Brian Hood, an Australian Mayor of Hepburn Shire Council, says the ChatGPT falsely claimed he was imprisoned for bribery related crime when he worked for a subsidiary belonging to National Australia Bank which is one the 4 largest banks in Australia.

Mr. Hood was never charged or imprisoned for the crime. His lawyers have sent a legal notice to OpenAI, the owner/creator of ChatGPT - the first formal step towards defamation lawsuit in Australia.

OpenAI has 28 days to respond to the legal notice, after which time Mr Hood would be able to begin the court proceeding under Australian law.

If he continues the defamation proceeding, it would be the first time OpenAI has faced a defamation suit for the content created by ChatGPT.
