
o automating operations through increased use of available technologies
o conducting research into appropriate measurements,
o analyzing data
o producing reports
o revising materials
o creating beta version of new program

The internship will begin immediately and conclude on August 13.
