Even though things are really bad in Nepal but still new constitution drafting has brought some imporvements like they increased the penalty term for carrying unlicenced  arm weapon to minimum 5 years in jail, they also increased the jail term for guilty against human trafficking (prostitution) to minimum 20 years in prison.

There is one important thing that need to be changed so that inncocent victim dont get killed in minor road mishap due to flaw in our law.

According to Transportation Act 1990, if a vehicle hits a person resulting in the death of the latter, then the driver of that vehicle (or its owner) will have to pay a maximum of Rs 300,000 in compensation and 17,000 in funeral expenses. If the victim is injured, then the vehicle owner has to bear all the medical cost of the victim, sometimes, in the case of critical injury, for his whole life.

due to this bull shit Act innocent people get killed by some thug drivers just to avaoid medical cost. those drivers choose to pay the funeral cost of 17000 rather than bear the entire medical cost. There are many case where the injured victim gets killed as drivers back there vehicle and take the innocent lives

Can we atleast try to bring attention to our lawmakers to make some amendment on Transportation act? you can write to Baburam Bhattarai. www.baburambhattarai.com

You are absolutely right dipulata. These acts and rules which will give very easy escape to drivers and vehicle owners  for killing a person after paying NRs. 17,000 should be amended. But this is only one aspect of the problems related with the transportation in Nepal. Another aspect is related with pedestrain who will never follow traffic signals to cross roads. Even there are several sky bridges built for them to cross the road they will always prefer to cross below that bridge. They will never stop for the light and they will never walk along the side of roads always want to walk in the middle of road. And if they get chance they will start to play badminton or cricket even in normal days (excluding nepal bandhs). I don't know who is responsible or how we can get awareness in people about traffic rules but we need to get it otherwise we can't blame only drivers for whatever going on there. Bike riders and microbus drivers are also responsible for accidents and traffic jams in Nepal. These people don't have patience to wait for their turn. They will be always in rush and they will make delay for everyone. Yet another problem related with this system are the hotels and restaurants where we have to take our food during long route travels. They will always feed us bad food and charge higher. It is clear to everyone that those drivers are getting comission from the restaurant or hotel owners but is there any authority in Nepal who cares about customer's right or public health? There are other several problems regarding this matter but the last one I want to mention here is about the bandhs that local people will organize if any accident will take place in their area. They will be always asking for big amount of money which will be impossible for the driver or the vehicle owner. Moreover in most of the cases the actual vehicle which made accident will be not in the spot. But all other passengers have to pay for other's fault. If they have right to get compensation for whatever happened other passengers also have right to travel to their destination. There should be strict rule against these kinds of obstruction in roads.

Geology Tiger it is true that there are countless issues that needs to be improved.but some of the issues you mentioned also depends on individual by individual basis. we already have standard traffic rules like any developed world but the issue is people are unaware of the rules and there isnt enough manpower to implement them. other issues like people's ethics, corruption, blah blah also comes side by side that will bring the problem you mentioned

But for now lets just focus on this bs Transportation Act of 1990. If we mention all the problems at once Dr. Bhattarai might get frustrated and might never bring this issue to the parliament. I've already emailed Dr. Bhattari. Have you?
