I am here in a disastrous situation. With all this economy shit and study completed, I have no idea where I am heading to. Returning Nepal is not an option, at least for now.So, what I am going to do is getting married with an american citizen. I have a good american girl friend (not lover) of mine who is trying to help me out by marrying with me just for the sake of my status thing.

Do anyone of you know about this marriage process and applying for citizenship? How long gonna it take and other related stuffs?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

ustadamirkhan Make sure she is ready for the marriage. The process is very easy. For you to get the Work permit it takes about Six months and if you would like the travel to nepal you can do that by applying for travel document which cost you money but you can get it right after you get your work permit. Getting a Green card takes about 1 yrs - 1.5 yrs depending on how many applicant are there and you have to face an interview.

Its the easy and best way to get GC , but be careful i have lots of friends who went through same way . Marrying their American friend , but later their american friend cheated . Asking money before divorce. if that happen then there will be no any choice with you. ...So, if she is really good and then only go for it . Best of luck broo ..

Here's the process ..after you get marrried

After you're married your spouse need to file the following for you ..

I-130

I-485

I-765 and

G-325

with the Citizenship and Immigration Service.  Forms and their instructions are found here....

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/m...

The cost to file will be about $1,300. In about 90 days you'll get a
work permit. you can use the work permit to get a Social Security card ( if you don't have it ).

In about 6 months you'll get yours approval for a Green Card and it will take another 6 months for the card to arrive in the mail.

Don't worry if the F1 expires. As soon as your american friend submits the I-130 and
I-485 you will stay in the US is 100% legal until your approval comes
through. Keep the receipt for filing as proof that the forms have been
submitted.

DO NOT, understand DO NOT  leave the country after you get
married and file the forms. If you leave the country the filing becomes
void and you just wasted $1,300. They won't even let you come back in. you
must stay until you get your approval.

okie good luck sathi .....

Several suggestions posted here is overwhilming yet confusing. Posted by 'Gaulekieto' is even more confusing acting he is perfect. However, forms listed are corrrect. My suggestion is go to competent immigration lawyer. Most of the lawyers' initial consulting fee will be about $100 and will be deduct from total lawyers fee if you decide to work with same lawyer. Important thing is you have some one trusting to mary! Good luck to your marriage.

ustadamirkhan,

You own lottery. Congratulations.

Somebody wanting to get married to you to help you with visa situation is lottery. No commitment required (if you don't want to). Get that marriage done even if you have to borrow money from somebody. You will thank me one day.

Thank you guys for your response.

One more thing, what will be the marriage process? Will the simple paper marriage in the court work?

Also, do i need to stay with her in the same place during the marriage process?

Yes, a simple paper marriage in court will work. No need to a throw a party. You can even do drive through marriage. They have this in Las Vegas.
