Moving to LA in three weeks. Any info about Nepali groceries, real estate agents/rentals (for a family of 3), and Nepali community in LA would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

There are 1000's of Nepalese in LA (probably around 25,000 since last 5-7 years as the number increased heavily  due to the Asylum, DV folks and their family members). There isn't any Nepalese grocery but you get althose at the  Indian Store. You can find Nepali community every where such as in Alhambra, Artesia, Anaheim, Van Nuys, Torrance, Culver City and so on !!!

 Welcome to Los Angeles!
LA is huge metropolitian area and make sure which part of the city you will be residing, working, or studying. Otherwise, you will be spending lot of time in commuting.
Also, you have to be careful in selecting places where you wanted to live with a family. Some areas are better than others.

Thanks, Bhunte and Ronaldo. (I like those names!). Can you tell me more about those different areas? Areas you live in or recommend? I am doing some research and creating a shortlist both in the city and the suburb, but it seems like a pretty spread out place with real hige diversity in every imaginable way. Having some input will help triangulate the information and feel less lost!

It depends on where your job is so that we may suggest sth. Areas about best or good places to live are subjective and their distribution is very patchy. However, near sea shores are always best from Santa Monica to Long Beach in the LA County. Orange county is also best, and lot of people commute to LA from different cities in OC.

Thanks! My job is with a company in Chatsworth, which is northwest of LA. Do you have any suggestions regarding neighborhoods within driving distances for rentals or houses and good school districts?

Chatsworth is not a bad place. It is located in San fernando valley and there are many nepali ppl around that area such as canoga park, winnetka, woodland hills, etc. You should be fine.

Any Nepali families living in the Augora hills, Thousand Oaks, or Santa Clarita? They seem like nice place with good schools within driving distance from Chatsworth.

Not sure if giving information about Nepali families around there would work for you.... But, I assume there must be many. Why not you visit some Nepali restaurants like Tara's Himalayan Cuisine in LA or the one in Ventura. You may also find Nepali families visiting to local Hindu temples. Or, contact America Nepali Society of Southern California or Friends of Nepal in LA or Nepali Ekata Samaj, etc. by contacting any executive members for more info.... Teej and Dashain events are also good to meet with Nepalese around the area....

Good ideas, Bhunte jyu! Thanks. In fact, I am already making lists of some of those venues although I don't feel confortable calling people without meeting them first. For the office bearers of community organizations, you are absolutely right. That's now part of the plan. I will be there early next week house hunting to move in a couple of weeks!

If you really want to meet lot of nepali people then you don't wanna miss "Camping" this summer. Its an annual event organized by ANSCA. I think its on june 29th. Around 80-100 nepalese were there last summer. Its fun! :D

Oops! The camping organized by ANS/CA is on June 29 and here is the venue address:

Acre Campsite
32132 Castaic Lake Drive
Castaie, CA91384

People will meet at 11:00am and expected to bring a tent/sleeping bag etc for night camp and one food item (e.g., marinated chicken for a barbque, etc).
