Darkness Brings Home Fathers
Like a highwayman, when the moon’s a purple glow,
His thought rides in to take me to a land all mellow.
From days of yore he would come to her delight,
Soft gallops in the night, to watch her all right
Seeing the moonbeams surround her couch,
He loosens the knot of his golden pouch,
Out emerge fireflies in glowing arrays,
She’s now all to dream of those halcyon days.
A subtle joy it was, upon his back to pillion ride,
To hear that counterfeit neigh and see him abide,
To feel utterly protected when being done a Boeing,
To persuade for more, till he turns breathless doing.
In wonder, how he reared her up into a little woman,
With a heart to turn to this woman, years later again,
In his words to her, there’s a gold thread that runs,
Fondly his beloved spools, for him a cloth she darns.
‘Darkness brings home fathers’, I heard someone say,
So, I let the stars ripen by as in the radio they play,
“Your beautiful baby from the outside in.
Chase your dreams but always know the road that'll lead you home again.
Go on, take on this whole world.
But to me you know you'll always be, my little girl. . .”
