Banking is one of the most alluring professions in the country. The ‘white collar’ recession might have faded the charm of banking profession in the western world but the top management graduates fighting  to enter the banking world clearly depict its magnetic effect here in Nepal. Handsome salary including various facilities and prestige attract people to join this profession.

Neatly pressed dressed, well combed hair and pleasing personality (also studious look with a pair of power glasses) give a reflection of a banker. Leaving these general facts apart, I tried a petty survey to dig out some ‘behind the scenes’ of bankers. It included some two dozen bankers inside and outside the valley. The micro survey resulted some realistic, some quite interesting and some very witty facts which are as follows:

-Bankers reach office early but leave for home late as the result of huge work load. In other words, entry time of bankers is fixed but exit time is never sure.

-They remain highly stressed as they need to execute piles of works, achieve stipulated target and meet tight deadlines.

-They tolerate the pressure because of the money. They pile on the stress when forced to work longer and harder in a bid to bag the year-end bonus.

-Sometimes they are subjected to verbal abuse from their senior colleagues.

-Time management is a tough challenge for them. They spend most of their time at office for their career growth. On the contrary, they are left with less time for their personal lives which turn them frustrated.

-Bankers head turn grey in short span of time.

-Bankers are hardworking, knowledgeable, accountable, disciplined and good team players.

-Smoking and drinking are bad habits of most of the bankers. Some people even crack jokes that ‘bankers are tankers’.

-They are always counting holidays in the calendars.

-Bankers work hard and are always ready to party harder.

All the professions have their own kind of ‘behind the scenes’. The perception on the professions totally depends on the individuals.
