Pokhreli mothers vow to counter bandhs
Elderly women affiliated to various Mother Groups in Pokhara's
tourist hub Lakeside have said, they will do anything to stop the
burgeoning trend of strikes in the country.
Five different
Mother Groups of the area organised an interaction with representatives
of local political parties, tourism entrepreneurs, human rights
organisations and the Chiefs of District Administration Office and
District Police Office, Kaski, in Pokhara on Monday and expressed their
commitment to stop bandhs in the area at any cost.
We will
counter all bandhs organised by any political parties or organisations,
said Durga Pahari, chairperson of Jagadamba Mothers Group.
We mothers decided to go ahead as no body cared to free the country from the bandhs.
Elderly
women speaking at the interaction said, the trend of bandhs should be
ended as the tourism industry in the area is suffering a bad fate due
to the bandhs.
The women also vented their ire at political parties and their leaders for using the people to fulfill their vested interests.
Even
though the bandhs might fulfill the interest of a small group, it
adversely affects a much larger group, said Badrika Lamichhane,
chairperson of Annapurna Mothers group.
The elderly women also
suggested the bandh organisers to padlock the houses of top leaders
instead of affecting everyone by calling bandhs. nepalnews.com
